Watched the first 27 seconds and you answered my question thank you!
Glad you found the video useful :)
Informative and easy to follow, thank you
Thank you 😁
Hi, thanks for the great video. I'm seriously thinking of leaving WordPress (I have been with them for 10 years), because I'm sick and tired of all the updates and fixes I need to do on a regular basis (like you, I'm not a developer or IT person).
I recently found Ghost and it seems like a great alternative. Although it is a lot limited in feature and functionalities.
I'm interested in creating a personal brand - my website will have articles (some free, some paid), premium courses, and eBooks. And so, I want my website to look good, be fast, and SEO/Google friendly.
Do you think Ghost would be a good platform for me to switch to given my needs?
Hi James :)
After almost 2 years, I don't miss using WP. On the contrary, I'm very happy with Ghost.
Short answer to your question:
Yes, I think Ghost satisfies most of your desires. Ghost is fast, SEO is good, and charging for content is easy, but Ghost is not a good option for courses.
Longer answer:
WP tries to be everything to everyone and that introduces so much complexity.
While Ghost 'limits' allows them to be focused and be great at what they do.
For example, you don't have to worry about security and maintenance with Ghost Pro. This frees up so much time.
To charge for content, you only need to sign up for Stripe and connect it with Ghost. No installing plugins and watching long tutorials to learn how to do it.
The writing experience on Ghost is also one of the best.
For themes, you can buy one, or if you don't like what exists, you can hire a dev to create one for you. I made a video a while ago with some themes I like: ruclips.net/video/niEDX-KBgD4/видео.html
In summary, on Ghost, things just work, but you can't use Ghost for everything.
For example, you can use it to sell an e-book with a small workaround. Just make your page exclusive for members and put the PDF as downloadable inside that page.
However, if you want to create a course, I advise against even trying that on Ghost. Using Thinkific for the course and the site for the other content will be better.
Can I host ghost on blue host?
It think you can, but you'll need to buy VPS instead of shared hosting.
bluehost [.] com/hosting/vps
However, BH doesn't mention in their page all the details about what you're buying.
Check Ghost server requirements if you want to self-host: ghost [.] org/docs/install/
Having that said, BH doesn't look like a good deal.
For self-hosting I would pick DigitalOcean at $5 per month.
Or Ghost Pro because they do the maintenance and you just write. Ghost Pro starts at $9/month and BH at $20/m.
Let me know you this was helpful :)
@@thestackjunction oh thank you! oh yes digital ocean seems to be recommended a lot, but is there another place one can self host?
You can self-host on most VPS.
1984 [.]hosting is a bit cheaper than DigitalOcean, but I never used their services
@@thestackjunction oh alright thank you
