Whew hew, I got my amaryllis bulbs from Home Depot. I got one to gift and one for my garden. Apple blossom is my favorite.

First time grower: Mine new bulb is the 2020 version, lol. I picked one up from my local farm/garden center. The kind in the box. I grabbed one I liked randomly at the checkout, and looked at the box last second. The lid was bulging so I peeked under it to see a bare bulb with an S shaped stem and 3 nearly ready to open blooms along with a 2.5” side shoot. I planted her up as soon as I got home and she is now in full bloom 💚

KEY WORD: EASY!!! I have a ton of those lovely things in a 1900's farm house we purchased 5 years ago. Never had Amaryllis before and I am a huge fan now. I didn't know about the top needing to be out of the soil, the ones growing when I bought my house were completely buried and they have come back every year and are putting out new plants and getting HUGE!!! These are truly forgiving plants. I absolutely LOVE them!!! I have 3 amazing white ones called Marquis that I think I will plant in a lovely pot and put in the kitchen window...big back porch makes the kitchen dark, the white blooms will help. Love what you do, Erin. Thanks a million...cheers and happy Thanksgiving!!! Hugs from Florida...❤️👍🏻🥰

I love amaryllis bulbs. My brother stumbled upon them for Christmas and gave me one 😮 Now I’m going to collect them. Also, before you plant it….soak the roots and it will bloom sooner 🌱🌸🌼🌺🥀💦

I’m not fussy about when they bloom, just that they do bloom in the dreary winter months is enough for me. You reminded me that I need to bring my amaryllis inside to get things started. Thanks Erin💚🙃

My amaryllis have been in the ground for years here in Florida, and are a treat when they bloom around February or March. I have always wanted to force blooms for the holidays though. Good to know I should look for specific varieties 😀

Five years ago I got my mother in laws amaryllis when she moved from her house. She was gifted them from a neighbor when she was 12 years old - which would have been in 1941. They are lovely. When I found out how old they were I was a bit nervous to take care of them - but what a legacy.

I planted one for the first time this year in a much smaller blue and white bowl. I'm not hopeful I will get my beautiful white bloom in time for Hanukkah but you know first-timer, planning, and pandemic all that 2020 stuff I'm just glad I will have more than my stubbornly not blooming orchids to look at this winter. That amaryllis is a beast, I actually bought it as a kit in a box I took it out and it already started trying to sprout. It is growing so fast and has two stems coming up already. I love your big beautiful blue and white planter. I was looking at similar ones online and I just couldn't pull the trigger because they were so expensive but I found a small what I think is meant to be cereal bowl at home goods that my husband was kind enough to drill drain holes in to diy a Hanukkah coordinating planter.

Just a tip for you novice Amaryllis growers....a $6.00 bulb from a box store (Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Target) is not as mature as a $15.00 bulb. The bigger the bulb, the more mature the bulb and will produce larger stems/flowers, sometimes two or even three flower stalks. Also, Amaryllis bulbs like to be a little tight in their pot like what Erin is doing here. One more thing...look for a book at your library called Amaryllis by Starr Ockenga. She collects them and is a photographer. Gorgeous book to look through for several varieties.

I love amaryllis and before my Mom passed away last year we grew them together in her room over the winter months. She had collected 15 bulbs and enjoyed watching how fast they grew. Planting them this year will be bittersweet because they gave her such joy. We grew Minerva, Alfresco, Hot Lips, Nymph (our favorite), Red Lion, Christmas Star and Amalfi to name a few. They will need a few more weeks in cold storage before I plant them up but will brighten my winter days! She also collected blue and white pots and I love the large pot you potted the trio into. That will be so beautiful in bloom! Hope you share when it does!

They are sitting along my basement steps losing all their foliage. I am anxious to see if they rebloom for me this year when I bring them upstairs. Another thing everyone needs to know.... they can take a few weeks to show any signs of life when you first plant them, so be patient.

I do like your video about Amaryllus bulbs saving for a next blooming. My experiance with Amaryllus bulbs is , you can force them to bloom at least twice a year. They can stand indoors in a window spot in full sunlight at shout-side, warm above a radiator. Watering when grow or blooming once the ground gets dry out. After blooming, I did cut the flower stem and let grow the leaves for severall months. The bulbs will grow back from beïng smaller after blooming. Next I stop watering till ground is dry out. Next I cut the leaves, the bulb stands there dry in pot on the same spot. So no cool period. After a while the bulb starts growing a new flower but. This might be in 4 till 6 weeks after the cutting. Next when the but opens and starts flowering, a litle watering after letting dry out the ground. So the cyclus starts over again. (excuse me for my language, I am from the Netherlands) Succes with your video's. Your pasion for plants helps others in there plant hobby. Greeting, Marcel.

And now I need to go find some amaryllis bulbs to plant! Thank you for the tutorial! I tried planting one a few years ago but it didn't grow very well which was probably due to me covering the entire bulb with soil. Whoops. I learned something today! :-)

Grew them for the first time last year and now we're hooked. Tried to save last year's six generic red and white box store bulbs. They were potted on Halloween. (Using holidays as planting reminders helps me not forget to do it!). Six more coming in the mail today that are a little more unique. Probably a good thing they are so expensive or they would overrun my house!

Have not tried an amaryllis yet, but I might have to try it this year!

I have about a dozen from last year that I'm getting into dormancy and three new Blushing Bride for the holidays!

What exactly are you doing for this? I feel like I got a late start on it. I accidentally let them get soaked in a hard rain. I had them almost dried up. So I’ve imported them and trimmed the roots some. I be had them in a paper bag outdoors. I’m ready to go cool and dark. Hoping I can start them near around the end of January or February.

Mine are still potted and the leaves have almost finished dying back. When the leaves are fully dry I will cut them back and either leave thempotted in early dry soil in the dark or unpot them, knock off the soil and store them in early dry medium in a crate in the garage. I try to keep them at about 40-45 degrees for about 6 wks and then pull them out, repot them, water once and wait for a green bud to emerge. Most years 4 out of 5 bloom again in late winter.
