5 Years Without Filthy Frank (The Story Behind Joji)

  • "Filthy Frank" was an online personality created by George Miller, who would satirically (and brilliantly) create some of the most offensive and absurd pieces of content in the age of when RUclips allowed almost anything on the site. After several years of making videos, music, and even a full-fledged storyline/lore out of the "Filthy Frank Show," George decided to then suddenly stop and leave it all behind to his millions of fans and viewers at the time, to go and pursue his true passion in making serious/passionate music, under the name "Joji." After leaving the Frank character behind, many things took place in George's life and career as Joji, and the same could be said about the ripple effect that his former content has had on the RUclips platform. This is the story of what that man, George Miller, was able to create as Filthy Frank for the time that he was active, and then also what Joji has gone on to become.

Obviously he draws plenty of distance from his previous work and sure he might make a nudge towards it every now and again through his new work. But what if he just developed and grew as a person and chased after his new endeavors as an artist. Filthy frank was never meant to be his bread and butter it was only a way to get his foot in the door as planned many years ago. I believe he would have never taken the characters as far as he did if it wasn't for the fear of what would become of his life after transitioning to new mediums as well as the inescapable high one feels when engulfing themselves in the ego of the shadow self.

I knew he was going to make real music as soon as I heard the Chloe Burbank tracks. They were sooo good! It broke my heart when he canceled the album. I wish George could have managed his personal life and the frank stuff better, I liked his vlogs and his "real" music and knowing that he was drinking heavily to do the Frank stuff kind of made me want him to get away from it. I'm glad his career went the way it did. I liked the Frank stuff I had been watching it since I was a teen, but eventually I just hit my 20s and started having adult aches and pains, and well I just kept listening to those Chloe Burbank tracks and the pinkguy mixtapes and later the Joji Ep and his albums. Feels good to know he's out there living his best life.

George definitely made a huge impact in the RUclips/meme community, but he wouldn't have lasted because of edgy humor being outlawed. The 2018 suicide forest controversy with Logan Paul being the peak of this change in times. I think overall, George is at his best when he's Joji. Sure, the Filthy Frank era was great in its own way, but George's work as Joji feels more generational and personal.
you can also really tell in a lot of George's 2016-17 content that he really just wanted to do Joji stuff instead of Pink guy/Frank
