      I regret to tell you that this is what is referred to as a MISATTRIBUTION (as in Sinclair Lewis NEVER wrote this)...
      "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."
      "Many variants of this text exist, but the earliest known incident of such a comment appears to be a partial quote from James Waterman Wise, Jr., reported in a 1936 issue of The Christian Century: "...in a recent address here before the liberal John Reed club [Wise] said that Hearst and Coughlin are the two chief exponents of fascism in America. If fascism comes, he added, it will not be identified with any 'shirt' movement, nor with an 'insignia,' but it will probably be 'wrapped up in the American flag and heralded as a plea for liberty and preservation of the constitution.' "
      You seem to be a fairly clever young chap, Mr Cope, so please don't feel completely fooled by this.
      HOWEVER, if you are able to find this quotation in ANY OF SINCLAIR LEWIS' TEXTS I hope that you will reply to this e-msg & let me know where I've gone wrong. There is at least one person on the Internet who values being corrected when the correction is true & appropriate.

    • @dsddala467

      Technology was only the vehicle. One of the biggest reasons Hitler took control was because after Germany was the aggressor in WWI, all the other nations got together and punished Germany through sanctions that hurt everyday people. He blamed the Jews for the suffering of the masses and voila. He had a nation behind him. Sound familiar? The middle class is disappearing in the US and Whites now understand that they cannot achieve the American dream. It's not other nations who are making the population in the US suffer, but our own corporations. Both parties exploit this suffering and blame the other, and poor Whites feel like no one is listening. Trump harnessed this desperation, and pointed fingers at: media, Hispanics or any "others" really, and Democrats. It worked. It empowered the White Supremacists, and they felt seen for the first time when Trump called them "Nice people on both sides" after a White Supremacist gathering in Charlottesville, NC.

      Republicans & their Christian fundamentalist allies worked for decades to defund public education, via cuts, private school vouchers & unregulated charter schools. They’ve inhibited the teaching of critical thought, with enforced standardized testing. They demonize teachers as greedy union members & schools as leftist indoctrination. Teachers, schools & parents can only do so much against this lucrative, organized strategy. Many parents struggle just to keep kids fed & much less teach things they barely remember or weren’t taught. My dad’s a history buff, who taught for years. I now spend a lot of time teaching my kids about history I doubt their teachers have covered enough. We live in California, where schools do a decent job on the good, the bad & the ugly of national & state history, but I’m saddened by how many times what I share is their introduction to something. I’m a stay-at-home mom. I can only imagine how daunting it is for parents who work 40hrs or more per week. I hope they can use of all the online resources I found over the pandemic, especially ones that aren’t normally available. Fortunately, RUclips is always here. Amidst all the junk, there are videos by PBS, Prof Carol Anderson, The History Guy (Lance Geiger) & the Zinn Education Project. My husband is very into STEM, so he does all sorts of impromptu physics & chemistry lessons.

      You know what, Darth ... right after WWII as a side effect of the G.I. Bill, tuition used to be next to nothing. This was after a couple of centuries of universities and colleges were the bastion of just the rich kids. People were often born into a trade or profession and stayed there. There was very little upward mobility. Then right after th war the universities were accessible to the working class and for the first time people had choices...like not going into the parents' tanneries or working in coal mines but instead going to college and becoming doctors, lawyers, publishers, etc.. It's only been since Ronald Reagan that universities' tuitions have doubled and tripled and doubled again so that we're where we are now ...the uni's becoming the bastions of the rich and people getting loans these days spend a large part of their lives paying back predatory student loans.

      I apologize for raining on your party, Mr Roman Clay, but here's what i've discovered...
      "This quote: "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism, since it is the merger of state and corporate power." does not appear in Enciclopedia Italiana 1932, although often cited to this source. It is very likely not an accurate quote. If anyone can find a source, please post the cite here. The quote has been debated and removed from the Wikipedia pages. Best to post it and then point out it is Questionable.--Cberlet 13:08, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)"
      Although it was many years ago when I was a young man, I studied at the University of Bologna for two years. However, perhaps you have a better foundation in Italian history & culture than I. If so, I'd like to learn from your superior knowledge.

    • @rhmayer1
      @rhmayer1 3 года назад +7

      The quote may not be exact but it is generally accepted as historically accurate. Mussolini was asked by a reporter, something like, 'What is this facism you speak of? What is fascism?" And Mussolini, who coined the term facism, replied something like "Fascism is corporatism." Or perhaps something longer and closer to the original commenter's quote. The exact wording isn't really necessarily important. It is clear that historians attribute Mussolini's definition as equating fascism with corporate control of governance and the levers of power and legislation.

    • @rogerforsberg3910
      @rogerforsberg3910 3 года назад +3

      @@rhmayer1 You're correct, Mr Mayer, it is NOT exact -- or even precise. I found this reference to Mussolini MISATTRIBUTIONS after a few minutes of research...
      "This quote [referring to the original erroneous quote above] spread rapidly in the United States after appearing in a column by Molly Ivins (24 November 2002). It is repeated often and sometimes attributed to the "Fascism" entry in the 1932 Enciclopedia Italiana but does not appear there. A vaguely similar statement does appear in Doctrine of Fascism."
      Please note that although I studied in Italy for two years, I"m NOT a native Italian speaker (although one of the nicest compliments I've ever had was from someone who thought that I was Swiss-German because I spoke Italian so well), nor am I an academic. However, it is obvious to me that Mussolini knew that the State needed to be controlling the corporate sector, and not the other way around. If you have a different interpretation, Mr Mayer, I'd be fascinated to learn the basis for your opinion.

      I haven't heard that much of openly QAnon followers in Sweden (yet), but there are a lot of anti-vaxxers here, as well as those who believes in replacement theory or what it's called, that predominantly Muslim people from the Middle East are "replacing" ethnic Swedes (how you could replace people instead of just add through immigration, I don't really know). Those crazy ideas are part of QAnon, I believe. We truly live in crazy times.
      Regarding the neo-fascist movement Malcolm Nance talked about, we only have to look at the shift to the political right that has happened throughout Europe (and the world). In almost all EU countries, right-wing or xenophobic parties are either in government or have sizable chunks of seats in Parliament. In Sweden, a right-wing xenophobic (and I would say misogynistic, homophobic and racist) party called Sweden Democrats currently polls just shy of 20 %, resulting in them being the third biggest party in Parliament, and very close to be the second biggest. They have a real possibility of getting into the government after the election next year. Really scary.

      In Belgium we also have a far right party called Vlaams Belang, which itself has been convicted of racism in the past.
      They turned out to be the largest party in the last poll. But no other party will ever go into alliance with them. Even the nationalist party NVA does not want them and they are the second largest party atm.
      That also ensures that Vlaams Belang never have to account for a policy, so they can further polarize and incite people with their lies and whataboutery. Every single day, over and over again.
      Of course, among them also a lot of anti-vaxxers. Imo not because they are against vaccination or even science, but purely because they are against the government. It's their way of taking revenge.
      Regarding Trump... he didn't make the world racist or fascist, but he has made them feel so comfortable that they no longer have to hide their disgusting xenophobic, racist and fascist ideology.

    • @oliver_twistor
      @oliver_twistor 3 года назад +4

      @@franktielemans6624 Yeah, I bet a lot of our anti-vaxxers in Sweden as well, are just anti-government perhaps rather than being anti-science. I've heard a lot of complaining that the covid passports are "violating human rights, akin to the Star of David for Jews during the German Nazi regime". Comparing a voluntary and completely free of charge vaccination against a deadly disease with the Holocaust is so offensive I have no words for it.
      Sadly, the Sweden Democrats are no longer shunned by the other parties, as they have been before. Now when they have grown so large, the conservative parties have (reluctantly and begrudgingly) joined ranks with them. I guess they think they can control the beast, but as with Frankenstein and his monster, it will likely be that the monster controls Frankenstein. Reading up on Vlaams Belang on Wikipedia, it seems that they have much in common with Sweden Democrats.

      Well, we need to assume that the Biden Administration already has this kind of Intelligence. So now we need to wonder about how they are responding. They can 'lean into' a Civil War and hope for a quick victory on the ground. The Extreme Right doesn't have a unified chain of command and since Jan 6 when they found out that the FEDS were able to listen in on so much of their CHATTER they are now afraid to talk to each other. SO it would now be easy to divide and conquer them, punching out the strongest groups first and going down the line. But it would be tremendously ugly. It would have to be THEIR blood running in the streets because many wouldn't surrender without a battle. It would test our own Police and Military. Many Municipality Police Departments are heavily infiltrated by the Right and so Police Operations could never be Surprise Attacks. Federal Law Enforcement might also be leaky. We know from Jan 6 that we couldn't trust the National Guard... think of the Nuts who think joining the National Guard is a good idea. My point is that the Biden Administration WON'T lean in to a Civil War. They are probably hoping that if they can just keep the lid on until the Infrastructure Plan kicks in and Wages go up that all the Nuts will come out of their deliriums. SO, in regards to your point, about bringing a Black Guy who is so vocally Civil War opening into the Administration, well, no. At most they would use him as a consultant. Remember, the Administration is holding its breath and hoping everything will just go away.

      Yes, Mussolini's Italian Fascism and Hitler's Nazism were Revolutionary Syndicalists who opposed the wealthy and global bankers while promoting critical race theory, national socialism and totalitarian adoption of a new myth (Sorelianism)
      Today, in the US critical race theory is a new identity myth-based form of Syndicalism intended to get young people into the streets to fight for government-run programs. The Anti-FASCISTS are actually the fascists who promote a identity myth-based Syndicalism. They are fighting for national socialist programs and dress in black and brutallyattack people with protection from the state and state propaganda machine. The U.S. is now entering the phase of "turning-in" non-compliers.

      by the Communist Party of Italy delegate."
      The Origin of the Fascist Movement
      "As regards the origins of the Fascist movement, in what we might call the directand external sense, it can be traced back to 1914-1915, namely to the period which preceded Italy’s intervention in the world war. In fact its founding groups, which espoused a range of political tendencies, were precisely the ones which supported this intervention. There was a group on the right, led by Salandra and the big industrialists, which had vested interests in war, and which before clamouring for intervention on the side of the Entente had avidly supported a war against it. Then there were the tendencies of the left wing bourgeoisie: the Italian radicals, i.e., the democrats of the left and the republicans, traditionally in favour of liberating Trieste and Trent."
      "And finally, within the interventionist movement, there were certain elements of the proletarian movement too, namely the revolutionary syndicalists and anarchists. And amongst the latter groups we find (a matter of one individual, true, but nevertheless a very important one) the leader of the left-wing of the socialist party and director of Avanti!: Mussolini."
      Literally, Communists describing Mussolini as being the leader of the LEFT-WING of Socialist party.
      IWW (Industrial Workers of the World) is a Revolutionary Syndicalist labor union. Who are they affiliated with?
      National Lawyers Guild (NLG) is a Revolutionary Syndicalist legal organization. They recruit and train "Legal observers" that wear bright green hats during protests. They provide Antifa with pro-bono legal defense.
      Search Google for "Revolutionary Syndicalist flag"
      Now, Syndicalism is dividing socialists into INDUSTRIAL SYNDICATES to exert more power over the capitalist factory owners. In a post industrial revolution these SYNDICATES become IDENTITY MYTH SYNDICATES as promoted BY Georges Sorel (Sorelianism) author of "Reflections on Violence". Sorel believed it was MYTH that drove people to committ violence in the streets. Hence, Hitler created the MYTH of Aryans and Mussolini created "The New Roman Empire"

If they did this as any of the popular “movements” across the country, they would say it’s empowering and bringing down a unfair system. When people where murdered and their stores torched down, these people cheered them on. Again I don’t agree with them whatsoever but I cannot stand double standards.

    The political and environmental futures are in chaos, both here and abroad.
    Disinformation is rampant, leading some to question the legitimacy of long standing election procedures. The swaying of minds is ongoing through propaganda techniques by a popular media channel. Many realize this danger while unfortunately many more don't.
    And if that wasn't enough, we are on the brink of a global environmental catastrophe which will effect the our children and theirs.
