Indiana Brady and the Salt Mine of Archives.
It belongs in a Salt Mine!
Indiana Haran
Alistair Shaw I think I like Indiana Haran better
That car ride, 150m below ground, in complete darkness with only headlights on... For some reason it seems to be much more terrifying than a ride in a squeaky lift.
I completely agree. I was freaking out just watching them make the drive.
Deepstore - cool name
Unit W6 - also cool name
The coolness of understated designations: I love it!
Laura is so nice, we want more of her :)
she has such a lovely accent
Couldn't understand a word, but who cares. Looking forward to the next video.
5:25 "Perfect." I've had many women whisper that to me and smile.
When you cleaned out the garage that is...
9/10, not enough Keith.
but his daughter instead
Damn, would've loved seeing Keith wearing a hardhat...
Oh god, I want Laura's job. Underground, highly consistent environmental conditions... absolutely zero chance of sunlight. If you could marry work, that would be my spouse.
are you a vampire?
goth much?
You can also work night shifts at a blood donation processing site. Not underground, but the windows are all sealed, work through the night, and temperature-controlled to stay at 20-24 degrees C. Feeling hot? Head down to the cold room, which is set to 2-6 degrees. Still a bit warm? Then the walk-in freezers will be a chilly -40 degrees C.
I am pretty sure internet down there sucks though
What do you have against sunlight?
As someone who volunteers at an archives in a community centre with next to no humidity control whatsoever, I'm extremely envious of this storage facility!!
brady has by far the best job on youtube.
Adelaide Haran and the Temple of Paperwork.
Actually Indy named himself after his dog. So more like Audrey Haran, but this sounds awkward.
Placename Surname and the Building of Concept was my overall formula, because without the context from Henry Sr. In the third film it still makes sense as a nickname.
I've lived down the road from this mine, even been on school trips there, my entire life and had no idea they had this here!
this was pretty cool
Is this where they keep Keith.
Keith knows where the Ark is...
never seen Brady this excited before
This video should be named "Dr. Brady graces the common folk with his presence"
You should make more videos in the salt mine, maybe find a document in the archive which somehow references that same mine?
I would have never imagined that we would store archives under the ground but she made it make so much sense at the end.
I thought I had seen every Objectivity video but the recent highlights video made me realize I missed this one!
Glad you found it.
0:15 I'm from a warm place where no one ever salts the road, so my first time Up North seeing one of those Giant Brown Breasts was mighty puzzling.
Just love your enthusiasm for archives
Wow.... just wow. I'm in awe at your ability to do the unthinkable, Brady. This is going to be a great season for the channel, Objectivity.
This was a unexpected journey. Fantastic, Mr. Brady! Blindfold Keith, and take him down there.
Never imagined that the amount of material was so large.
Also it certainly has a very high cool factor for the storage site!
Wow that is one huge document store. One of my favourite RUclips channels this!!
Laura seems very sweet, I could listen to her all day :)
This looks like the perfect setting for a horror film/game
It warms my hart to see Brady so happy and exited. ^__^
Ooh, now please, can't wait!
Can't wait to see what's in here. It would also be fascinating to know how Laura does the cataloguing. Up to now we've seen items which were already catalogued, how does this process work? It can't all just be in Keith's brain, capacious though it is.
Laura looks so much like Keith... it's crazy
I've been down in a big salt mine under Hutchinson Kansas. They have a storage area there that museums and movie studios use.
Laura is very lovely
Reminds me if the the salt mine in kansas. All the original "friends" tapes are stored there among a lot of other stuff
"Top... men"
Amazing video, never thought today would be the day I would learn about mines... :) Keep up the good work!
It's so great that humanity has figured out we can recycle not just materials, but physical space too! What do you do when you routinely excavate entire vast rooms underground to collect minerals? Storage, of course.
Thats why i just walk around in circles most of the time :-)
Wow - this was so interesting!! I love all things cave-y, so this was a very special treat! Thank you!
I love this channel
Too freaking cool! Love the idea, what an awesome experience that must have been
Incredible, never knew this existed.
Opening Royal Society archive boxes with nothing but a barcode on them? You've found a way to make the White Gloves of Destiny even more fun! The anticipation between picking the card and seeing what exactly the item is always builds the excitement, but having to wait for the next video is going to be tough in this version of the game.
Brady, the master of the part 2 tease!!
This video is really intriguing! I cant wait for more
Now that is amazing. It is repurposing and as explained an excellent place to store documents.
This is so cool! Also this raises so many questions...who paid for this? Can these be called up? How does one get a job at this kind of facility? Do all libraries have rock salt vaults of knowledge?
Welcome to the Aperture Science Document Storage Center
So cool, Brady.
This was lovely
This was really interesting - I had no idea mines could be so voluminous!
This is awesome.
How long would artefacts in the archives to survive if our civilisation collapsed? what is the effective time span of this time capsule?
3:58 an emergency exit 150 m underground. I wonder if it's a giant staircase or if it's an elevator with a backup generator?
Wow, this is SO cool to see! I'm looking forward to the next video :-D
OOH! A cliffhanger! I can't wait for the next one!
No Keith 😮 But still a great episode!
I've been waiting for it like a child! :D Since i saw the photo on twitter
This is a great video!!
150m, that's like one and a half mighty black stumps!
We have top men working on it right now.
Who?
Top. Men... Her name is Laura.
Great video Brady!! Keep it up
To be honest: if the Ark of the Covenant would be hiding in a warehouse somewhere, it is going to be in England. Maybe mixed in with all the Egyptian artefacts.
I see you were loaned a self rescuer pack... proper PPE for a mine!
Did you see Arteezy or PPD down there?
Yeah Objectivity subscribers who are also Dota2 fans, that's a big group I bet.
Now, you guys usually pretty good at avoiding background noise, you use clip on mics, you make sure things are quiet before you start recording, all that good stuff, but you don't work on a sound stage, so things aren't perfect. In this video, I consciously registered the complete lack of echo and background noise. There is none, the only sound in the video once they get in the storage room is them talking. It's creepy.
What a fascinating place! I find that underground environment more interesting than the stuff inside it!
This felt very Tom Scott-y :o
amazing!
I thought it was just those 2 and the cameraman until the pan at 3:57 reveal 4 (atleast, why so many) other people just watching them. Are they there to make sure you don't go anywhere where you not meant to, like trying to break into other people's storage spaces and mining activities or more so you guys don't wonder off in the wrong direction and get lost or are they just curious?
I was under the impression that salt mines beyond a certain depth would self seal after a number of years. But that doesn't seem to be a worry here?
3:56 looks like the most "support" people I've ever seen in any of Brady's videos. At least 7 people to film this? Brady, someone from royal society, someone from deep store, someone from the mining company, camera operator, and a few others? 😰
Such. A. Lovely. Accent.
Pretty excited by those fresh boxes!
Ah, the white gloves of dustiny!
I wonder what other institutions have storage warehouses down there
I love Keith, but Laura would be a welcome upgrade to the channel....
I want so very strongly to get in there and read--I mean, catalogue--all those things. Preferably while digitizing them for dissemination to all who can't get there in person. Just thinking about it makes my chest ache.
So Brady is playing some Dota now? Going into the salt mines.
It's warehouse 13!
That was definitely pretty weird having artefacts in a salt mine. I was half expecting Brady to be taking down a pick axe. Makes sense though considering the humidity levels etc.
Taking hoarding to a whole new level.
I've heard of situations similar to this, and have to wonder, why is it always in salt mines, as opposed to other kinds of mines? Is it because of the salt itself, or because salt is mined differently then other minerals?
I love the sorta 'tada' thing she does at 2:03 😅
So this is where Cliff keeps the rest of his Klein bottles?
How did that bus fit in the lift?!
The same way your brain fits in to your a hole
Listening to Laura makes want to drink a glass of Guinness ;)
Got to remember to go hide there if world war 3 breaks out
At least you'll have lots of reading material. And salt.
you will become falmer
Sweet.
What if the "ceiling" collapses and destroys all that neat information? Is all that information "backed up" digitally or in paper format in another location?
Do you know how thick and strong that ceiling is?
Shouldn't the REALLY old and REALLY important documents all be down there too?
the London archive is a lot more secure and probably better conditions, if not a great deal more expensive to run.
How the frick did they get an entire van down the lift shaft? I can only assume they poured the molten metal down and built the van down there.
I know you're probably joking, but I'm assuming there's a much more cumbersome route down there where vehicles and mining equipment can get down.
Yeah, I would assume the shaft is so that people don't have to walk to the start of the tunnel and increase the risk of injury by massive industrial vehicles... ^^
Same way they got the salt out. If you rub the other braincell a bit harder you can probably figure that out yourself. You don't seem to be short on imagination, its just taking you 180 degrees in the wrong direction.
@@timboatfield Lighten up buddy. It's just a joke dickhead.
How many Mighty Black Stumps deep is it?
How did they get the cars down there?
ah, new tom scott video came to this place too
I'm just confused on why 55% humidity is better for documents than 0%.
Why would you want 0%? Did you think about that before you wrote it?
thats so masive o.0
Disappointment, no Keith this time, although Laura is a very acceptable substitute ^_^
is this visitable? I love weird tourism.
Haha who knew that salt is good for conserving more than just food. :-)
real life Blackreach?
