To clarify on this video since updates were made afterwards - spoilers are now required on all downforce vehicles. They will improve performance but to a lesser extent than they would on a non-downforce vehicle. The Itali GTB Custom is still slower than the regular Itali GTB though.
Huha I know it's pretty common in that community, I'm just saying that it'd be nice if others were like that, obviously not possible with the kids that push you around and such
I m gonna do a TL;DW for those who are not really into this stuff and keep asking the same questions every time : Itali GTB Custom has the downforce stat set too low for it to be more efective all-round compared to the normal Itali GTB which gets a spoiler upgrade . The "traction" increase in high speed corners given by the downforce stat is not enough to make up the time you lose in low speed corners where the benefit of a spoiler would be more efective. PLEASE watch the video as Broughy explains this in-depth really well.
This is a prime example of why you're such a great gta youtuber as opposed to everyone else Detailed examples and comparisons with file-specific values for the sake of the most perfect information possible to educate our spending
Without the traction bonus of the spoiler, the 'downforce only' cars should technically be easier to induce into a slight drift... and therefore would be faster if driven correctly. kappa
Broughy1322 Your videos are very good and informative.I hate how when somebody says GTA community they instantly think of MrbossFTW or LispyJimmy and not the actual community of people like you and CCC in racing and Thefrieghttrain or Nick van Dutch when it comes to money making methods ect ect...
10:05 Now that's proper sportsmanship, waiting for the guy to recover instead of overtaking him by ramming him off. GTA Online needs more racers like you.
Star Scream there was a comment in the sports lap time video where someone said that they use drifting in a massacro as a way to beat elegies and win races
Star Scream A guy said on fastest sports cars video that no one, even Broughy, knew how to use the Massacro properly, and said that it is actually quicker than the elegy, but had to use a slightly drifting technique...
this is the cleanest GTA V racing I've ever seen. Even when you accidentally spun the first place guy out, you let him recover and continued the race in a respectful manner. great vid man as always :)
Broughy, you're a genius! The information in this video was easy to understand and you even answered my question about the situation with the stock Nero / Nero Custom although the video wasn't even about it in the first place. Please keep doing these videos sir, they're like a lighthouse in the giant mud puddle that is RUclips nowadays.
In my own anecdotal experience, I find the Itali GTB and Specter very competitive in really high speed stunt races. In fact, they are becoming my go to cars for crazier wall climbing races. I think there is some added value in the down force when you are flying through the air a lot. It gets you back down on the track and in control faster.
And I am referring the the custom versions above. In Green Machine in particular, It seems like the Itali tends to fly ahead other cars coming out of all the tunnels with sharp twists.
Fascinating, cheers Broughy. I had time away from GTA, but now I am coming back I need to know how out of date my racing garage is! Also congrats on not choking this time ;)
Long story short: - Spoilers add a fixed amount of traction, regardless of speed - Downforce adds increasing amounts of traction with more speed. No speed = no extra traction
Maybe something to add for other video's like this to make things even clearer: Just like in your laptime-testing thumbnails there is the track layout in the bottom right. You put this outline twice on the screen, one for the downforce cars, and one for the spoiler cars (it should be the same outline to show the different strengths and weaknesses). Then for the downforce cars you highlight every corner that gets the benefit for having a downforce mechanic green and mark everything red where the downforce doesn't really help. E.G. high speed corners = green, hairpins = red. You do the same for the spoiler cars. Mark everything green to reflect parts where the car benefits from having a spoiler and mark everything red where the car is badly influenced by a spoiler. I hope this makes sense and I really hope you understand this, lol.
They should increase the amount of downforce on the italia gtb to 3 so that it's faster than the normal italia gtb because what's the point of buy the custom version of it if it is slower than the normal version.
On stunt tracks and rockstar tracks in general, there are more high speed corners making the downforce more effective. However on well made community tracks, there are more low speed corners making the spoiler traction more effective.
If feel like broughy deserves a lot more subs for all the time and effort to make these vids that are so useful to us people that actually watch him. Anyways great job on the vids👍 Keep it up!
:D you should make a "spin off" video where the spoiler does affect the Traction like the regular version of each car and see where they would have placed if the downforce functionality wasn't a thing. You can just delete the Full downforce line in the handling file, and when you go to LS and add the spoiler, then you will see that the spoiler traction bar increases. it works with all the "Downforce affected cars" and also the downforce line can be added to non spoiler cars and see how they would handle with downforce values :D. i can say the custom versions feel a lot better to drive with the spoiler effect, specially the comet retro. :P
Funneh thing: It's not even the spoiler who adds traktion, it's the spoiler-UPDATE. Some cars have a spoiler as default and u get a performance upgrade when u REMOVE the spoiler, bescause it's a spoiler-update. :D
Meanwhile they introduce the downforce thing in the cunning stunts update. Magically it is applied the same time the spoiler effect is for the RE-7B , Tyrus, and ETR1. Hmmm weird they "bug out" when they add it only for those 3 especially when they costed over $2 million each. Bet they did it on purpose to get people to buy those 3 cars. Also weird how the next update they fixed the "bug" and made the cars slow.
Take2 are a bunch of slimy, greedy corporate arses but this is a little too far into the silly conspiracy theory terriftory. Rockstar are just utterly incompetent. This is the same company that managed to somehow make aiming speed inversely proportional to framerate, somehow managed to make a typo with the Casco's brake lights that causes one to be permanantly on and still not have fixed it. The same company that put out an LAPV that was nearly RWD due to a typo in the handling data and as a result wasn't very good offroad and then put out another offroader with the exact same issue that has yet to be fixed. Hell, if we want to go really far back, the same company that managed to screw up an FPS cap in GTA San Andreas so that it capped the game to 25fps instead of 30, not to mention all the things that broke once you turned the cap off.
You better be sleeping dammit! I'm pretty wrecked from the 20 hours I watched yesterday, so you must be worse off. In any case though, great video as always, it's really nice to have a source to point people to when they ask about this, which they do, a lot, thanks :)
Nowadays the existence of cars like Krieger and Emerus, which get both insane downforce and mechanical grip from spoilers, we see a return to 57 second lap times. But you can't see the traction bars in Los Santos Customs because they're already full straight off Legendary Motorsport lul
Thanks for the explanation. I definitely understand down-force a bit better now. Hope to see the next updated track and high speed testing videos soon. Is muscle class next?
This vid reminds me when i was racing my friends with a stock comet and they werent cornering well and i was winning the whole time. And my friend couldnt control the car so he was blaming it the whole time because he was taking the corner too hard and spinning out.
I feel like you could have referenced the fact that you're using the italy GTB, and the person you take 1st place of, is using a custom version of the same car. I don't think you noticed that in this video, but you did mention it in the stream that you got this clip from. I feel like that bit of information adds to the background video. tho I may have not heard, if you did mention this fact, but I'm pretty sure that you didn't mention it in the video. Other than that, great video, keep up the good work ^_^
for people that are casually watching the videos, maybe with something else on another screen (which is usually how I watch youtube) it doesn't stand out that much. I only knew because I watched the stream this part came from ^_^ love your content, keep it up! ^_^
a good way to test the downforce should be to create a track that is just a looooooooong corner (circle) that is taken at high speed. say that you create 2-3 different tracks with varying sizes. to really see where each car benefits the most. Also the top speed tests would also be more precise with a stuntprops track (flat and long). btw will you test the glitched topspeeds of for example the rapid gt, or the comets. etc. etc.
Thanks for explaining the difference. this proves my point I made on another video however. There are road cars and there are track cars in real life and they don't always perform well on the others playground with a few exceptions like the T20. Seems R* is attempting to bring that dynamic into the game. The Itali GTB Custom is obviously a track car and if we consider that the tracks in question which are the R* created stunt races that's where a car like the Itali Custom will shine because most of those races when using these cars you need to do little braking and you tend to mostly stay at top speed throughout the whole race or at least for extended periods of time. I've noticed that most of the racing you do is on normal roads where cars like the reg Itali GTB shine because it's extra grippy and that tends to work better on regular roads. I'm not slamming you for this but simply trying to shed some light on this since other RUclipsrs have used this video to say that the custom variant is not as good but in my tests of the two cars I've found that it has to do with what kind of track you're using. Also, the track prices that R* uses seem to have a grip to them which changes the way the cars handle on them dramatically which is why most of my best lap times in the stunt races are on the T20 because the grippy nature of the track reduces the only liability that that car has which is it's slipperyness. I definitely appreciate your info because I understand the dynamics at work now but you might want to mention these things to others and maybe test them out for yourself
Make a racing class, put the Cunning Stunts cars in there, and some new ones (Audi R18, F1 cars), and a DTM class, then bring on the sports custom cars that are faster than Sports.
I get the realism aspect, but it's stupid that we have to choose between performance and more customization options, sure, give the cars like the re7b ,tyrus, etc downforce but either let spoilers benefit the customs, and have barely any downforce, or let them benefit from spoilers and have no downforce
Thanks for the detailed explanation! I wonder if the effect of downforce is increased at higher FPS and if somehow the custom version of those cars can be better on PC or if your observations and testing results stay relevant there too.
I dont like how rockstar is so messy with gta. if they're gonna add downforce might aswell add it to all the cars in the game. also the interaction menu needs to refreshed. the mechanic needs to be improved. I can go on forever but im gonna leave it at that
Good explanation Mr. Broughy. By the way I had a question. Do you ever race the Premium races? Because I really Like them and play them every 50 minutes.
To the guy who said "you spin the dude out but don't overtake". Just look at how broughy and the other players drive. they are not your average street racer on gtao. at his level you don't cut corners or spin the guy in front of you to overtake. The choice of car has a big impact on results since the skill of all the drivers are so close. have a look at 11:19-11:22. the leader made a mistake by going into the corner too slowly and was overtaken while exiting the corner. I bet most kids on gta don't even realize what was going on. I had to watch this video a second time by turning my monitors off so i can concentrate on what he said.
Thanks for the kind words. I will just point out though that the leader didn't make a mistake at 11:20. He was just driving to the limits of what the car allowed him and I was able to get in a position to overtake down the inside due to the regular GTB being quicker through that corner. Which worked out perfectly to showcase what I was actually saying in the video. Whether people got this I don't know, but at least the footage didn't have a GTB custom dominating XD
one thing you didnt mention about real life spoilers is that many times they also reduce drag by extending the rear of the car and making it easier for the air to separate from the car. thus reducing the low pressure air pocket behind the car that the car must "drag". this is why many drag cars have long flat spoilers, and the same concept applies to almost all spoliers.
there won't be gta6 for a nice time :D however they could do it in V, it's probably possible, they only have to rewrite 2 rows in every vehicle's file :D
I'd say between 2019-2020 would be most likely. GTAV is way to big of a money train to not do another title in the series. Maybe if the new Red Dead does exceptionally well it could push back a GTAVI even more. But while Red Dead is big, is it GTA big? I kinda got my doubts in that. But while it's possible, I really don't hold any faith in Rockstar to do anything in GTAV. They'll use the same bs line they use about not fixing the car classes and say "some people might like things the way it is", and they never seem terrified to tamper with the game code. If it's not (A) a game breaking issue with major complaints behind it or (B) directly impacting Rockstars shark card sales, then no way in blue hell will Rockstar touch it. There is dozens of issues people want addressed, but because it doesn't fall into A or B above, it won't be looked at. Hoping Rockstar is taking notes and does things properly for GTAVI is the best we can hope for.
To clarify on this video since updates were made afterwards - spoilers are now required on all downforce vehicles. They will improve performance but to a lesser extent than they would on a non-downforce vehicle. The Itali GTB Custom is still slower than the regular Itali GTB though.
So now I should change the default spoiler of my omnis and I will be able to go faster on corners?
Buy if I select the other spoilers option it doesn't show on the traction bar that I have more traction now
Still annoyed that the traction bar does not increase with a spoiler upgrade on the vehicles with downforce...
Damn. At 10:08 you spin the dude out but don't overtake, that is beautifully respectful. Too bad you can't find that often online
VA Without A Job it's pretty common in racing situations within the racing community
Huha Where is that community?
Huha I know it's pretty common in that community, I'm just saying that it'd be nice if others were like that, obviously not possible with the kids that push you around and such
Butnaru it's everywhere, broughys stream crew and his old crew that still exists but focuses more on racing
i do that, sometimes
I m gonna do a TL;DW for those who are not really into this stuff and keep asking the same questions every time : Itali GTB Custom has the downforce stat set too low for it to be more efective all-round compared to the normal Itali GTB which gets a spoiler upgrade . 10:05 RESPECT TO BROUGHY FOR NOT JUST SPEEDING AHEAD
RUclips is broken where is your 1mill subs
MrBossFTW Stole it
Jasowan_ Ohhhh shit tru af 😂
Henry Armadillo it's not broken, this content just doesn't appeal to a lot of people
Pepinus and yet clickbait appeals to a lot of people?

Without the traction bonus of the spoiler, the 'downforce only' cars should technically be easier to induce into a slight drift... and therefore would be faster if driven correctly. kappa
Lmao
Don't laugh at him. I like when these random go sliding through a corner with their fast drift. Gives me an easy pass. ;)

Now that's proper sportsmanship, waiting for the guy to recover instead of overtaking him by ramming him off. GTA Online needs more racers like you.
its actually pretty standard among non shithead racers
only problem is those non shitheads are few and far between
But what if you drifted it ever so slightly? *Kappa*
Evan056 where did this joke come from?
Star Scream there was a comment in the sports lap time video where someone said that they use drifting in a massacro as a way to beat elegies and win races
24hr stream he did this weekend
Star Scream A guy said on fastest sports cars video that no one, even Broughy, knew how to use the Massacro properly, and said that it is actually quicker than the elegy, but had to use a slightly drifting technique...
Yes, on tracks with longer straights and smoother corners. Yes. In a track with a lot of tight corners. No, especially 90 degree corners.
Very different type of porn. Enjoyed though... enjoyed
I thought porn was not allowed on youtube.
I pretty sure 80% of gta players don't understand traction and down force at all, also why no slipstream?
Ray Wei slipstream negates the realism in racing
Ray Wei yup, i always turn off slipstream and catch up because it essentially cheats out any realism
Except that slipstream is prevalent in real racing... just not to the extent of this game...
I wish they'd put in "mild slipstream" already.
no slipstream because in gta it's really overpowered and in real life it's not as effective as it is in gta
What Jordan said. Slipstream is way too OP.
The customs are faster but to get them go faster you have to make a slight drift
nope, customs are slower, any good racer could tell you that
adder beats the shit out of everyone when using slight drifting technique under water while leaning forward
Sayad _ you clearly didn't watch the 24hour stream
Deekah 3B lmfao
how does one do the slight drift technique?
this is the cleanest GTA V racing I've ever seen. Even when you accidentally spun the first place guy out, you let him recover and continued the race in a respectful manner. great vid man as always :)
This video: 10/10. Thank you.
Glad it rated so highly!
Appreciate all the hard work you do for us!
When you thought Rockstar couldn't mess even more with the classes and they put a 1.5 value to the downforce in this custom car...
Says no videos for a week, posts video the day afterwards. #Broughylogic
Great vid as always
CoyneDawg well he recorded this in the 24h stream
I'm watching this 3 years later. Now that the GTB is on the podium, this is extremely helpful.
Same except I remember this video so I’m just here to see what color his car was so his favorite car that got wiped from his character can live on
It just looks nice
I already knew why this is, but i watched it anyway because your videos are just so well made.
you told me what i already knew anyway, but i still enjoyed the vid! Great work!
I love how Broughy is always interactive in the comments. Great video. It must have taken a pretty long time to make.
Damn I've been waiting for this, thanks Broughy - good job mate :)
KazzaTwo hello ;)
The feeling you've been following Broughy for so long, you always know all of this. GG though, good video as always.
Man I'm glad I found this video. It's incredibly informative. Great work and thank you.

Long story short:
- Spoilers add a fixed amount of traction, regardless of speed

Was hard concentrating on what you where saying because of that great race, good video broughy
Maybe something to add for other video's like this to make things even clearer:
Just like in your laptime-testing thumbnails there is the track layout in the bottom right. You put this outline twice on the screen, one for the downforce cars, and one for the spoiler cars (it should be the same outline to show the different strengths and weaknesses).

Yeah wasn't a bad idea. Could certainly have done that. Wish I had now XD Hopefully I explained it with words well enough.
I understood it all, but it would be even easier for one to understand this story with a drawing or picture I think! :)
watched whole video, good job helping entire gta racing community!
You kept your word and didnt edit out the takeout, nice :P
They should increase the amount of downforce on the italia gtb to 3 so that it's faster than the normal italia gtb because what's the point of buy the custom version of it if it is slower than the normal version.
Sonder11alex yeah but that's boring just like the r87b because it's so easy to drive.
Sonder11alex yes I agree also because it cost more to get it all pretty making it look like a actually race car?
Rockstar Cash Grab
On stunt tracks and rockstar tracks in general, there are more high speed corners making the downforce more effective. However on well made community tracks, there are more low speed corners making the spoiler traction more effective.
Yep. They ruin MOD cars after Benny! Why we pay money for upgrade and «mod» car will slow, then regular? WTF LOGIC R*?!
Ahhh new Fact Finding episode!!!
Best series after "Real Life Racing" imp.
This is something I really needed to know and you explained it very well. Thanks for the info Bruff! 👍😊
Can't argue with science! Good stuff. And congrats on 24 hour stream!
You are one of the few who know their stuff! Good job.
If feel like broughy deserves a lot more subs for all the time and effort to make these vids that are so useful to us people that actually watch him.
Anyways great job on the vids👍 Keep it up!
Thanks for the kind words! :)
very well made video broughy ^^. hopefully for the next GTA R will have all of this new things already and have a better balanced car selection.
not gonnq lie... i didnt hear a thing you said after you got 2nd place in the race i the background. Its intense as hell!!
Haha XD
:D you should make a "spin off" video where the spoiler does affect the Traction like the regular version of each car and see where they would have placed if the downforce functionality wasn't a thing. Great explanation Broughy! It's a shame there is no way to increase both mechanical grip and downforce for all cars :/
it's clearly because the custom versions have to carry all that swag
Woo! I made it into a Broughy video!
DucatiDoctor same lol (rhy5fire)
GG on the racing. I couldn't have asked for a better race in terms of footage for this video to show what I was trying to say.
what car class will you be testing next?
Dmitry Bayer Muscle I'm pretty sure
alright man thanks
makes sense to me! thanks Broughy!
Happy to help!
GG and congrats on the 24h stream again!
Thanks Broughy!
You meant it when you said you weren't going to edit out the crash. Even though I know how you operate that's some respect to be had!
Great video Broughy!
Dude, are you racing in real life or other shit? You are killing it!
Funneh thing: It's not even the spoiler who adds traktion, it's the spoiler-UPDATE. Some cars have a spoiler as default and u get a performance upgrade when u REMOVE the spoiler, bescause it's a spoiler-update. :D

In any case though, great video as always, it's really nice to have a source to point people to when they ask about this, which they do, a lot, thanks :)
Trying to get back on a normal sleeping schedule so I'm up now XD
I suppose a few more hours wouldn't make much difference at this point.
Have a good holiday!
>inb4 R* makes all cars use downforce. New testing videos for every car all over again :D
Perfect advice for racing with the NoDo crew.
10:05
Well, you're a man of your word. You showed YT your Twitch sumbaggery Kappa
they should have put its downforce between 2.00 and 3.00
Yeah! +5!
Always entertaining and interesting videos Broughy, keep up the great content!
Greetings from France ^^

Great explanation Broughy!
i remember this footage...
RcNumbers Mr.Crash-a-lot when was it Kappa
My beautiful track recreation:)
Nice video. Very informative! :)
Thanks for the explanation. I definitely understand down-force a bit better now. Hope to see the next updated track and high speed testing videos soon. Is muscle class next?
Thanks broughy. I was going to buy the Itali Custom but you changed my mind
You're soo good at racing!!
This vid reminds me when i was racing my friends with a stock comet and they werent cornering well and i was winning the whole time. And my friend couldnt control the car so he was blaming it the whole time because he was taking the corner too hard and spinning out.
c'mon Broughy, everyone knows that in order to get the most out of a car with downforce you have to initiate a slight drift
I watched your streaming for like 15 minutes (started 10 minutes before you got the 1332 donation :D)
yea i know what downforce means
that's pretty unrealistic you don't need a spoiler to get the downforce
Well explained
title change
#100kRapBattle
Respect for not taking advantage of the bump into 1st place.
I was waiting this since Cunning Stunts :D
Shut up
TheBaconBean No :)
This video helped me a lot
for those who don't understand how down force work ,it just like an air plane upside down
Great explanation, thank you!
Bro you're an amazing racer 🔥🔥🔥
I feel like you could have referenced the fact that you're using the italy GTB, and the person you take 1st place of, is using a custom version of the same car. tho I may have not heard, if you did mention this fact, but I'm pretty sure that you didn't mention it in the video.
Other than that, great video, keep up the good work ^_^
I thought it was obvious given the content and leaderboard at the end but yeah I could've mentioned it I guess. Cheers :)
for people that are casually watching the videos, maybe with something else on another screen (which is usually how I watch youtube) it doesn't stand out that much. I only knew because I watched the stream this part came from ^_^

Yeah! We have a new fuck-finding video!
Pro Genitali haha! Classic Rockstar! Thanks again for all your work Broughy
Thanks for the detailed explanation! I wonder if the effect of downforce is increased at higher FPS and if somehow the custom version of those cars can be better on PC or if your observations and testing results stay relevant there too.
Awesome video.
Not really tbh
Very good video! :)
I wish downforce was on all the cars in GTA, cuz I hate the look of most spoilers, with just a few exceptions.
I came for the "slight drift" comments.
I wasn't disappointed.
I love them XD
one thing you didnt mention about real life spoilers is that many times they also reduce drag by extending the rear of the car and making it easier for the air to separate from the car. thus reducing the low pressure air pocket behind the car that the car must "drag". this is why many drag cars have long flat spoilers, and the same concept applies to almost all spoliers.
GTA racing basically just makes me want to bust out my mothballed wheel and pedals and buy a real racing sim. This video explains one reason why.
amazing info
Thanks broughy and can you please try and update this for all of us when new vehicles come into the game
Hopefully in GTA6 they do it right with tires = traction and spoilers = downforce on all cars.
there won't be gta6 for a nice time :D however they could do it in V, it's probably possible, they only have to rewrite 2 rows in every vehicle's file :D
