      Hi, Steven Booth; I don’t know if the situation has been the same everywhere (during the course of this pandemic especially); there have been times when I found it nearly impossible to find goods and products that I need, and have had to wait for it to be ordered in.
      In the place where I live, during the last year and a half or so, there have been extended periods of time wherein the only stores that were permitted to be open were the ones that carried food stuffs and medications; When stores finally did open up, many of the goods and products had tripled in price, which is inopportune for this time during which so many have been deprived of exercising their means of financial gain.
      At other times, projects come up that have to be attended to on the spot, even during statutory holidays, etc. These types of tricks make it possible to adapt, so that a project can be completed at all, and without compromise of the quality of the job. For those with a little extra time on their hands and possibly a conscientiousness for the environment that keeps them from wanting to be wasteful, or even for somebody without a lot of coin in their pockets, some of these ideas make a huge difference.

    • @daphneraven9439
      @daphneraven9439 3 года назад

      edogaldo: Nobody is suggesting that this you tuber went out and bought those machines with no issues, but decided to make simple repairs difficult. That might be a bit of an unfair assertion. While these workarounds do take a little extra adaptation, and sometimes a little extra time, I believe they have their place.
      In my area, for example, none of the hardware stores were permitted to be open during much of the pandemic, so once the sanding belts (for example) in your workshop have given up all the use that they have in them, that sander ceases to be useful to you without replacement belts. In such a case, the application of another implement, like a glue stick or an eraser, could make all the difference. For the investment of just a little bit of your time, you could get back to working on your project with the tools that you prefer to use.

    Hi, UWOODWORKER; You have some neat ideas there; thank you for sharing them! That glue stick idea in particular could sure get a person out of a pinch. :-) by way of reciprocation, in my neck of the woods, it’s possible to get a gum eraser that’s about 20-30cm (4-6”) long, 5.5-7cm (1.5-2”) wide and thick, that looks a lot like the same sort of gum that’s used on the bottom of kamik- or mukluk-type boots; you can even get them mounted on a paint-stirring stick, which is really handy for just holding the eraser onto the sanding belt, so that the motion of the belt against the eraser does the cleaning quickly. I’ve never had one of those start to melt, even when when applying a little bit of pressure to a particularly stubborn spot that was harder to clean.

    • @daphneraven9439
      @daphneraven9439 3 года назад +1

      True, but you’d want to be really sure there are no oily residues on there or in the traction grooves of the sole that might transfer to the belt and later interfere with the ability of a nearly-finished project’s capacity to absorb the finish that you intend to apply.
      A pencil eraser could also do the trick and might be a good way to avoid having to clean the many tiny grooves in the bottom of a sneaker before that sneaker can be used on the sanding belt.
