I did it 6 maybe 7 times. We were figuring out how much I should travel...it had to be 3 feet only and under 5 seconds. I may have missed one
you should pin this message, derps are being quite ignorant here. nice effort imo. a strike with the blunt side could have been video-edited out... so derps still don't appreciate honesty... -.-
WTF... Did she just slash the katana backwards lol
It's because Kenshin Himura is her master. ;)
+Aurélio Magno Cunha not
Too bad cause I have a lot.
try to throw a sword just like her and avoid rotation of it ;)
Could do that blindfolded. Looks impressive to the untrained but Hyun does make a good point. Backwards slash like that only makes sense if it had been a sakabato sword.
More like a light replica. The real deal weighs a ton to most people.
And it more tumbeling and spinning. Throwing comes into play when you have friends telling you swords have no range versus guns. ;-)
why do I have that song in my mind: "cut my life into pieces This is my last resort Suffocation, no breathing..."
Magnificent. The motion and form alone make this worth watching. Well done.
cool video, nice stunt work,
0:40 it is well known that reversed blade do the most damage.
Only the DAMAGED use the sword that way...
I miss the original music.
Thats amazing!
This is so kewl. It gave me some ideas to work on for my fire Katana performance.
stella you are a badass...you need to be SPIRAL in the next XMEN film!!!
Well.....safe to say Im in Love!!! lol Amazing skills!!
that was awesome!
But can she cook?
She can definitely chop.
Quite the opposite, considering how she holds the sword.
wow real kill bill
This is so awesome
Nice end to a RUclips adventure :)
Nice video and tricks! but last slice is failed. Wrong side on the blade, this will cut nothing like that :)
This is called the "reverse blade sword technique". Himura Kenshin, anyone?!
Oosakachan06 wasnt his blade reverse sharpened though? sharp on whats supposed to be the blunt side and blunt on whats supposed to be sharp
based on how she catch the katana before she did the last slice she SHOULD face it wrong side. So there is no fail, it's planed
L0n3w0lF I saw this video some years ago and a comment said it's called a non lethal strike.using the back edge of a blade is still gonna hurt.
She's hot thats all that matters.
really
not realy
Those of you who are claiming that she struck with the blunt end, you are wrong.
The art she is performing is Ninjutsu. Ninjutsu is all about escape, evasion, and deception. Back in the day, some Ninja (Ninjutsu practitioners) would have katana swords that were sharpened on the inner curve, rather than the other, so that when their opponent saw them holding their swords backwards, they would think they are foolish and would underestimate them. In reality, they weren't holding it backwards, they just sharpened it on the opposite side to deceive their opponent.
+NaughtyNickers Actually you dont need a sharp sharp blade to sever a limb. BFT Enough Blunt Force Trauma will do it.
"Those of you who are claiming that she struck with the blunt end, you are wrong."
No, they're right. That's the not-sharp side. Although technically that sword isn't sharp on any side, because she's a stunt woman and not an idiot, and is thus not going to do stunts like this with a sharp sword.
"The art she is performing is Ninjutsu."
No, she's not performing any martial art. She's twirling and throwing a sword around because it's flashy and looks cool. No martial art does that because it's dumb and pointless and would be incredibly dangerous (to yourself) to do with a real weapon. Even kung fu sword twirls are done in a way where it's nearly impossible to cut yourself, and Japanese sword arts have tons of safeguards built into their moves to prevent self-injury. Throwing a sharp weapon and then catching it is not a part of any martial art. She caught the sword backwards, it was a 50-50 shot, that's all that happened.
"Back in the day, some Ninja (Ninjutsu practitioners) would have katana swords that were sharpened on the inner curve, rather than the other, so that when their opponent saw them holding their swords backwards, they would think they are foolish and would underestimate them."
That's absolutely idiotic and untrue, which is why you can't name a single actual martial art that did this or point out an example of a genuine antique sword made that way. Sword systems from that time period, like Yagyu Shinkage Ryu (the word "kage" in there literally means "shadow", in case you're wondering if it's a "ninja" art), still exist today with unbroken lineage. None of those systems have special "reverse edge" swords or reverse-edge techniques. They all just use regular swords line everyone else.
Aside from that, how fucking stupid are you? Do special forces soldiers fire trick rifles where the bullet comes out the back of the barrel so it looks like they're holding the gun backwards? No. That's fucking retarded, nobody would ever make a weapon like that.
TL;DR: Shut the fuck up and take out the garbage before your mom gets mad at you. You have no idea what you're talking about.
Mister Guy The fact that you took so much time to write an entire essay about what I had to say, and then decided to show off your passive aggression, pleases me very much. I love how I affected your life that much.
P.S. all that time went to waste because I didn't even read 90% of that
VERY NICE WORK

I need to find a chick like this.
Didn't your mother tell you to not degrade women by calling them a 'chick'?? If no,I feel sorry.. atleast teach your children
incredible tosses. amazing.
wau super terrific performance ;)
Thank you.
this is the most bad-assed thing i seen on u choobe in weeks!
Amazing
Thats just awesome
beautiful !
oh Stella i've been thinkin about you for months and could not remember your name!! XD
Very impressive reflexes Stella.
nice..good control i like it.wish i can train with you one day. regarts and respects :-)
Total mastery, total elegance. wow.
OUTSTANDING! (15 September 2022)
reversed strike at the end kinda killed it alittle, awesome behind the back flip grab thing though, look really wicked :D!
lol that was dope.
I love seeing people say they know what "martial arts" is. They take one look at someone's mastery and say it is or isn't "martial arts". There's a saying friend, "Anyone can have Kung Fu, the poet who paints pictures with words that are so beautiful it makes emperors weep, or the butcher who cuts meat with such skill his knife never cuts bone. True mastery in martial arts is within what we do in mastering our combat technique as well as our lives." I know this well because I'M a martial artist.
0:42 I love how the katana is on the other side.
Very nice still to watch...
for whom "noticed" she is slashing backwards;
Slashing with the backside means something like "Come back when you can handle me" or something like that. so she did that on purpose...
I would give this 100 thumbs up if I could. I stopped the video because I was laughing too hard at this point.
Ow! You've smacked me really hard with the blunt edge of the blade! That smarts!
super slow motion with SUPER SPECIAL EFFECT! XD
haha cool! i'm not the only one who noticed xD
To those of you who mentioned the sharp side's up on that last stroke - well, back up and watch the sword land in her hand. Well, actually she kind of meets it mid air, allows it to her hand then delicately adjusts her grip before fully grasping it. absolute. total. control. The sharp side's up because she wanted it up - for whatever reason.
To all the critics: It's better than you can do!
Well spotted! I guess that was the healing cut. :-)
Ok, I get you now. Makes sense too, because if, say, the blade is hit half way along it's length, the tip not only produces a bending force at the point of impact, but also torque through twisting as the tip is above the point of contact, not in line with it. Your comment also explains why one katana we used to use looked more like a screw, as one user hit it on a tree branch with a loose grip and it hit on the side, causing the blade to twist. My apologies for questioning your wisdom. :-)
so glad i'm not the only one that noticed that backward slash
She was just giving an example of a strike where you don't kill your opponent but kill his hopes and pride :)
nice!!
awesome
The quality of layered steel in traditional Japanese swords was the finest in the world, even by modern standards.
incredible
Music is awesome.
Wait guys look at frame 0:40 she pays very close attention to hilt and blade face location look at her eyes she does in fact catch the weapon properly for an edge swipe. Some editing is done here and the last swipe the weapon has changed it's direction for some reason. Looks like an editing continuity error at she had it right. Maybe the last swipe was some kind of backside blade non lethal blow demonstration that was simply missed by the editor thus making it appear like she botched the catch.
It's called the mune and yes, you can block with the back of the blade, it won't dull the edge for the follow up cut.
I don't care what she's selling, I'm buying.
Great moves, She has skill.
For all of you complaining about her swinging the sword at the end with the blade facing the wrong way, you're completely missing the point. The point is there's an uber fit hottie twirling a Samarai sword!!! I mean c'mon!!!!
0:41 katana is ready for normal slice
+Vlad Men Actually, not... Her wrist is also twisted :)
Says every person who ever taught Japanese swordsmanship. This is basically the equivalent of spinning and tossing a cocked revolver.
very cool, I'd love to do some techniques at full speed and watch them broken down in this high speed camera action.....make for great tutorial videos.
Exactly. This has now been added my list with to bears, zombies, and killer robots.
My thoughts exactly!
Sweet man
lmao cutting with the edge facing you
Много си готина стела.... ;) продължавай същия дух :)
i was exactly gonna type that in.....didnt know everyone else noticed it...
craxy!
Even tough the last slash is done with the dull side of the sword!
MVHH
the backside of the blade was commonly used to bash the enemy during the japanese war. to avoid dulling the blade cutting well protected armor or if the blade is cover by blood, the back of the blade was often used in combat. during a duel, using the back edge of the sword could also means the dueler is humiliating his opponent.
Amazing ,and for the comments about the blade wrong way ,a person would be lucky to get the last strike backward ,still knock you out,Awesome
hahahahahahaahahahahahaah, i forgot about that till now.
damn thought i was the only one who noticed ;)
Information is a very fluid thing.
I want both!
Yet entertaining. :)
Slice down with the edge upwards always makes me laugh :D
hahahaha nice blunt side cut!! LOL
LOOL! The katana was faced wrong at the end!
It's not cutting with the wrong edge. That part of the sword is made to hit the enemy, not cut him. And it's a sign of humiliation to the opponent.
Sorry if I made some mistakes (I'm spanish)
Bravo Stella
0.56 seconds movie for 4 seconds stunt - i don't care if it's the wrong side. thumps up.
That's a great video! :) Though, mebbe it's a trick of the camera, but it looked like that final stroke was done.....with the edge of the blade facing the wrong way :) I still love the video though!!
wonderful

you beat me to it =p
i noticed that too ;)
why everything in slow mo is so badass?
Wow!
Nobody says it is a practical technique. What I mean is that I am pretty sure it was on purpose. She even looks at the blade while catching it, not to mention that one can feel which way the blade is facing.
guess this is to show her good hand to eye coordination, nobody stated she is an expert in handling the katana or anything similar, just a world gymnast champion doing a "test shoot"
she is the ultimate sandwhich maker
A kata is not performed for show, it's to teach muscle memory, at least that is if you are going to any decent dojo. That's why when you study a decent martial art you have both real world practice (sparring, ground fighting, grappling, etc...) and form training (kata, repetition of motion, slow motion drilling, etc...) in addition to all the physical training involved.
But I agree with you, this is awesome and is being performed by a stunt-person, not a ninja and doesn't have to be effective.
Plz share your great knowledge and tell us when its good to fight/hit with the backside of a sword??? Im lookin forward to hear from you.
only if you assume that it was suppose to be the other way around. Many times the back of the katana was used to block or parry an attackers blade. You can also strike with it upside down to sever the arteries in the armpits.
Michael, the samurai used the back of the blade to block or parry blows from their opponent. This way, the sharp blade of the katana was preserved and stayed razor sharp for a powerful strike.
Most of the people going "this isn't real swordplay" blah blah, it's not SUPPOSED to be. It's for show & form, & for that it is amazing. I wonder if most of you realize that 90% of all martial arts are only FORM & not for real fighting? No one performs a kata during a real fight. The enemy doesn't match you strike for strike like in martial arts movies. All that stuff is stunt fighting for visual enjoyment & hardly has real application. In a real fight there are a few basic strikes & it's over.
This is SO easy! I know a guy here on youtube that would put her to shame! His name is FPNinja, he does katana tricking as well! I'm a personal friend of his and I've seen him practice. He uses a real katana as well! His video is called So-mo katana or something
It's not hard to do it, hold my beer.
There were many samurai that carried reversed katanas or double edged katanas. So hers may very well be sharp on both sides.
she is perfect!
I've been looking for a version of this video I saw around.. 2012
it had a yellow filter and this killer techno music that I've been looking for
if anyone remembers the artist, pls comment
I'm lucky enough to have found this video by searching katana girl slow motion lol
