It's a good idea to put a thin layer of black silicone sealant around where it meets the window and on the open/close hatch on the vent itself. Apply wet with finger and allow to dry before installing the vent. It will help keep drafts out when it's closed.
Also get a fine wire mesh and fit that to stop the smallest insects getting in as the grill only stops larger insects.
Having said all that , I'm not too sure how effective these actually are as I have just unblocked mine which i sealed because of noise .My hydrometer still reads high moisture in the flat , I think they make a small difference and are good to have in the bedroom because the fresh air helps with sleep.
Got these in my new build. 2 in the lounge have bowed and when windy, blows a gale and proper annoying. Going to have to replace or stuff them with something😂
In the nicest possible way, these are total bollox, all they do is let drafts and noise through, I have taped mine up.
To avoid condensation and other negative effects, it's important to consider trickle vents as a way to control the air flow into a property. Your home can be constantly refreshed with the small openings, allowing a steady flow of fresh air. Feel free to let us know if you would like some more information :)
@@AbbeywindowsCoUkltd They do nothing for condensation nor prevent mould
True 👍
@@AbbeywindowsCoUkltd if some would like a fresh air - their is one of the best solutions for it without making unnecessary holes in the windows that only makes your energy bills higher - just OPEN the windows!!
What did you use to tape them up?
Thanks Abbey for the explanation, but I'm still bemused by these things. So much effort has gone into making modern uPVC windows airtight (two compressible rubber gaskets, espag bolts into angled receivers to pull them tight, silicone and cloaking fillet around the outside of the frame, foam between the frame and the wall...) and then they drill a hole right through the frame with no effective way to close it off. Spiders like it though.
Hi Richard, they are a bit like marmite aren't they!
They do serve an important purpose. We've become so good at making our homes more energy efficient, that without trickle vents we risk making them too airtight, which in turn has a negative effect - contributing to condensation and poor air quality. Trickle vents ensure there is a gradual control of air flow into the property.
Best wishes,
Abbey Windows
@@AbbeywindowsCoUkltd so why not just keep my old leaky windows?
@@AbbeywindowsCoUkltd they're not like marmite at all. You either hate them because you have a brain, or like them because you don't have a brain.
@@AbbeywindowsCoUkltd
That’s major BS. Just open the windows a couple of times a day for a few minutes at a time. Then use your double glazed airtight windows without holes in them to do the work they were designed to do: insulate your home from the cold and the noise.
@@AbbeywindowsCoUkltd Agreed with Abbey. I am property maintenance manager. We have experienced a lot of mould issues in the property under our management. Most of those have caused by poor ventilation in which there are too good in airtight of the properties nowadays. We would not see those mould in open area, would we? Those mould issue couldn't be found dozens of years before when the airtightness was not good. It has more serious after the energy price has gone up a lot. Window trickle vent would be a solution, though not only one solution, to mould issue caused by poor ventilation.
Ventilation is important but what happened to old fashioned ventilation when you open and close your windows. These fensa regulators are power hungry individuals and controlling freaks who would never install these trickle vents on their own windows.
How do you clean them. I find them very useful but I feel they need a clean and Im hoping for some tips or advice
It would have been more use to show us how to fit or remove the vents.
The amount of noise I get through these vents is unbearable
I agree who come up with this stupid idea
So a trickle vent is just a draught?
They let bugs in, how do I remove them and plug them up
Why have this when you can just open the window whenever you want and save money and don't give more reasons for spiders to grow in your home.
I know its been 2 years but opening windows definitely wouldnt allow spiders in your home.
@@doovybro9000 I know your being sarcastic, but when spiders don't find food after a while they tend to evacuate the area, and they prefer windows where flys come in, this is why you see webs near your window. Of course you let them in if you open the window, but if you got spiders already, and have windows closed, where is their exit?
You could use traps, but a window thats slightly closed I mean its shut but it's enough to allow micro particles of air in the house, that is enough, there's no need for this rubbish to be installed. All it does is allow noise from outside, now there's no point in double glazing if you destroy the noise cancellation with this mechanic in the video.
I get a considerable amount of condensation even with the vents open leading to black mold. What would you recommend?
A dehumidifier
Call Abbey and say - oh happy days
Invest in a positive input ventilation unit (PIV). Should do the job.
Consider a PIV unit, ideal if you have a loft, they are highly recommended, check the various main selling websites for customer reviews.
@@RiderReview😂😂😂
Why did you put “sound” in the title?
I think this is the edit that has sound... Happy days... Lol
theyre too noisy im clogging ours
Trickle are a lousy idea. Even when closed, they allow your warm air to escape in the winter and increase external noise considerably.
Can spiders get in through these?
Not good cause cold drafts abs noise even when closed ... drop in house temperature of 1.5 degrees because of this
Most modern windows are completely draught-free, which means it can be impossible for fresh air to flow into your home. This means you could suffer from problems like condensation. Trickle vents work to avoid this, keeping your home full of fresh air even with your windows closed.
Let them open in winter? Lol
They creek ? 😂
Useless video...
Maybe you should try offer some kind of information as why these are always blocked and filling up with condensation??
My pipe always leaks 🙄
Gormless invention, even when they are closed they piss all external sound through, i ended up stuffing all mine with bubble foam and rock wool to reduce noise, i just open them periodically to air the room, not a sign of any damp or mould, total overkill, my new build has 2 of these bastards per window , so about 30 in total
You can stuff them with foam pads for washing up too. The white ones from eBay are ideal. Soaks up noise and drafts.
Makes sense on an old house though where you need the draft
@@elobiretv Really doesn't , these do nothing whatsoever , for fresh air open the window for a short time , these claim to prevent condensation + mould but do they shite , you could have 5 of these on a window and you will still get condensation
great more excuses for small spiders and fly's to hide in your home
THEY LET IN SO MUCH OUTSIDE NOISES, CHEM TRAILS SHALL SEAP THROUGH HOMES NOW. ALL PART OF THE SCHEME LIKE 🐀
If there are chem trails. (There arent, thats nuts), then having trickle vents is the least of your problems. Your house isnt air tight, and I bet even you go outside once in a while when you arent listening to infowars.
