#askgmbntech I am looking to replace my old brakes and have them internally routed to my frame. With my new brakes they come pre bled and I am looking to route them however I don’t want to have to bleed them after installation. Is there any way to do this? and how should I route them and cut the hoses to length? I am replacing SRAM level brakes with magura mt5. Please help and I love the Chanel.
It looks nice but I hope this means we can get Shimano 1x12 in cheaper bikes instead of bike with SLX this year having Deore next year at the same price point.
Nah mate, it's now NX on 4K€ bikes. Yippy. Even GX is flexy crap in the rear derailleur. I'll burn through my GX setup and update the cassette, chain and derailleur to 001. Keep the GX cranks only. Budget should remain on budget bikes. NX and Deore should only be on entry level rides. Heck - I might go XT if the swap out isn't too much. Kudos to Shimano for what they are bringing to the table though - SRAM - up your game.
@@pierrebroccoli.9396 was always wondering why my nx doesnt shift that well think just changing that out for a higher quality derailleur would be good enough?
@@pierrebroccoli.9396 Well to be fair they didn't need to up it since there was no competition in 12 speed until now, SRAM was the first to trickle down 5 levels so they basically could do whatever they wanted until they had real competition. I'm hoping a response from SRAM, an updated revision on Eagle with slight improvements could put them on par or even ahead again, we will have to wait and see.
This is hands down my favourite MTB groupset. Not only does it offer almost identical performance to the higher end Shimano groupsets, but its full cross compatibility with those groupsets means that you can upgrade any part down the line; handy for if you really want the XT double upshifter or stiffer XTR crank.
My 2018 Norco Sight A3 came out with deore single piston brake and I just upgraded the front to 203mm rotor and the stopping power was unbelievable for a budget brake. I have the new 4 pot system waiting to go on when I get my bike back. Simply good for what you get on a cheap budget.
@@carlodominiclu2609 I have SX and it has been a pain in the ass, I've had to change the derraileaur twice under warranty, absolute junk as someone said
i have a 2015 deore drivetrain on 1x10 setup and im still using it until now on my aggressive hardtail. i used to ride a lot of trail and enduro but i never had any problems with it. thank you GMBN Tech for sharing this!
Doddy looks much younger with his beard :) also yeah, shimano really won the 12-speed category for me. Been riding the GX eagle and the new XT groupset for a while and shimano just works and looks way better. Especially Hyperglide+ is so worth it, as you can shift whenever you want to! Having a even cheaper option than slx makes spareparts down the line even more accessible for everyone. Great work Shimano!
that was awesome... Shimano never cease to amaze..super blown by the finnish of the components..and never really liked the xtr design on the cranks, prefered the deore and slx ones.. but this is just on another level... truly amazed..lost for words...!!!!
I bought a new bike 2 weeks ago for £1100 with SRAM SX, NX Eagle. Already changed for new Deore hydraulic brakes with 4 pistons. And today ordered rest of the Deore components. My previous bike was fully loaded with Deore XT from years ago. So this time I don’t want to overspend. I am a casual trail rider, so for me this groupset will be more than enough. And quality is on a high level.
I am so happy that companies are now designing cheaper and more durable stuff so even if you do not have a lot of money you could still get, for example, a good and durable 1x12 drive train
Well I'm very new to ALL of this and your vids sold me. I just ordered an M5100 1x 11/52 Groupset (minus brakes) for my (go ahead and laugh) 2003 (?) Trek 820. I know it's overkill for that bike and that I use it mainly for commuter duties and VERY light trails but your video made me do it. Thanks Gents! Your shows have cleared up a lot for me. BTW, TREK tech support and Shimano USA bike tech support were awesome in helping me understand and selecting to best choice variables.
I've seen the pinkbike and vital MTB videos on this system too. Gmbn tech is by far the best quality and most informative mtb tech channel. I love Pinkbike a ton but when I want info only gmbn/gmbn tech delivers this well.
Shimano rocks.....waited all the time till they bring it....didn't knew they do it but was pretty confident all the time. Had them all.....from 600th deore over 780/980 6000/9000 to the 7100/7120 slx.....just great.....all of them.
This crankset is amazing!! And more importantly, the interchangeable components SLX, XT and XTR with DEORE will make a perfect group to work. Crankset, chain, brake and cassete DEORE, with rear derailleur and shifter XT/XTR will works perfectly on bike, without a very high price!!! Nice!!!
Deore level Shimano is something I expect to just work under every condition. Provided you set them up probably, that is. I might get the XT shifter for the multi release, though. I'm still not comfortable on one by drivetrains. I've always enjoyed wiggling the two way release to quickly shift, I hope the Deore lever makes that possible with my hands.
The original hyperglide has upshift ramps as well, the hg+ ones are just a bit easier to catch. The original hg ones take some particularly precise gear setup and even then often only work under heavier loads. With lighter pedaling the chain tends to jump before it gets to the proper ramp.
Fantastic to see more affordable group sets coming to the market. Was hoping the deore cassette would have the old shimano free hub fitting like NX does.
love the vid! i just hope that this comes in a built bike as soon as this quarantine ends. Pretty excited on buying my very first MTB! Keeps up the great vid Doddy!
Hopefully this will be everywhere on full builds. Shimano have always done decent budget level drivetrains unlike SRAM. I have heard so many stories of SX and GX drivetrains being unreliable on new bikes from riding mates and the LBS that if I bought a new bike with them on I'd factor in swapping it out for Deore straight away.
I don't care how they look - I care about how they function, and I'm waiting to hear about how they actually function...please do a video on how they function, i.e. how do they compare to the SLX and XT - is it worth spending more?
Ooohhh, nice black aggressive aluminum hardtail frame, 64 degree head angle for 150mm forks, and I always thought the Ragley emblem is dope. The purple on the complete bike is hot too though. (edit: and 500 bucks cheaper than the nukeproof scout comp...)
After using the deore from shimano for quite a while, now I seemingly lost the curiousity and interest to the higher end ones.. Im satisfied with this masterpiece.

When you're back on the steep climbs, unbolt the 8 screws and hello 32t chainring again. Unfortunatelly Shimano dont see things that way.
now this is nice. Broke a 10 spd Deore before which I replaced with a Zee. Didn't expect Deore to have a straight up 12 spd. I thought they'll just release an 11 spd for Deore. I'll probably pair this with a Sun Race cassette since I don't have a micro spline hub.
Shimano really do know what to do ,what an awesome bit of kit. I take it you get the Deore 1at then gradually replace with the higher spec component by component Doddy? Great video GMBN Tech 👍👊

How much upshift can you make with Deore (and SLX) compared to XT? As my current knowledge, my XT (11s) can upshift 2 gears, but SLX cannot, how about the new and 12s shifter?
What do you think of the new groupset?
Not bad, but not beautiful..
