✅FIX: Solved it by turning down the fan speed immediately after I turn it on. When you turn it on for the first time the fan speed is set to 10. Quickly turn it down as soon as vou turn it on. ISSUE: Dyson HP04 exclamation error. Brand new out the box and won't start.
I TRIED BELOW , and IT WORKED. Theres is no wind and the error keeps coming up whwnever u turn it on. However, u will have a few seconds before the error sign appears. i adjusted the speed to lower level (in my case it was 7 originally, i managed to change it into 4) then it started to make weird (non windy sound, i dunnno how to describe it, it sounds like static and coming from the enclosed filter section) for a while, and slowly producing wind. then after 20-30 seconds, it works as per normal. will update again if these have any changes. You can always use ur rights as a consumer and asked for refund! its covid time and i dont want swallow the hassles on doing that. Got this self-fix idea from one of the comments below. Thank you.
If the filter is not attached correctly, a warning triangle may show on your screen. If this happens, please refit the filter securely. Refit by firmly pushing the ball back into position, making sure it clicks securely into place with the ball aligned with the Dyson logo on the Main Body.
Wow so just opened a BP01 model and it turns on and off with the exclamation error….so did the fan down as soon as I turn it on and it works fine now! Literally a brand new unit! I think it has to do with QC when they test these they probably ramp it up to all the levels to make sure it works. But it seems to me that they need to bring it back to one so the unit works when the consumer plugs it in!
Solution that worked for me: Unplug and plug it back in. Immediately lower the fan speed before the warning sign is shown. Unfortunately, my machine is a couple months out of warranty so I can't get a replacement from them.
Exclamation error typically means issue with the motor spinning after this delay- from the sound of this video also suggests this. In shipping the motor assembly may have been dislodged or damaged if heavily dropped. Warranty repair or return
the fan is great but it is nothing more than problems and errors. I've had 4(!) replacements and all had different problems. Then even the 4th device they delivered showed problems with the sensor. I've just sent it back and got a refund. Isn't worth all the headaches it comes with
Not sure anyone will need/see this now. However. I believe I’ve worked out the solution of why this happens and how to fix it. I was getting the same error code. I stripped the unit down by removing the top section. Accessing the fan that is in the centre. It wasn’t easy but is definitely doable for any DIYer. When I reached the fan. It was stuck so I used some lubricant. To get it free again making sure it was turning correctly on reassemble. I’ve heard you can turn machine upside down to shift it as I can understand how it moves due to design. Hope this helps someone. If you want a more in depth description I’d be happy to explain to someone.
We had the same problem the speed was set to 10 and soon as the unit powered up the exclamation mark comes up so followed the instructions above, as soon as it powers up reduce the speed I didnt have to drop it down to 1 it worked at 9. Once it starts up properly (at a speed other than 10 it works OK everytime whatever the speed is set to
ALL OF THESE VIDEOS WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE ARE GARBAGE! 🔺️❗ I FINALLY figured it out! 1st. UNPLUG 2nd. Wait 10 Seconds! 3rd. Plug in QUICKLY Hold Power Button on Fan AND Remote Control at SAME TIME for 10 Seconds! After SO MANY ATTEMPTS and Phone Calls! My Fan looks Brand New well taken care of, to have their tech look at it $150 Plus service parts. I knew it had to be something so simple. Let me know if this works, because no one else does!😵💥👋
The fix is noted in the video description 💀 Let me pin it as a comment to make the solution easier to find. Glad you didn’t have to go through Dyson service.
I’ll be dammed man thanks a lot I’m still in warranty but they wanted me to send it back for two weeks to fix but I did just what you said a bam the sensor is working no more explanation mark 👑👑👑
Problem is the ! alert doesn’t say if the problem is that the new filters were improperly install or you have to complete the reset or anything. The i button only goes so far and then you get the ! alert and nothing else. Infuriating!

I did eveything to make it work but no luck! I got mine working doing the same thing! 😅 thankyou for saving me the hassle. I've previously replaced my machine twice with the same issue.
Buying from Amazon (yes, a new, never before touched product) voids Dyson's warranty. They won't even do troubleshooting with me. Amazon just wants me to send it back, but I'd love to just fix it.

Same issue. Had to work with Dyson support to have it replaced. As long as it is under warranty, no hassle.
Did you have to ship back your other one?

2 out of 4 of my Dyson fans at home face this issue. One of them was right out of the box!
I have the same issue, got the waring sign first time I try to start it. Try to lower the fan speed from 10 before the sign shown and it should work.
I've done this but it still goes to the triangle.....I've got the speed down to 1. Any other suggestions only had it 24 hrs
Same here what to do?

Once I plug it in, the exclamation comes up, I can’t even turn it on to bring the fan speed down. Any tips?

This has happened to me as well just wondering if anyone knows how to fix it?
Bummer! I took it back and got a refund.
Every time I turn on rotation I get the error. Ugh!
Same issue here! Have you found a solution to fix it since?
I have same error. I return it and got a new one directly from store 👍
