Thanks for the episode! I agree... After following this case closely for several years, I've come to think that she was most likely abducted. Yes, she was under intense stress and wanted to "run away" for at least a few days -- but it is NOT uncommon for college students to take off for a few days to clear their head, without telling anyone. (I've been a college counselor for years; I see it all the time.)
An intentional long-term disappearance would require considerable planning and money, and would leave some sort of digital footprint. With today's technology and surveillance (as well as in 2004), disappearing of your own accord is extremely difficult. And given the high profile of this case, surely there would have been credible sightings by now.
I think that when her car wiped out on Rte. 112, she panicked and fled the scene to avoid DUI charges. She may have hitchhiked, or she may have knocked on the wrong person's door. Law enforcement may already have a good idea of who abducted Maura, but they can't press charges until they find a body or other compelling forensic evidence.
Maura's packed-up dorm room may suggest an intent to commit suicide, and several factors indicate that she was in crisis and out of control (credit card theft, bulimia, car accidents, alcohol use). She MIGHT have gone to the mountains to commit suicide, or at least contemplate it -- but unless she hitchhiked to another region and then wandered way off into the woods, I think that her body would have been located by now.

I love this podcast but I'm not sure why Aurelia was on here? I've read her blog & I guess she comes across better in her writing than in speaking. Can't say I enjoyed this episode.

Seems like a downhill slide for the podcast since "Showdown In Franconia" which may point to more answers than people realize. Has anyone examined pictures of Maura's buckled car hood alongside video of Liko Kenney's buckled car hood? Also comparing angles of vehicle impact for both?

Just a couple of thoughts, there are two mysteries here. The first one is where is Maura at. The second is why did she leave school like she did. Maybe the third mystery is does the answer to the second question help to answer the first. I don't know.
I spent twenty-one years in the army as an infantryman, unless you have slept outdoors in the cold you don't really have any idea how cold you can get. I mean the water in your canteen freezes solid. There were a couple of times I seriously thought I was going to freeze to death. Nothing but pure misery even if you are equipped for it. If not, death can come quick.

I got the feeling she's a true crime groupie, and they had her on the show in exchange for a tug job at crimecon.

I enjoyed this episode, the email questions and the interview with Aurelia. I thought that she had the no agenda thoughts and opinions on the case that were genuine. As for her public speaking styke, I have empathy for her because I can write ten times better that I can speak in public. Not all of us are wired the same way, so thank you Lance and Tim for having her on your show and giving her a forum. Keep up the great work!!

Yep, she contributed nothing. She has never been to the area. She even has far fetched absurd paranoia about being abducted at any moment. Confirmation bias written all over the place.

FACT: The search dogs led to the driveway of BA (roughly). FACT: There were no footprints leading into the snow for nearly a mile out of crash site. FACT: BA's bus was not searched. FACT: BA went searching for MM. Result: Does anyone think MM did get on the bus? Then, after cops left, she went ?????

Great episode, This is my favourite podcast about the Maura Murray case, I like hearing everyone's thoughts about what they think happened to Maura, I believe she was abducted and murdered and this person did a good job of hiding her body so it will be impossible to find. Not everyone brings up his name but I believe it's Tim Carpenter that's responsible in her murder. I always found him suspicious. There could of been a struggle that night but nobody heard anything or she wasn't thinking right and she just went in his red pick up truck. She could of been intoxicated or drunk and Tim carpenter took advantage of that. That's what I think. I been researching this case for quite awhile now so I gained a lot of knowledge on it. :) I discovered Maura Murray's case when I came across 112dirtbag's videos and that's how I got interested in the Maura Murray case.

I think it's important to remember that Tim and Lance originally set out to create a documentary about the obsession with the Maura Murray case, and True Crime on a broader scale. So to question Auriela's "expertise" to me is not as relevant as acknowledging that she is, as I referenced earlier, one of people out there who has become "obsessed" with the case. The podcast has always meant to explore that mindset alongside their pursuit of the truth.

Agreed, I feel like the listeners of this podcast are more interested in investigative views, and they are trying to solve the case themselves, which is different than what the hosts are trying to do. The hosts are not trying to solve the case as much as trying to highlight the different type of characters that are enthralled with the case that they become arm chair detectives. I think they are trying to get different views regardless of how juvenile, incorrect, or irrational they may seem (they want people that are old, young, from different locations, have different experiences, etc.)

obsessed is a very strong adjective in describing your interest in this case. Probably Mr. Murray and siblings would fall into this category.

Just in cases anyone's wondering, she's certainly not the Aurelia from Love Actually but Lance is certainly gorgeous. Now that we've got that figured out, let's move on to Maura.

I live in the northern nh area and Ive heard a few things about her disappearance. I heard she went to several parties that night and she was doing large amounts of cocaine, which would explain why she withdrew 280 bucks from an ATM. I heard that she didnt know these people very well if at all, and she overdosed on the cocaine she was doing. Once they noticed she was dead they dumped her body somewhere. AGAIN, this is what I HEARD so it doesn't mean its 100% accurate or at all, but if I were one of maura's parents then I would want to hear ANY rumor about her. Although rumors are usually not true, most of the time they are revealing nonetheless.

Yup carrying stuff around is totally normal but wasting perfectly fine birthcontrol isn't. I can't see why she would stop taking them while being sexually active and if it wasn't the right method for you it wouldn't have been smart to stop it in the middle of the cycle. You might say oh she stopped when she found out she was pregnant but there were only four pills missing , so she just had her period and it would have been way to early even for a pregnancy test...Maybe I'm missing something...

I believe if she hadn’t slid off the road or car failed because of the sock in the tailpipe, which would be meant to keep you reasonably close, you would have found her car in the white mountains trailhead parking lot ... she ended her life or walked away from it. Either way the frantic calls from Billy and Billy to her friends suggest she had everyone believing she was about to end it all... if it was orchestrated she must have had one hell of a reason!

Maura ended up getting a ride from a stranger shortly after the accident in my opinion. That person killed her and has done a very good job of hiding the fact he did it and hiding the body. it's sad but it's highly doubtful she's gonna be found. just my opinion in the end and I've listened to all the podcasts.
