They did in New Zealand. We had the domestic ae82 fxgt, Japanese imports of those and the ae9x series, and the ae101 and ae111. They all looked great and were fast for the time, in many cases still faster than the new corollas. Oh, and loads of ae85/86s.
This is my first car! And I LOVE IT!😍 I have no complaints, it’s easy to drive, the sound is good, is really cheap on gas! And it’s the perfect car for me!❤️
I drove one of these as a loaner when I had a recall of my 06 Matrix, and honestly I could not believe the ride quality of this vehicle. It really was eye opening in terms of how far cars have come in 15 years, literally like night and day. This was an incredibly comfortable ride and stylish interior also (and I think that the infotainment screen is cool, disagree with the reviewer on that, he seems to have a fixation on that). For what this is, it is an outstanding car.
I'm glad you seeing a different light. I have my 2005 matrix and even though I have almost 200k miles or 300k km for mileage without too much maintenance made me get 2020 corolla due to history of that reliability and low cost maintenance
Anybody else notice the Ford Edge running the red light at the very end? Lol! Awesome review! Looking for a replacement for my 2011 Focus. Will definitely take a look.
You could add a section. 'what size TV box fits into this car' I eat lunch outside the local big box store and almost every day I see people struggling to fit those large flat tv boxes into their sedans.
@@404nobrakes noooo, not the same. SUVs are actually taller riding hatchbacks. Wagons have a longer rear overhang in comparison. Plus the car ride height, obviously.
Hey! I was born and raised in Crystal Lake too! My first job in the car industry was at Anderson BMW/VW/Mazda as a service porter in 2003-2005. Great years for those brands!
Yeah when I realized Geese is right in my area I'm like wooooahh, I've lived here my whole life so i know all around. It'd be cool if there was ever a meetup.
I love that Toyota stays the course when it comes to their idea of complete reliability and making a pure driving/commuter car that'll last you for 15 years or more.
I once rented a 2012 Corolla for a week, after a week with a nearly-new '12 Focus. It was a pleasure to switch to a simpler car in which everything, including the traditional 4-speed automatic, worked as it should - like it was designed and built by people who actually care.
I was like that...Till I got my 2019 Corolla, radar cruise, and auto brights on top of auto lights, heated steering wheel and seats are all things I don't want to give up on my next car. Maybe by then the lane assist crap will be better, but it's still kind of cool when it works. I agree the infotainment is a joke, may as well have copied Mazdas dash completely, cause the new ones seem inspired by them.
I have a 2010, too! Base model, no bells and whistles, and it’s reliable as hell. Could I afford something fancier? Sure, but I’d rather stick with a car that I can count on that’s also PAID OFF.
I used to say that, you will change your tune fast once you get hands on these new ones. Coming from someone who also owns a 2005 toyota matrix as we speak. You will clap your hands in appreciation.
I love my 2013 corolla S. I wish I had a manual transmission but at least it’s still an automatic transmission and the last year a Corolla had an automatic.
A review that appreciates the Corolla for what is - a simple, elegant, well-handling, comfortable car that sits 4 people without drama. Thank God for this channel!

Great, calm and sensible review, thanks! In Europe you get the sedan with a hybrid engine, which is much slower but has an amazing fuel consumption value. The drawback is that it comes in only one trim level and only that said engine so it is a bit hard to get exactly what you like with it.
We get that too, the 1.8l hybrid is offered in the US. What Europe gets that we don't is the second hybrid with the 2.0 l engine and the wonderful ESTATE.
@@jamesmedina2062 You don't get them because no one on america buys them, you had wagons, no one bought them, so of course no one is going to offer them, losing money in the process.

Once again I agree on all points. I have a 2019 XSE hatch with the 2L. It's a great little car, and I got it as a commuter car to get good gas mileage, it does a fantastic job. I picked the Corolla because of the port and direct injected non turbo engine because I want it to last. That, and it's more comfortable than the equivalent Honda anyway. Great review, love my Corolla.
It's getting rarer and rarer. Although several compact cars still offer that combination, which is pretty great. I got my N/A MT kicks with a new 2019 Miata. Barring any transmission issues, maybe the simple design will stand the test of time.

Thanks for the great review again @savagegeese I just picked one up last week and it’s a perfect car for what it’s intended to do. The only downfall honestly is that horrible screen design sticking up off the dash. No attempt to integrate it into the interior design. Oh, and the center armrest does telescope forward.
Just bought a SE in that same color two weeks ago. It really strikes a nice balance for someone like me who spends a lot of time on the road for work. You get reliability and a tiny bit of fun without breaking the bank.
The interior looks really nice , if only that screen was 3/4th the size and worked into the dash it would have been a VERY nice interior. Sadly interior space seems just too lacking.
Love your videos. One suggestion (and pardon me if you address this elsewhere), but I think folks would appreciate, in the final thoughts section, a quick pros/cons compared to the other vehicles in the segment. I mean I do hear you do just a bit of that, but a bit more, at least for me, would be much appreciated. Thanks again for excellent videos.
The comment about the big piece of plastic on the left side is so true. I had the hatch version of the Corolla and it almost took my knee out when I got into an accident.
I understand that people think CVTs are weird, but what benefit does a CVT with fake shift points have? It doesn't keep the engine right in the power or efficiency band all the time, and it can't handle torque like a normal automatic.
Thanks for demonstrating a night drive review of the Corolla. Wanted to see how the speed odometer gauges, infotainment screen, instruments look illuminated at night. I like how the gauges turn into red while on Sport mode.
I thought the point of the CVT was to maximize whatever parameter the driver is trying to achieve; i.e., performance or efficiency. Get the engine to the desired speed and let the CVT do the rest. So, why the fake-icity with all the fake shift points doing fake shifts?
Too many people complaining about how CVTs feel weird, so Toyota did this to satisfy traditional drivers. Even at the expense of power or efficiency. It's not just Toyota. A lot of car companies are doing this now to their CVTs.
I am a huge fan of the Corolla's Been driving them for 18 years now. Super reliable and good value for the money. The newest Corolla is a welcome sight in many ways and I was happy to see many steps in the right direction but there is one thing that keeps me from buying this car and you addressed it in this video. The horrible horrible did I say horrible? Ipad for a radio in the dash. It is just hideous. Please bring back a double din radio that I can upgrade to something nicer if I want to down the road. Other than this the car is excellent.
Your integration of music (and the kind of music) improves noticibly with every couple of videos. (I'm not not watching every single video back to back.) Keep it Mr. Geese!

This is my first Toyota. I picked this over the Elantra Sport, because the last generation Elantra Sport was the one to by. Current Elantra Sport.... I don't care for it. I got the Corolla in the 6MT and it's definitely the fun one to drive. 6MT comes with cloth, BUT you get push button start and Moonroof! I love it!

Thank you for the video. It helped me a lot and I ended up leasing a 2020 Corolla XSE. Mine just doesnt have the option package with navigation, JBL sound system, or cornering headlights. My car has android auto, so Toyota's nav is pointless. It's a great car, and I couldn't be happier. Yeah, the infotainment is just bolted on top, but I'm tall enough that it's no distraction at all, and the regular sound system is all I need. Otherwise, it has everything I could ever want. It's comfortable, user friendly, and a pleasure to drive. Keep up the good work!
@@alvinsimba734 No. The XSE is nice, but if I decided to buy a coraolla instead of leading in 3 years, I'll probably drop down to an SE because of the cloth seats, plus, the electronic gague cluster hasn't impressed me at all, but, I'll make sure and compare and contrast when the time comes. Don't get me wrong, I love the car overall, but its easier to go top-of-the-line in a lease. When you buy it outright, what options matter and what doesn't become more paramount, at least to me.
@Richard Favreau So far so good as far as the tires go, and no problems overall. There is an issue with the windows fogging up easily. That has bothered me a bit. Look, in spite of it being an XSE, it's still a Corolla. It's a very comfortable car. I could drive in the car for hours and not be bothered, certainly a big deal. It has tons of safety features, something companies like BMW and Mercedes have been lagging on, but even with the bigger engine, it's never going to be a car that wows you mechanically. The bigger engine just makes acceleration acceptable instead of adequate. It is what it is, and what it is is a comfortable car that will keep you very happy....to a point.
Love how you don't adopt a sporty car attitude and understand the realities of facing car payments. I will be hungry for more affordable car videos from savagegeese!
I figure the best way to learn a manual is to buy one. In December, I went to test drive the 2020 Corolla SE sedan. Had to bring my mom along, because I don't know how to drive a manual, but she does. Overall, I was shocked by how nice the Corolla was. How nice it felt sitting in it as a passenger, how easy it was for me, someone with zero stick driving experience, to quickly learn how to drive it around in a parking lot. As my mom was driving it, I noticed the transmission was as smooth as a traditional automatic. I wasn't happy about the piano black interior trim pieces, or the tablet-stuck-to-the-dash design. But the positives far outweighed the negative. Ultimately, I decided to special order a 2020 Corolla hatchback SE manual, though, which should arrive at the dealership sometime in February (at this moment, my car is in a parking lot somewhere in Japan, waiting for a spot on a boat). If you think the Corolla is a boring car, all I can tell you is, go out and test drive one and see it for yourself.
Why do you reviewers always seem to test the top of the line of a particular car, for the price of this thing, you can buy a bare bones Camry. Most people buy the cheaper version of these cars.
I have a '17 Corolla w/ the 1.8 L CVT. No balls, totally gutless. Just the best car for driving to work-point A to point B. Happy with my purchase. I bought the pre-production loaner. Had 6K miles. $17K out the door. Still smelt new and had warranty left.
You tell me your pet peeve with this car and I'll tell you mine. Ready? The gauges with that blue arc look like something from the 80's. And one more thing not related to the Corolla: Weren't we supposed to have the conclusion of the Miata series with the ND video on January 3rd?
Yes someone finally points it out! 👍 i've hated Toyota gauges for a while. Noticed them first in an SW20 then i could never unsee their cheap or lazy gauge cluster design.
Amazing how almost every manufacturer has gone with this ridiculous looking monstrosity on the dash that looks like some glued an ipad to the top of the dashboard....who the hell thought that looks good !
i agree. i bought this car and i was a bit skeptical/unsatisfied with the placement of the screen. it definitely has to grow on you. i definitely love the practicality of the buttons and the two scroll knobs it has. they feel good when you turn them
Many reasons, including ever-increasing government standards and mandated items on new vehicles. It all costs money to develop and include, and they're gonna price the vehicles in a way to ensure they recoup all development costs on a new vehicle, of which there are many. Lane departure warning, automatic braking, backup cameras, increasing mechanical complexity to meet CAFE standards, licensed software like Carplay and AA--none of it's free.
I just bought a 2020 Toyota Camry SE in December and it was around 10% off msrp. It originally costed around 27,000 but the dealership had a discount of $2000 off with a rebate of $1000, and I only had to pay $24,450!
Notice to the left of the steering wheel many empty buttons. I don't why Toyota won't offer these features on the USA Corolla, while the Canada & Europe Corolla has it - heated steering wheel and wiper de-icer and backup assist

i know "kids", who cant even afford a driving licence. its around 2000€ btw. my first car was a 12 year old run down piece of shit polo, it cost me 800€ wich is less than my licence was.
OK boomer. They still can't afford these cars. Student loans and housing costs are insane.
Kids dont buy this cuz they buy unreliable crap cuz it looks good
They did in New Zealand.
This was an incredibly comfortable
ride and stylish interior also (and I think that the infotainment screen is cool, disagree with the reviewer on that, he seems to have a fixation on that).
I swear, people are getting dumber and dumber as the years pass. Soon they won't even be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.
The very definition of driving appliance. PS. Love the wah pedal.
Yet he trashed the 2020 VW Passat for being the exact same thing, but the VW had a better infotainment system.
You could add a section. 'what size TV box fits into this car' I eat lunch outside the local big box store and almost every day I see people struggling to fit those large flat tv boxes into their sedans.
They should have bought a wagon. Would fit with no problem. Except Americans don't buy wagons.
palebeachbum they do. They’re called SUVs
@@404nobrakes noooo, not the same. SUVs are actually taller riding hatchbacks. Wagons have a longer rear overhang in comparison. Plus the car ride height, obviously.
32" LCD maximum. Anything bigger, and it won't fit in the back seat.

A car to get you from point A to point B. Plain and simple.
Thanks
it can do it for 20 years or more.
Buy a Ford Model T then!
I hope you meant that as an insult. Because it is.
My 2003 Accord does the same for way less.
Love my 2010 corolla. No infotainment or any of that junk. Just a simple car that has everything you need and nothing else.
Local Toyota dealer is tagging $6k off msrp for three SE MT models. That's a heckuva deal getting this thing under $20k
A Toyota dealership quoted me $19,995 for a 2020 Corolla SE hatchback.

7:01 With that dash, a webcam girl won't need theatrical lighting to stream at night.
He must have the dash lights cranked all the way up for the video, rather than turned down far as possible for better night vision. Or, he jumped in to drive the car right after the cam girl 😂
Some EU countries get more trim level choices, you can get them as EU imports.
The majority of the new Corollas I've seen have been hybrid wagons.
Americans stupidly don't get enough wagon options. No Corolla or Accord or Camry or Civic wagons for example
@@jamesmedina2062 You don't get them because no one on america buys them, you had wagons, no one bought them, so of course no one is going to offer them, losing money in the process.
Thanks for taking the review serious and providing actual information for potential buyers. Definitely refreshing after watching
"Quirks and features" reviewers just meme their entire videos. Favorite Car RUclipsr for sure.
Yep. SE, 6speed is the way 2 go.
Thank you for doing this review, I have been doing research in preparation to buy a new car, and your reviews have been the number one thing that has decided which cars I am considering. Thank you for such high quality and in detail content, especially with the interior, since your taste just happens to be similar to mine.
I still love my 2017 corolla sport. You can't beat paid off at 40k miles. It works for me. Point A to B.
I have a 2012 corolla sport, it was feel numb until I change lighter rims and tyres, it drives like a really different car and handles way better on corners now and since im done with financing the car ill upgrade the suspension to have fun to drive on corners
Waiting for Ep5 ND Miata 🤯

I hope they go into detail on the LSD (type, slip percentage) on the ND(2) because there is not a lot of solid info out there on this topic.
I'm hoping for a Turbowski appearance in the ND episode.
@@rosswallace2969 i think hes trolling us at this point, literally a COROLLA

Once again I agree on all points. I have a 2019 XSE hatch with the 2L. It's a great little car, and I got it as a commuter car to get good gas mileage, it does a fantastic job. I picked the Corolla because of the port and direct injected non turbo engine because I want it to last. That, and it's more comfortable than the equivalent Honda anyway. Great review, love my Corolla.
I would take the SE. 18" rims won't suit the rough roads around here .
@@rightlanehog3151 I almost went SE but I wanted some stuff that you could only get on XSE. At least the Canadian version.
@@revnto7k I am in Canada too so I am obsessed with summer potholes that turn into craters in the winter. What features were missing on the SE?
@@rightlanehog3151 On the hatch, dual zone climate control. And I also prefer the fog light bumper because I hate the blanks on the SE.
Agree on choice of Corolla engine choice vs. Civic. But if the Civic has Port Injection...the Civic is better hands down...
I love a good naturally aspirated engine with a manual. Keep up the good work!
Exactly.
It's getting rarer and rarer. Although several compact cars still offer that combination, which is pretty great.
I got my N/A MT kicks with a new 2019 Miata. Barring any transmission issues, maybe the simple design will stand the test of time.
I’m really digging Toyota’s design language these days 👏🏽
I respect you like it however for me it is so bad it hurts my eyes to look at it.

I honestly really appreciate what the corolla is admist all of the cars on the market today. Simple, NA, Manual trans option, and this time they made it even look really good!
You're right, that infotainment screen looks terrible . Especially when you compare it to the screen in the Mazda 3.
I really like that you talk about realistic cars and not taking out $50,000 dollar loans to pay for expensive vehicles!
Savage: consider doing some reviews outside of cars. Your knowledge is great. I understand these would be more of a blog, and obviously limited amount of editing would be needed. I would like the learn from you ;)
I bought a new corolla in '81 for $9000. Loved that car. Drove it for 9 years then bought my first and only Camry. Today I drive a platinum Highlander.
Rumor is that the screen on the dash makes it easier to change in the future without having to redesign the entire dash.
Funny how my DIN radio is in the dash and the most modular thing in my car.
@@Christian--- you're still confined to whatever size the DIN is though. You cant get larger in screen size without getting in the way of other controls.
Thanks for a great video! Car buying has been stressful during the shortages and the global pandemic. Your content helps me research and point out things I don’t normally think about.

Its good to see Toyota finally updating their car lineup. It was waaaaayyy overdue.
What do you mean overdue? Their new crap is barely out and you want a newer one?
@@Christian--- No. Are you aware of the last generation Corolla and Camry etc? If so, then my comment will make more sense.
Another great video. Great format, good video length, easy to digest. Dirty, real car reviews are the best.
The interior looks really nice , if only that screen was 3/4th the size and worked into the dash it would have been a VERY nice interior.
Sadly interior space seems just too lacking.
You make such high quality videos. You are the best in making automotive videos to be honest. Great job.
They dont have any benefit. They reviews complained for a decade about the rubberband effect and as a result fake shifts were put in .
Thank you so much for this great channel, super comprehensive videos without being way too long 🙏🏼
My favorite car, my favorite color and my favorite trim. AWESOME!!!!
I remember when my older brother bought a new Toyota Camry V6 XLE fully loaded for $26k... this costs almost 30 grand!?
Take 5000$-6500$ off durring the clearance event and you can get the top trim Corolla for under 20k.
Toyotas MSRP is for stupid people

Your integration of music (and the kind of music) improves noticibly with every couple of videos. (I'm not not watching every single video back to back.) Keep it Mr. Geese!
As an owner of an LE, I can say the screen does not get in the way whatsoever

Maybe you can tell those guys at Toyota to give us an XRS model again and put the 8AR-FTS 2.0L turbocharged motor under the hood💢
Toyota just previewed an upcoming 250 HP, AWD Yaris so we need to aim for at least 400 hp with the Corolla ;)
You not planning to keep that corolla if leasing eh

Press cars are almost always fully loaded to showcase all available features.
Can't help but appreciate the quality reviews
How about a Rav 4 hybrid review?
They are still in short supply for the press fleet. When they start building them in Kentucky there ought to be enough for consumers and reviewers.
The armrest absolutely telescopes front and back!

Awesome video as always man! Thank you for all the hard work that you’ve put into all of your videos.
Doesn't the Camry SE start at 28,000? Why are new compact cars so expensive?
Because steel and sheet metal are not the most expensive components of a vehicle.
