Thank you for this video. I actually lived on Lynn Rd in my youth and was going to Rootstown HS at the time of this murder. It was so eerie because some of my friends and I used to hang out in these woods all the time and spent so many Summer days fishing on Muzzy Lake.

We were in high school the same time as him and he dated a classmate. She was pretty freaked out to say the least. His house was also across the street from the high school and the high school has since been torn down. Imagine walking and knowing a killer lived across the street from the high school. What's amazing is his idiotic friends didn't take him seriously. They were goofballs if you knew them too.

Rose was my aunt, I don’t remember her as I was just a baby. Such a sad situation all together. And sad that her murderer is out on parole.

I have an article from the Akron Beacon Journal that was more than a full page of details about this incident and the people involved.

My parents knew him and worked at the Woods of Terror. Matt Platt is currently out of prison on parole.

Very scary. Do you happen to know if I was in the right part of the woods by chance?

Info came in the form of news and police blotters in 87. Have you already been to the library that is local to the murder? It should have the news paper on microfiche. Good video!

hello, i cant even imagine where to start, my names Hannah. My mom is Darlene Workman, Rose's sister, Margarat Workman's second daughter at the time. Making Rose my Aunt, obviously. My Aunt's brutal death had lifelong effects on my mom going forward that unfortunately caused us to drift apart rather drastically. Often times, she would confuse me for her, Rose, firmly believing that she had come back reborn for her, as my birthday falls exactly 10 years to the day my Aunt was Murdered. She would tell me I was never to have a social media presence, back when Facebook was the Newest Biggest Platform, and wouldn't say more than "he'll find us! He'll come back to kill you! Matt Platt! He'll come back!". I never got to know her, though from what I've heard from family members--adopted and biological--we would have gotten along amazingly. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for keeping her memory alive! God Bless! And again, thank you!

Wow Hannah. First of all it’s unbelievable that you found and saw this video. I grew up in Rootstown and attended HS there at the time of your aunt’s death. I remember some friends and I were going to trek back through the woods on Lynn Rd on the day she was discovered and the police being everywhere and having the road pretty much shut down. So very sorry for you family’s loss and for your mom’s struggles. So very sad.

@@seanfritz8447 Oh my goodness. First, I am so sorry that this was something that you and your friends and family had to experience and live through while it was still so Fresh (for lack of better term), I hope that you all were able to find any help you may have needed after finding out about what had happened in what had been a Hang-Out Spot. I don't know all that much about my Aunt, those who knew her and what had happened hardly if ever spoke about her or what had happened that night, and unfortunately the one I could go to is my mom---After what she did while me and my older brother were growing up what she knows about those events will stay events only she knows of. I never knew the Darlene that those in 1987 and before, but I can say, from the Darlene I do know, Rose may have been the Intended Victim that night but with her died a Piece of my Mom that never could be recovered. Thank you so much for your kind words, I've been trying to find out as much as I can about my Aunt Rose but my sources of Knowledge are sparse at best, if you or you know of anyone who would be willing to share I would very much Love to get in contact! Thank you again!

I went to school with Darlene and have often wondered how her life turned out. From what you posted it sounds like that it was always a struggle for her. 😢

Hi Hannah, it’s Gabby. Not sure if you remember me or not but I’m Shirley’s daughter, making me your cousin. I’m sorry to hear of you and your mother not having a relationship. I know they endured a lot throughout their life- all of the kids. I’m sure that greatly impacted their mental health. Rose murder was a snapping point for a lot of them. I know when I worked in the Rootstown/ Ravenna area my mom would always freak out and tell me to leave that town out of fear they would think Rose was still alive and try to hurt me. Honestly that freaked me out enough that I don’t really enter either of those areas. I’m glad to see they are trying to bring light to her murder and keep her memory alive, just sad for our family. Hopefully one day you and your mother will be able to have a happy and healthy relationship.
