I didn't tell you this last night as I had mild sunstroke and had had a few beers and cbf'd typing it out. Yesterday my bro (who also watches your vids) and I went fishing in the mighty Hawkesbury River. We were targeting Flathead and looking forwards to catching a few for a feed despite the barometer predicted to start dropping around the time we arrived. We planned well to arrive on the top of the tide and felt that the forecasted NE winds would hold us in good stead for a chance of a few good ones. We burleyed up a pack of prawns that had been unused on a previous trip and had the best looking frozen prawns money could buy for bait. I swear i could have thawed them, cooked them and eaten them. It's worth mentioning here that the forecast NE wind never turned up and was instead replaced with the dreaded Southerly. We stuck it out for hours in no shade with temps around 36-38C. After an hour or so my Bro gets excited and exclaims that "He's ON!" He pulls in what turns out to be the second most unwanted fish in the system. The much maligned and oft despised salt water catfish. With a frown and some swearing he eventually gets the hook out, returns it to the water and dejectedly heads over to the esky for a new prawn. With a wry smile and the devil beside me I gleefully inform him that he's "ON THE BOARD". About 15 mins later I use all my guile and angling prowess to hook a bite that has all the trademarks of a cagey, lazy and well fed flathead. My rod has quite the bend in it and I proudly and confidently proclaim to my brother that it's a Flattie and a bloody good one at that. Bringing it the surface reveals that it is infact the MOST despised fish in the system in the form of a large Pufferfish. Imagine a soccerball covered in thousands of cactus needles and you just about have the picture. In my bitter disappointment at the catch and the difficulty I was having removing the hook I forgot all about my previous smart arse comment to the Bro. He, possessing the comedic timing of Chopper Read patiently waits for my dejected arse to get back to the esky for a new prawn and triumphantly proclaims, "YOU'RE ON THE BOARD". Cheers mate.
