New adventures could be their most under-rated album....

Stipes vocals and the melodies on the "id rather chew my leg off"bit are sublime

It's their best album, in my opinion. "Monster", follows it, but with a good margin.

been thinking for 45 minutes about this remark, but I must say: I agree

I'd say that it's a good album but not one of their best. Every album before this is better.

This song reminds me of a failed relationship 😮. Say what you want but R.E.M. had grown so much since the IRS days

OK, I will say what I want: REM were a shadow of the IRS days by now. :p This particular song borrows heavily from What If We Give It Away.

@@ManchesterBlackSheep Weird, because in my opinion this is a far far better song than WIWGIA. People have different "sounds" they associate with REM that largely define which records are their favourites. To me, it's Michael's voice, which largely rules out most of their first four albums hahaha. Although I love Reckoning, I love Fables and I love most of Pageant, I just prefer their later songwriting approach. I think they wrote better songs later on in their career, and certainly better lyrics.

    I move across, innocence lost
    all flashing pulsar
I move across the earth in my new pattern shirt
    I pass satellites.
    "You're so bitter," your complaint
    I can't give you anything.
    I don't know who you're livin for
I don't who you are anymore.
I'd sooner chew my leg off,
    Than be trapped in this.
How easy you think of all of this as bittersweet me
    I couldn't taste it
    I'm tired and naked.
    I don't know what I'm hungry for
    I don't know what I want anymore
    I move across, candy floss
    I move like a tank
    I move across the room
with a heart full of gloom,
    stronger than you think.
    Oh my peer,
your veneer is wearing thin and cracking.
    the surface informs that underneath,
    underneath is lacking.
I'd sooner chew my leg off,
    Than be trapped in this.
How easy you think of all of this as bittersweet me
    I couldn't taste it.
    I'm tired and naked.
    I don't know what I'm hungry for.
    I don't know what I want anymore.
    You move across, innocence lost,
    all static and desire,
you're blue in the face from navel gaze,
    you set yourself on fire.
You strip down and lay yourself out,
I know you can't fake it,
But are you tired and naked?
    Are you tire and naked?
I'd sooner chew my leg off,
    Than be trapped in this.
How easy you think of all of this as bittersweet me
    I couldn't taste it
    I'm tired and naked.
    I don't know what I'm hungry for.
    I don't know what I want anymore.
