    Eurocity rail service from Vienna to Trieste, via Ljubljana connects three countries in Europe. The direct connection, which is available to passengers every day, represents a significant shift towards sustainable mobility for Austrian and Slovenian Railways, together with the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
    The Austrian Southern Railway was a 577.2 km long double track railway, which linked the capital Vienna with Trieste, former main seaport of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, by railway for the first time. It now forms the Southern Railway in Austria and the Spielfeld-Straß-Trieste railway in Slovenia and Italy.

    The scenery throughout the length of this trip is worth the price of the ticket all by itself. The long shadows and the changing colors of fall just added to it. Great video as always.

    To all Cab-ride-youtubers:
    Please look carefully, how a nice, informative ride should be created.
    Top wide angle camera lens, zoomed a bit. Just perfect how to avoid a headache.
    And all the informations:
    Elevation. A dot on the route. Total distance. Speedometer. Names of all siddings, stations, rivers, side branches, tunnels, bridges, borders etc.
    Just how great is it!? All thumbs up!!!

    to be precise, only up to ViOp the loco was a Vectron. From ViOp onward it was a Siemens Taurus 1216 :)

    2:29:18 Pretty sure that's a 'FYRA' train, they were originally made in the Netherlands but they were so problematic on the Dutch rail with regular system failures, broken doors etc. due to the cold climate in the Netherlands. They only lasted 4 weeks until they got taken out of service completely. They were all bought by Italy and surprisingly still in service there to this day. They run fine as long as it doesn't get cold. 😅

      @peer72 it might be. Is it a long time ago they changed them? That train might go to Venice or even further south, so maybe they don't have problems with cold weather. Thank you for that info.

      Yes it is! After being stored for nearly 10 years, Trenitalia bought the sets which are all in service as of today, apart from 2 or 3 of them which were used as spare parts sources and are abandoned in the factory. They run it on high speed services throughout the country with a maximum speed of 250 km/h, that service in the video was going to Milano, possibly even further to Torino.

    This line is a nightmare. The speeds are the same (if not lower) than 40 years ago (or maybe even in the K. und K. era). I wonder how much delay did the train have upon arrival to Trieste. However the video is very good.

    Is it possible by any chance that the speed limit will be 100+ on this route? So sad to see that train mostly goes 70-80 on flat straight road.

    Bellissimo viaggio, guardato già cinque volte, dimenticato di commentare. Perfetto ! Peccato però che le FS non aiutano questi filmati, in Slovenia tutto ben spiegato e preciso, le Sz collaborano, in Italia solo i nomi delle stazioni, le FS non collaborano. Tipico vizio italiano.

    Nice videos here. Brings back memories of doing numerous dry docks in Trieste and travelling in the area through Slovenia to Croatia. One question I have is why the train route does a huge doubling back (hair pin) instead of going via Trieste Campo Marzio in an earlier branch of the journey? 🤔 Used an extra 20 to 30 kms to travel.

      @dimitriospaleocrassas432 the Trieste Campo Marzio has been closed to passenger traffic since 1960 and is used for historical amateur trains. It houses the railway museum of the same name.I don't know the exact reasons it was closed to the passenger traffic.

      Trieste Campo Marzio was build as the terminal for the Transalpina line to Jesenice. But after II mondial war , this railway past Villa Opicina remained in the territory of Yugoslavia, at which point it was decided to leave only the central station for passenger service in Trieste, with the line via Bivio Aurisina.

    SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW TRAAAAAAIIIIN even in straight line, hardly a cosistent speed over 50 the first 30km. Then from 40km gone 80+. Again slowing down with no reasons through the mid rail of non-stopping stations but racing when close to the quay in others. TRAIN OR ROLLER COSTER?

    Wenn ich mit Umsteigen in Udine fahre, bin ich genau 2 Stunden schneller von Wien aus in Triest. Ob sich dieser Zuglauf halten kann, wenn die Koralmbahn eröffnet ist und alle Züge nach Kärnten und weiter nach Italien über Graz fahren?

      I actually prefer wide angle (fish eye) - yes the catenary poles get distorted when passing them, but You can see much wider surroundings.

      they switch the locomotive twice, between Vienna and Ljubljana it’s a Vectron, then this other locomotive and later a Taurus

      @themazeRP for sure it was the Vectron that is on the photo from Ljubljana. When it arrived I also thought that it wont be the one going further, but it was.

      @@RailRelaxation From Ljubljana to Villa Opicina, it clearly sounds like an older locomotive with DC drive and block brakes, it can't be a modern three-phase locomotive. And I know what a Vectron sounds like...

      Well, it is running on the DC powered line so no transformer sounds. I was actually unsure about the Taurus on Villa Opicina to Trieste Centrale as it was missing do-re-mi sound when starting - don't know if it was due to the location of the microphone or maybe simply on 3kV DC powered lines locos sound differently (no transformer hum as on 25kV/15kV AC lines and different IGBT inverter sounds)?

      @@ZvonimirZelenika It's a 1216 (ES64U4), sometimes called "Taurus 2", it has no scale sound. Only the 1016/1116 have that, but they cannot drive in Slovenia and Italy because they are only suitable for AC power.

    did you have change loco in Villa Opicina, right? which locos did you use in Slovenia and Italy?

      @Modugnma yes, they changed the loco in Villa Opicina. The first was SZ LTE 193 Vectron and the second in Italy was Siemens Taurus.

      from the sounds seem to be a sz 363 until Villa Opicina and after a Taurus (or a Vectron less probably), is it right? which operator in Italy, FS Passeggeri doesn't have a Taurus, is still SZ or InRail?

    LJ train station and its degraded surroundings are an embarassment not only for Ljubljana, but for Slovenia as well. Shame goes to mayor, the govrnment and laziness of SŽ. Otherwise, excellent video.

      TBH, by Romanian standards, is smack clean, like absolutely perfect.
      You have to see Bucharest Gara de Nord. Correction, better not. But Arad has a very modern train station.

      SŽ nimajo neki velik s tem. Oni nemorejo sami izvesti tako velikega projekta, naša država se je pa 20 let nazaj odločila, da nam bo našo glavno postajo izgradil privatni investitor. In tako se še danes vleče ta saga.

      @@justsamoo3480 SŽ ima vse s tem! Privatni bo oz. če gradil samo komercialni del, ostalo SŽ in država. JZP je propadlo, ker se gredo tipično po slovensko - birokracija, zavlačevanje, sprenevedanje, prelaganje odgovornosti, lenoba.

      @@dominikgruskovnjak2511 SŽ so odgovorne samo za upravljanje in vzdrževanje, ne pa za izgradnjo nove infrastrukture kot je Emonika.

      @@justsamoo3480 sama Emonika je komericalni del, za komercialne vsebine, ki sovpadajo z javnim delom: AP in železniška postaja. Odgovorna za izgradnjo je seveda država (direkcija?), ampak ta pasivnost SŽ je tudi problem, mar ne?

    druze koji je to voz kojim se moze doci direktno do trsta...znam da do pre godinu-sve vozom nije moglo uopste da se predje granica SLO/ITA...jel to mozda neki koji krece iz beca ili neki u organizaciji SZ-a.
