I love my Wildwood, but not very satisfied with Dealership.
I've only been able to do a few. I have been able to tour every brand we carry several times, but recording like this is a huge time investment away from our facility which puts me behind on the "main" role I fill here very, very quickly. We are working on getting Adventure Aaron here on our team trained as someone who can work beside me . He has a great deal of RV and camera experience & should fill the role nicely with a little more practice. It's easy to forget I've been doing this for literally 10 years and have developed a solid level of fluidity about my work that took a long time.
Hi Josh, I've watched this video several times looking to see how they fasten the roof panels down and the reason I'm doing this is because I have a new Salem FSX Toy Hauler as I've stated in a couple of your other videos. By the way keep posting videos I enjoy them. So getting back to the issue I'm having. A couple of weeks ago I took my travel trailer out of storage and to start getting it ready for the New England camping season. I was on my camper roof to install vent cover and I noticed the front roof panel under the membrane has lifted about 2 inches which is a huge concern if I move the camper. I'm in the process dealing with the warranty department and penitently waiting on Forest River to approve the claim. The cost of fixing this issue is roughly around $6,000.00. I have not used my camper once and I understand that these campers are cheaply made and rushed through assembly but Forest River needs to do better.
@@JoshtheRVNerd Thank you, I've been dealing with the claims department and they have been very helpful. It will be going in the shop for repair and hopefully it will be ready for my family's first voyage in May.
Thanks for the great factory tour. I just came across this brand and will most likely seek out a 26Dbud in the next couple of years. There are tons of trailer tours online but it was great to see how they are actually put together. I wish you were closer to California I would definitely visit your dealer. Best Wishes.

Hey, Josh, you're da' man! Thanks so much for the "whole" factory tour; very impressive, IMO. Wildwood will def be on my "short-list"; like the floorplans, but, would have liked seeing some of the features. Guess, I'll have to watch for your "home shop" vids to see those. Overall, am impressed with some of the "extras" ForRiv includes overall, but, may be missing on these Wildwood units. Great show today, Josh. Y'all Be Safe!
Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of buying our first Forest River Pop up and was worried. I've heard that these things are slapped together without regard to QC and care, but your video shows otherwise. I wish I lived in your neck of the woods to be able to purchase from you directly but do appreciate the care you take to inform your customers.
Question Josh: What size studs are those in the sidewalls? SUGGESTION: maybe you could pass along to the factory: Those look like metal ferules they use to run the wires through the wall studs and they would also be used in the top roof sill......they make plastic inserts that fit in those ferules which keeps the wire from rubbing against the metal ferule. Great safety measure. They cost a whole 6 cents at Home Depot. Probably the bulk purchase they would make they would probably get them for half that price :) I saw the nose cap off a Winnebago trailer and they were using the plastic inserts to protect the wiring. Great Vid Josh.....I'm impressed with build quality!
@@JoshtheRVNerd Thanks Josh, they were looking like commercial size 2X4's but always hard to tell in a video. They do look pretty substantial though :)
@@JoshtheRVNerd My guess as a fellow RV/ Trivia/ Construction/ Engineer/Architect/ Nerd like Josh is; WILDWOOD utilizing metal ferrules in the sidewalls is primarily for anti- drill wiring protection from inside or out( from a customer possibly attempting to screw in TV Mounts/ Coat hooks, anything), rather than wire degradation from internal chafing / rubbing routed through frame stud holes. Plastic ferrule wiring protectors would mitigate wire insulation damage caused by chafing during the severe stress of flex during RV motion but not hamper drill intrusion like metal would. Standard residential wood framed construction carpentry code normally specifies metal protection on studs where wiring or plumbing is routed through studs.

Do you think the construction would be the same on puma trailers considering forest river makes puma as well? Possibly want a puma 12fbx and would like to know more about the construction
@josh Great video! Is it safe to assume that Forest River has the same construction processes across all their lines? We have an FSX 178BHSKX and it’s nice seeing the bones of their trailers.
Nice model , lived in my FR Salem same model .wish the bathroom was a little bigger the door can be a pain because you have to close it to get to the sink my only main complaint is I wish it came with the second air conditioning. Other than that has been pretty good.
I would like to know why in the manufacture of trailers, the factories do not use polyurethane foam as thermal insulation, it would be easier to model the bodywork.
Another great video. I enjoy watching them. So informative. I live 10 hours away and seriously want to buy my next rv from you all. Plus I figure that gives me the chance to see Michigan. A couple that I watch was just in Michigan and it looks like an amazing place to visit. Plus why not road trip a brand new camper to find out what you do a don't like about it. So hopefully in a few years I will get to make a road trip to buy my next one and visit you all.
Just got a new one in January before I started seeing your video's. Wouldn't make enough in trade right now to make it worth it. Would probably make just enough selling it out right to pay it off right now. It's a 2019 Gulfstream Ameri-lite 268bh.
Only thing I've seen that I did not like is the wiring going through the fram with nothing protecting the wiring from rubbing on the frame. Thats a great way to have a big problem
Josh, what are your thoughts about the brands that weld the tongue underneath the frame (like this one), vs the Jayco that’s integrated into the frame. The Jayco and a few others as you know are built better by being integrated? Thanks
Josh, thanks for the reply. I know that’s what they said but my gut and head say otherwise. I’ve seen a photo of one welded underneath, and it broke off and collapsed. No way a Jayco frame would/could do that. I really enjoy your videos, helping us decide what to get.
Great vid josh, I was wondering if Haylett have considered carrying the NoBo series and if so would it be possible to get a couple of vids on those? The 10.5 and 10.6 look interesting but there is not a lot of good videos on them.
We have never considered them as we were already well established with the Geo Pros for which NoBo models were intended to compete. I'm absolutely not saying "we just don't feel it's a good product." Rather, just that overall we have found a little more overall value in the Geo Pro series. Adding another similar product wouldn't provide a significant addition to the lineup -- just a little more confusion.
Probably to make room for the drain trap, I would think... Otherwise would have to stick below the belly... I don't know for sure.. But that's my guess
You mean without the white trim? It seems to be a super polarizing thing. I'm really "go with the flow" myself. It never stuck out as a major item to me But that's why we carry so many models!!
I'm very interested in the Wildwood 27RKS. Do they make the same model in the Salem? If so whats the difference? Would you compare them like Chevy and GMC? The same exact thing but one has a nicer interior and cost more?
They're literally the exact same trailer that simply has a different color skin. That's it. Nothing else. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. One isn't better. One doesn't cost more.
Wildwoood FSX models have their own facility, but follow the same processes you see here. Big brands like this usually have more than one production plant. When you hear a brand shares production with another camper brand, then that usually means they're a much smaller and less successful camper
@@JoshtheRVNerd I just bought a FSX 260RT,going to Montana this weekend, for the price point seems to be a good camper, the only thing I may do is spray foam the undercarriage. Enjoy your videos!

TY for watching, Joe! I'm not aware of anything offering disc brakes even as an option right now in the world of trailers. It's super super rare even in fifth wheels. I dont expect to see it enter the world of trailers any time soon on any sort of large scale basis simply due to the significant cost increase required.
After visiting this place would you say there is a difference between Salem and Wildwood ? I am looking to buy a Wildwood fsx 178bhsk and I also saw the Salem version wich is cheaper but the salesman said there was a difference in quality also. Thank you
The skin color and graphic decals are quite literally their only differences. As you see in this video they're built on the same production line by the same people with the same layouts and features/options/materials They're literally the same RV
There is no quality difference between them since they're the same RV. And there's no invoice cost difference between them. From the factory to a dealership they cost the same. I apologize someone attempted to provide you with false information.
Help me out here, I'm confused. I'm looking at buying a Coachmen Freedom Express 248RBS. Is Coachmen subsidiary of Forest River or are they just another line? When I first started looking at the 248, I saw a Forest River label, and got lost.
Coachmen is still coachmen. They just happen to be under Forest River's Banner. This is absolutely no different from Keystone being Keystone, but under the Thor banner.
@@JoshtheRVNerd I’m wondering how they fitting 2inch foam walls and built inside I’ve heard rumors it’s full aluminum and aluminum and wood like the black label
@@jshapiro34 no. Alpha walls are laminated. Not stick built. That’s one of the major differences between them Alpha has never been built without laminated sidewalls
@@JoshtheRVNerd so laminate walls and 2inch foam insulation is all that really sets them apart ? Cause other trailers are using the wider axels for stability and it’s not a 4 seasons camper as I’ve heard the heating capability is a bit limited and I’ve seen them 50 amp but not cut for the 2nd ac which is pretty dumb in my opinion because your automatically down 300$ on a hole to be cut
@@jshapiro34 As far as structural variance it's one of the only major differences Grey Wolf/Cherokee & Alpha Wolf have totally different design teams though. They'll potentially use different furniture or wood tones, but often use many of the same suppliers for things like appliances Where Grey Wolf and "Cherokee" are like brothers the Alpha Wolf is more like a Cousin They're in the family you can see the resemblance if you look but they're still very much an individual

Hi there, new to the RV life and I bought a T241BHXL (Wildwood xLite 28ft -2021). So my Big ? is after watching your fantastic video, what are the black tubes running along the visible perimeter of the underbelly? Now I understand the xLite doesn’t have a forced air underbelly so I am very worried about the water lines freezing. What are these black tubes and what would help someone winter boondock when moving from backcountry ski area in CO/WY/UT to another? I understand skirting is helpful, but if we aren’t living in it, is there something I can do to help the water from freezing up in the fresh water tank, grey and black tanks, respectively when we are using it? Would you happened to know what is the temperature rating of the xLite? I was told by my salesman that this xLite had the winter package... is this correct? Thank you for posting this video and being a great resource!
Those tubes are your propane lines. The water lines are actually hidden inside the flooring so they're not exposed. It's not an enclosed/heated belly, but they're still protected lines. Wildwood puts their propane lines on the top of the frame rails to help keep them shielded from almost all possible road debris. It's really smart and costs nothing. Most RVs do not have a specific "here's the temp you can go to" sort of spec. The MFGs don't test them to that extent. An Xlite is an awesome camper, but made for "normal" spring/summer/fall camping. I apologize you've been misinformed regarding a "Winter package." They offer no such thing on Xlite Wildwoods. For something more demanding skirting, a possible belly heater, window coverings, ceiling vent blocking pillows, and a dehumidifier to remove interior condensation will all be wise investments. Heat tape for a water line (assuming you have access to a water line that isn't shut down for weather) will also be wise.
Haylett RV Reviews, News, & More Thank you for the great information! Is the xlite that much lighter than the same size regular build? Or is it just less expensive or both?
That's actually built ONLY at their northwestern facility and available only regionally. I do not know the specifics of their flooring construction. Logically though -- to form a bubble it HAS to be glued.. else there's nothing to hold the bubble in place. A good service center should be able to bleed that w/o damaging your flooring.
Apologies Lois I'm not sure which RV you're referencing. This video is a factory tour in which multiple models appear along the way If you have a specific model in question (or if you can drop me a minute marker), then I can certainly get you an answer!
I understand the interest, but know it's something I just won't do. There's enough ugly negativity out there. I choose to be industry-positive. There certainly are several brands for which I have very little respect, but I'm not going to go out and attack them.
Good question, Stephen. We cannot. However, we have brands like Catalina, Cherokee, and now the Updated Jay Flights with similar exteriors to the Salem-sister of these Wildwoods. Here's a few links: * Catalina RVs: bit.ly/2K2tYSf * Grey Wolf RVs: bit.ly/33EX81F * Cherokee RVs: bit.ly/33FuXj1
Very impressive tour and fabrication/workmanship, but it would be preferable if they used plywood, rather than OSB on the roof, as plywood is far more water resistant, should leaks develop.
@@JoshtheRVNerd Is a plywood roof vs OSB that much better? As a newbie looking to get the best quality trailer for my money is overwhelming with all the brands out there and how they are constructed. Kind of like aluminum vs wood framing and luan vs azdel and type of roof. What is the best quality bunkhouse you sell for around 30k? @@adambadley9835 In theory? Yes. In practice? I don't believe so. It's not a significant note of decision making on my own personal list with all the knowledge and experience I've gathered/witnessed. Regarding "Best quality bunkhouse around 30k" -- that's such an open ended question that I don't even know where to begin with all the brands we carry. The answer really depends on the specific qualities you're seeking so I'd know what direction to start looking. Best recommendation is to speak with a member of our team at 800-256-5196. @@JoshtheRVNerd Thank you for the reply! I'm really liking what I see with the Wildwoods but concerned on long term reliability with better constructed trailers out there. When I'm ready to engage with you guys I will and in the mean time will continue to educate myself with your awesome videos! I really appreciate the effort and time you put into these videos. Very helpful!
@@adambadley9835 I think that's a good concern for any prospective buyer to have. I think it largely boils down to personal care and intended use. Structurally there's no significant variance here between something like a Jay Flight shown to have a really good track record for longevity I prefer how Jayco and Catalina do their cabinets, but I'm not also not sure it really matters in actual practice. I see OLD used RVs come in all the time with stapled cabinet styles and they hold up just fine It largely boils down to peace of mind I think
This RV was built with a different goal in mind from what an aluminum skeleton would provide. There are advantages to both types of construction as described here: ruclips.net/video/Gt-Sx7ro3VA/видео.html

great tour, and information, I love my 2019 29 QBLE, bought it new, zero issues. I would be hesitant to walk on my slide, just not sure if they weight would cause issues, but nice to see it's constructed just the same.
I also wouldn't make a habit of walking on the slide, but knowing it can handle some weight is nice
My Salem 29vbud just had to be taken back to the factory to fix the floor. It was brand new. Within 6 months the floor was already soft and bouncy.
Exceptionally uncommon on a plywood floor.. Ty for sharing though

Glad you enjoyed it!

Loved this video. Trying to find a same type of tour video on their 5th wheels. Do you have one? Thanks
Thanks for watching! I haven’t yet visited the heritage glen facilities. Hopefully this coming summer
Great tour video! I'm currently having an issue with water damage on my 2 year old Wildwood - Dealership in Anderson, In replaced a seal last year, but have yet to tell me where the leak is, but want 2K to replace the floor - still waiting on info concerning the damage to fireplace cabinet, and why I have to pay for all the damage. I love my Wildwood, but not very satisfied with Dealership.
Josh has a ton of knowledge. Very informative!
Thanks for watching!
Josh,I love these factory walk through videos. They are just awesome. Have you done a video for the Jayco Jayflight plant yet?
I've only been able to do a few. I have been able to tour every brand we carry several times, but recording like this is a huge time investment away from our facility which puts me behind on the "main" role I fill here very, very quickly.
We are working on getting Adventure Aaron here on our team trained as someone who can work beside me . He has a great deal of RV and camera experience & should fill the role nicely with a little more practice. It's easy to forget I've been doing this for literally 10 years and have developed a solid level of fluidity about my work that took a long time.
Thank you Josh!
Fran thank you for sharing this. Sorry to hear your RV has had this result. I hope you're still able to get out this summer

You said they don't use 3/8" plywood anywhere. Yes they do on the roof sheeting! Check it out.
The roof is not plywood
Jayco is nearly the only one to do that
The roof is 3/8”… but OSB
Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of buying our first Forest River Pop up and was worried. I've heard that these things are slapped together without regard to QC and care, but your video shows otherwise. I wish I lived in your neck of the woods to be able to purchase from you directly but do appreciate the care you take to inform your customers.
No problem 👍
I don’t know exactly. We can always verify for you. I don’t want to just venture a guess
Standard residential wood framed construction carpentry code normally specifies metal protection on studs where wiring or plumbing is routed through studs.
looks good how about doing a gray wolf build sometime

Never paid much attention to Wildwood until I saw how incredibly affordable they are compared to other ultralites of similar layout!
It's a brand that has elevated itself *GREATLY* the past few years.
I love this,,what about the windows,,do they open big,or half windows...
Thanks for doing these tour videos. I enjoy seeing them. Do all stick and tin trailers use luan? I was hoping to see some azdel.
Azdel is only used in conventional construction in short periods of material shortage
Do you think the construction would be the same on puma trailers considering forest river makes puma as well? Possibly want a puma 12fbx and would like to know more about the construction
Not identical. Similar general method but each will have some variances
Thanks for the tour!
@josh Great video! Is it safe to assume that Forest River has the same construction processes across all their lines? We have an FSX 178BHSKX and it’s nice seeing the bones of their trailers.
Pretty much yeah. Only SLIGHTLY differences on those
Nice model , lived in my FR Salem same model .wish the bathroom was a little bigger the door can be a pain because you have to close it to get to the sink my only main complaint is I wish it came with the second air conditioning. Other than that has been pretty good.
Which model?

So hopefully in a few years I will get to make a road trip to buy my next one and visit you all.
We're ready when you're ready!
Thanks
I’ve been told by factory engineers who do the integrated frames it’s not functionally any stronger
Nice video. Question the rv shower you said it's rv code for them to be up off the floor. Why? I have always wondered why they are raised up.
I don't know the details. Just know it is.
Probably to make room for the drain trap, I would think... Otherwise would have to stick below the belly... I don't know for sure.. But that's my guess
I like these cushions way better than the 2021 models, i'll be looking to trade or replace the ones coming in our ordered unit.
You mean without the white trim?
It seems to be a super polarizing thing. I'm really "go with the flow" myself. It never stuck out as a major item to me
But that's why we carry so many models!!
Great video!
Are the wildwood toy hauler made at this plant also?
Wildwoood FSX models have their own facility, but follow the same processes you see here. Big brands like this usually have more than one production plant.
When you hear a brand shares production with another camper brand, then that usually means they're a much smaller and less successful camper
@@JoshtheRVNerd I just bought a FSX 260RT,going to Montana this weekend, for the price point seems to be a good camper, the only thing I may do is spray foam the undercarriage. Enjoy your videos!

This was very helpful, thank you!
Great video, as always! Do you know of any travel trailers that offer disc brakes as standard or optional equipment?
As you see in this video they're built on the same production line by the same people with the same layouts and features/options/materials
They're literally the same RV
There is no quality difference between them since they're the same RV.
And there's no invoice cost difference between them. From the factory to a dealership they cost the same.
I apologize someone attempted to provide you with false information.
Alright thanks alot for the information!
We purchased a 2021 29vbud and the salesman said the roof is unwalkable. Is that true?
No. That is not accurate. Fully walkable
I have a 2019 Salem 30kqbss and it doesn’t have an underbelly? Was that an option or was it forgotten?
No yours is correct. They didn’t start doing that until the 2021 models on those

AND THUS THE VERSASLEEPER IS BORN!!

@@jshapiro34 no. Alpha walls are laminated. Not stick built. That’s one of the major differences between them
Alpha has never been built without laminated sidewalls

@@sherylengelhardt6140 Xlite's build/structure is exactly the same as a full Wildwood. The Full Wildwood is just 3" taller & has an enclosed belly.

Toy hauler t251ssxl and the linoleum is bubbling all over. It seems like its not glued. Is this normal??
That's actually built ONLY at their northwestern facility and available only regionally. I do not know the specifics of their flooring construction.
Logically though -- to form a bubble it HAS to be glued.. else there's nothing to hold the bubble in place.
A good service center should be able to bleed that w/o damaging your flooring.

@@JoshtheRVNerd I suppose it says you really know the business inside and out. You're a gem to the industry.
Very impressive tour and fabrication/workmanship, but it would be preferable if they used plywood, rather than OSB on the roof, as plywood is far more water resistant, should leaks develop.
And thankfully we have a source for that via our Jay Flight RVs by Jayco you may review at bit.ly/2Cx8BYe
@@JoshtheRVNerd Is a plywood roof vs OSB that much better? As a newbie looking to get the best quality trailer for my money is overwhelming with all the brands out there and how they are constructed. Regarding "Best quality bunkhouse around 30k" -- that's such an open ended question that I don't even know where to begin with all the brands we carry. The answer really depends on the specific qualities you're seeking so I'd know what direction to start looking.

@@adambadley9835 I think that's a good concern for any prospective buyer to have. I think it largely boils down to personal care and intended use. Structurally there's no significant variance here between something like a Jay Flight shown to have a really good track record for longevity
