    65 THOUSAND TONNES!?! I can’t even begin to imagine what sort of foundations that building has to be able to support that. Cool vid Katie

      I know! And the crazy thing is they're no way as big/deep as modern building, such clever calculations, if I think about it too much it melts my brain!

    On my visit to London in January 2020 I coincidently took a photo of St Paul's by the Lloyd's Bank and from Fleet Street as shown. Loving your videos whilst we wait to be able to visit again!

    I used to work near Fleet Street and would walk down to St Paul’s on the way home, even though it took me longer. You just can’t beat that view!

    I have just found your very informative site and all I can say is how brilliantly you present this history on St. Pauls. My surname is Wren but I don't think I am related to the great Sir Christopher. I am studying all that I can on the great man and I found your two videos most interesting and although I have visited the Cathedral you gave me some information that I did not know, so than you for that.

    Do you know anything about a chapel called St Faith under St Pauls? One of my ancestors was christened there in 1733 according to records. I have found a photo of something that claims to be St Faith. If it is St Faith the earliest the pic could be is say 1860. Yet elsewhere I read that it has not existed since 1551.
    Any ideas please?? Would be most welcome.

    Wow. The small hospital, and the dome weighs 60.000 tons, more than the Titanic. I love facts like these.

    Saint Paul preached to the Druids at Ludd Hill, the very sight of St Paul's Cathedral, probably explains why he is the patron of the capital. Source information, the missing chapter of acts, acts 29, Saint Paul in Britain by R.W Morgan and Drama of the lost disciples , chapter 16 by George F Jowett. ✝️🇬🇧

    I worked at the Cathedral from the late 60s into the 70s. I walked the 627 steps to the Stone & Golden Galleries almost every day as a Verger, but participating in services.
    We all had a "B" key which gave access to every part of the Cathedral not open to the public. Very very dusty.
    The dome weight has been estimated at 64K tons.

    • @LookUpLondon
      @LookUpLondon  3 года назад

      Must’ve kept you fit! Yes I believe they still use the same keys as that what was giving us access! What an amazing place to work. The St Paul’s website says 65k but when it’s that heavy what’s an extra 1,000 give or take eh?! 🤣

      No the present St Pauls has always been Anglican the old St Pauls destroyed in the1666 Fire was Catholic up untill the Reformation!!

      Why didn't you mention the Grave stone that Wren used for the Surveying for the new build that when turned over had "RESURGUM" Carved on it & is now placed high on the Eastern end of the South Wall with what the Church called an Eagle but is in fact an effigy of a Pheonix!!
      If you'd done the Corperation of the City of London Guide Course first you would have learned these facts?? but they are not a Comercial Course that is open to anyone who pass the required criteria They'r open to anyone who passes an entrance exam & once you have passed & recieved your badge the CIty do not provide work but keep a register of the guides & their contacts to inform anyone who asks them for a recommended guide??
