In this video, Scott Houston and his guest, Bobby Floyd, show you how to play “Georgia on My Mind” on piano. This is the song made famous by Tony Bennett. Together, they break down the song into first the left hand part. Then Bobby and Scott explain what is being played in the left hand part. Lastly, Bobby Floyd Plays the entire tune “Georgia on My Mind” beginning to end in the key of F.
Bobby demonstrates how to play octaves on piano as he plays “Georgia on My Mind.” He also spells out the chords and the chord substitutions that he used in the tune.
Throughout the video he shares some of his various tips for making the melodic line more interesting. Additionally Bobby explains how to know when and how to switch from solo playing to accompaniment piano playing during the song, which is a hard thing for many players to do well.
Interestingly, Bobby Floyd actually played and toured with Ray Charles in the mid 80’s.

Bobby Floyd just knocks it out of the park with this soulful rendition of Georgia On My Mind. Great musician!
I was smiling all the way through this lesson
When Bobby's hands move so does his (and our) heart. Saw him back in the day when he was Ray Charles' opening act. Hearing Bobby live brought people to tears...a perfect balance between blues, jazz and soul. I don't think he's ever been given the credit he deserves.
There are too many wonderful things in this video to mention. Thank you Bobby for years of AMAZING music and a willingness to share the part of your heart where music like that comes from. And thanks Scott for sharing this.
I was there in the 80's to have seen and heard the genius of Mr Ray Charles and Mr Bobby Floyd.🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I have watched this several times and I still can't get enough. There are no set rules when it comes to playing a musical piece like this. As long as you don't go to far out in left field, I mean to the point nobody can recognize the piece, you will be alright. Mr. Floyd does a great job on this lesson. Thank you so much.
When you look at his face while answering and talking, very cool and smiley, and look at his face when he's playing the song, you have the definition of Music.
4:35 that seriously brought a tear to my eye and chills to my spine. The whole song always gets me that way, of course, but...man.. just, I seriously have no words.
Absolutely amazing! Seen this video hundreds of times, counting :)
Same
literally hundreds...
Same!
Scott, I really appreciate your enthusiasm and the way you appreciate Mr. Floyd's presence and wisdom. You seem like a really great guy.
for those wondering : the first chord substitution he did was D- C-7 F7 Bb instead of simply D- Bb (that's a 2-5-1 with Bb as a 1). He then followed by a Eb7 instead of a B diminished (which frankly i don't know what it is)..
Outstanding Bobby, blew me away. Enjoyed that thanks.
One of the nicest versions I have ever heard, thanks Bobby
Really enjoyed this, thank you for bringing in this incredible artist who was exceptionally generous in sharing his knowledge.
Bobby Floyd was unbelievable!!! I wanted the piano guy to shut his comments down and allow Bobby to play & teach.
mosichat amen
You took the words right out of my mouth. I did learn alot about this song as he was teaching it. When he was talking about those blues scales, man I was writing them down. They will come in handy when I am playing other blues songs. I am also trying to learn how to play my chords in different versions. The more you spread them out the fuller they will sound. Outstanding video.
Always loved this song and boy does he nail it and more .. sheer beauty watching and listening
Bobby Floyd is such an amazing player.
I love to hear him play
I love these kinds of music!... relaxing and feeling of time laps!
Love the gospel flavor in this man's playing.
Mr. Floyd is a master! My favorite pianist.

Now that was some awesome playing! Had me smiling all the way to the end.
Mr Bobby Floyd also played for The Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church , in Columbus, Ohio for years. A stepping stone and a anointed blessing. Anointed by God, no matter what the genre.
Awesome!!!!!! One of my favorite interpretations of this song!
This is how its done!!!! Sweet and Bluesy ...Excellent!!!!

Thanks a lots Sir, you just inspired me to keep learning.
Fantastic.
This song has some of the most beautiful chords I have ever heard in a song. He has probably played this song hundreds of times and not once the same way, that is what makes him great in my book. He puts his heart in soul into every stroke of the keys. I am going to steal some of his secrets he shared with us on this video. Please don't tell him. LoL

After listning and watching Bobby Floyd whom is a very talented pianoist stylist I finally realised the first F chord ,left hand,I cant find in the book plus my hand or fingers arent long enough .Sure wish I could play like him but after hours of watching mainly r-hand my bubbles busted.Jimmy Hendrix had the same advantage
