    wind from the west fishing is best, wind from the east fishing is least. Thanks for all you great videos. Particularly love the blue nose cod as they were my first fish and favorite even though I guided fresh and salt water in the 3 western provinces. World class artic graying, artic char, chinook salmon, lakers, pike and many more in big double digits is nothing compared to a big red fin while sitting on the bank drowning bait. I took some Auzzies ice fishing and they were astounded they had to drink their beer faster than normal cuz they would freeze if they were not fast enough. Thank goodness my mates took proper care in attending to make sure it did not happen. Tight lines, safe travels and all the mostest bestest everer to you and your loved ones. Peace... I didn't tell you this last night as I had mild sunstroke and had had a few beers and cbf'd typing it out.
    Yesterday my bro (who also watches your vids) and I went fishing in the mighty Hawkesbury River. We were targeting Flathead and looking forwards to catching a few for a feed despite the barometer predicted to start dropping around the time we arrived. We planned well to arrive on the top of the tide and felt that the forecasted NE winds would hold us in good stead for a chance of a few good ones.
    We burleyed up a pack of prawns that had been unused on a previous trip and had the best looking frozen prawns money could buy for bait. I swear i could have thawed them, cooked them and eaten them.
    It's worth mentioning here that the forecast NE wind never turned up and was instead replaced with the dreaded Southerly.
    We stuck it out for hours in no shade with temps around 36-38C.
    After an hour or so my Bro gets excited and exclaims that "He's ON!" He pulls in what turns out to be the second most unwanted fish in the system. The much maligned and oft despised salt water catfish. With a frown and some swearing he eventually gets the hook out, returns it to the water and dejectedly heads over to the esky for a new prawn.
    With a wry smile and the devil beside me I gleefully inform him that he's "ON THE BOARD".
    About 15 mins later I use all my guile and angling prowess to hook a bite that has all the trademarks of a cagey, lazy and well fed flathead. My rod has quite the bend in it and I proudly and confidently proclaim to my brother that it's a Flattie and a bloody good one at that.
    Bringing it the surface reveals that it is infact the MOST despised fish in the system in the form of a large Pufferfish. Imagine a soccerball covered in thousands of cactus needles and you just about have the picture.
    In my bitter disappointment at the catch and the difficulty I was having removing the hook I forgot all about my previous smart arse comment to the Bro.
    He, possessing the comedic timing of Chopper Read patiently waits for my dejected arse to get back to the esky for a new prawn and triumphantly proclaims, "YOU'RE ON THE BOARD".
    Cheers mate.

      @@robbiefishing yeah those damiki tremors 65, you can’t miss with those in the creeks, ive caught cod yellas silvers and rotten carp on them, their my go to if the bite is tough.
      The ballista ones, I won’t part with that sort of money for a lure so I make my own, that’s the reason I started making lures, because I refuse to pay that sort of money for a lure. In saying that I’ve caught far more better fish the last 5 years on my own lures than I did in 20 years with bought ones.

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  Год назад

      @@peppipoohductionswakashunt3157 ahh sorry mate, I totally got the wrong Tremor. LOL
      I'm hearing you loud and clear. I get a lot of lures given to me these days, but if I was to buy my own I would never spend huge dollars on them.
      I have one in my shed that I was given to review 2 years ago. It's worth $150. It's still in the shed. LOL
      It was sent without any prior correspondence, because if there had of been I would have declined.
      I have knocked back sponsorship opportunities from big brands for that reason. So many kids follow me and they can't afford expensive top shelf lures that catch the same fish as cheaper lures. Stumpjumpers and Old Mates work a treat and they're under $20 each. My favourite surface lure is the 70mm Koolabung Codwalker. They're only about $15 each but they're getting harder and harder to find.

    • @peppipoohductionswakashunt3157
      @peppipoohductionswakashunt3157 Год назад

      @@robbiefishing haha all good, yeah your fortunate with that. I understand the hours that go into making some of those lures but I’d be to scared to snag bash with a 150 dollar lure, the shed is the right place for it.
      They say pretty lures catch fisherman, it couldn’t be anymore true, the first surface lure I made was a 3 piece surface water dragon and the paint job was with a grey colour bond touch up paint, got an 87 first session, that sold it for me that it doesn’t matter what they look like as long as your casting in the right spots.
      It would be hard to knock back sponsorship so good on you for that, you see some guys sprooking some lures and you can tell it’s not genuine.
      Cant beat the old school lures hey, they just work although I feel like a hoe if I use anything other than my own I still give them a swim every now and then.
      If I get some time to make a few I’ll send you a few to give a swim, I’m not chasing a plug just like to give them to people who will appreciate them. 👍

      Hi mate, best to pop into your local tackle store and ask. I don't really spend much time in tackle stores so don't know whats on the shelves other than the grear that I use sorry mate.

    Are Murray cod a trash fish? I don't know if I've ever seen you keep any to eat

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  Год назад +1

      Hi Dave, they are absolutely beautiful to eat, probably the nicest of them all. They are widely respected and released, but a lot of people do keep a feed. My dad usually does. I keep one every now and then, but would rather keep one from a larger waterway where there are more of them.
      Trout cod are totally protected due to their endangered status.
