Julianna, thank you so much for your idea to discuss this very important topic here. And for sharing your results - I have to repeat your video definitely for at least another 50 times. Because it’s worth to listen to your results carefully! Lots of love from Germany, Europe.

Thank you for your beautiful demonstration. I recently bought a couple of Bonade inverted models and was very disappointed with them. They had a tendency to pop off. My friend the late great Bill Klinger was one of Bonade’s last students. You’re a great teacher. God bless you. Bill. Uk

Hi Bill, thanks for your kind words, and thanks for watching! Yes, I love the sound that the inverted Bonade ligature produces, but it really does pop off the mouthpiece easily. Sometimes you can place a piece of scotch tape on the interior part of the ligature and it gives a little more grip while on the mouthpiece. I've also had friends that would take a knife and make grooves on the inside of the ligature to give it more grip, but I'm too scared to try it myself :-) Take care!

Thank you so much for your video. It was really interesting and helpful. I have some of these ligatures, but also a few different mouthpieces, and reeds. Therefore it would be interesting to know which mouthpiece and reed you are using, and also, just to compare with my Yamaha 450, I wonder which clarinet you play on.

Hi @lillianhusbymelien5471, I play on a Pyne Bel Canto mouthpiece and I use Vandoren Traditional 3.5 reeds. Sometimes I play on Vandoren V12 3.5s, but for that video I was playing on the Vandoren Traditional box. My clarinet is the Buffet Tosca greenline model. Let me know which ligatures you prefer with your setup. Thanks for watching!

@@clarinetnotestudio4851 thank you for your answer. I have a d’Addario reserve evolution marble mouthpiece, and use the reserve classic or the Rico Royal reeds. Then I have a Rovner versa ligature. Even if this setup is good, the sound hasn’t been clear enough. After watching your video, I tried the other ligatures, and to my surprise the d’Addario H gold ligature gave a clear and very beautiful sound. So that will be my ligature from now on. 🤗

hey i have a question which plate are you using for the Vandoren Optimum ?

      Hi! Great question!
      vandoren.fr/en/clarinet-ligatures/
I use plate no. 1 because I find it works best with my mouthpiece/reed combination. I feel like I get the most resonate sound/tone with plate no. 1. This is just my opinion, but I found that plate no. 2 made my sound “stuffy”, and plate no. 3 was restrictive. Again, just my opinion with what I experienced on my equipment (I play on a Pyne Bel Canto mouthpiece and Vandoren Traditional & V12 Reeds, 3.5). Thanks again for the question and let me know what you experience if you have that ligature.

I have removed the cork thing of the BG traditional ligature which is in between the rails and It plays better. Though Bonades I think are my favorites, I have a gold non-inverted which is great but I want to try more of them. SS Ishimori is also very interesting to me but I haven't tried. I have the Optimum, does It feel any similar? Has heavier response? I have a Chinese knock-off of the SS Ishimori which is very cheap and definitely not as good.

Hi! I prefer the SS Ishimori to the Optimum. To me the optimum feels heavier in the sense that it clamps the reed down on the mouthpiece. In my opinion, the SS Ishimori has an elegant design that allows the reed to vibrate while staying secure on the mouthpiece. I prefer the Solid Silver over the Rose Gold model, but everyone is different. I had a friend try the gold-plated Ishimori a few weeks ago and absolutely raved about it, but I haven't tried it myself. Maybe you would like the gold-plated model since you play on the gold-plated Bonade? I wish the Ishimori was more affordable because I would own them all, lol! Thanks for the tip about the BG ligature, I will definitely try that!

@@clarinetnotestudio4851Despite I play on gold Bonade, I think I would like the solid silver Ishimori more. As you said, I wish It would be more affordable.
