Major correction... FFXV absolutely had a director's cut, Royal Edition expanded the final part of the game greatly. Also not considering Elden Ring an RPG but considering FFXVI an RPG is definitely strange.... like what?!
When Damon, Sam and Justin have a RPG guy on with them, they complete the video game knowledge quadrumvirate. It’s a shame they didn’t get to do a 20 questions this time.
This was my favourite episode topic of the year. Great idea, and it brought back a lot of nostalgia. Too bad you ran out of time towards the end though. The lists after ps3 era were really rushed, to the point where I'd almost disqualify them. Given the scope of the topic, you really needed 2-3 episodes to do it justice.
Will always love hearing the shoutout to my fav RPG, Ogre Battle 64, even though it was hard not to mention that one considering the lack of RPGs on the N64
Xbox 360 was a banger for rpg and jrpgs. Lost odyssey blue dragon infinite undiscovery just bangers. The Western rpgs was also bangers. They need more time on the 360
I’d like to shout out IGN’s own Matt Kim, who low-key threw out my favorite definition of an RPG on Game Scoop back when first discussing FF16. He said he thought an RPG is a game where you can make real choices about how to customize your characters. By that logic, a game like Final Fantasy Tactics would count but Shining Force not so much. Controversially, does that rule out Pokémon as a true RPG?
That is a very broad definition that would include games like GTA and Wii Sports. I'd include that an RPG should have opportunities for role playing and character growth (through levelling up usually).
@@fotografickYou absolutely cannot customize your character in those games. Note this does not mean appearance. It means ability choices that preclude others, committing to classes, etc. Leveling up, as you say, is a big part of this when it includes real choices (ie, not which order to select abilities in but actual mutually exclusive choices).
No nods or mentions of either Xenogears or Legends of Dragoon on PS1? When talking about RPGs with a story that keeps escalating and keeps getting more complicated , crazier and bizarre the longer you play it, Xenogears is way up there. Also a really fun combat system too.
Pretty sure you left out the Saturn and Dreamcast so... Saturn: Shining the Holy Ark, Shining Force 3, Panzer Dragoon Saga Dreamcast: Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Phantasy Star Online
Woah woah woah, was the Saturn completely skipped? Panzer Dragoon Saga has made top 100 game lists of ALL TIME not even just RPG's. You also had Shining Force 3, Dragon Force, & many others like Lunar, Grandia, etc if you count the JP library.
::viewer question:: With chucky cheese animatroics missing but excitement out the way, did that peek any intrest in "Five nights at freddys" movie coming?
No Sega Cd mentions for games like Lunar? No Dreamcast either with Sky’s of Arcadia/Phantasy Star online. Nice that Sky’s got a mention with GameCube but would have expected Dreamcast to be covered.
Golden sun did nothing memorable?!They took Pokémon and made it better, incorporated summons. Had magic usable during exploration and some required to pass obstacles like a metroidvania. Y’all slipping.
Plenty of games have sub genres. The standards for the this question should be that RPG is the main genre of the game. Also, The Battle of Olympus is superior to Zelda 2 and should have been mentioned.
Major correction... FFXV absolutely had a director's cut, Royal Edition expanded the final part of the game greatly. Also not considering Elden Ring an RPG but considering FFXVI an RPG is definitely strange.... like what?!
How in the Sam hell is the Witcher 3 not an RPG?
If The Witcher 3 isn't an RPG, then Mass Effect 2 sure as hell isn't.
Lol, can't believe someone would think that The Witcher 3 is NOT an RPG
Big fan of Peer, looking forwards to this one
How was there no mention of Legend of Dragoon for the PS1 or Lost Odyssey on the 360? Those are some of my all-time favorite RPGs ever made.
Just started listening and Listening ifLost Odyssey isn't on here it's a BiG miss
This is what I’m saying as the lump 360 and ps3 together
Yeah. Lost Odyssey was snubbed for sure.
And blue dragon!!
@@zach8002 yes
Now that's an all-star cast!
Can we get this exact cast every dang week?

Sam's mic is way too loud this episode.
Not including Suikoden 2 would have been blasphemy!! Glad Justin fought for it.

Sega Saturn - dragon force, guardian heros, shining wisdom 3
Dream cast - grandia 2, skies of Arcadia, evolution 3
panzer dragoon saga
How is Golden Sun not the choice for GBA? One of my favorite RPGs over all and the best game on GBA
A Hybrid Heaven shout-out?! Never thought I'd see the day. That game was groovy...
Would've been nice to hear some PSP & Vita RPGs.
So many great RPG’s on SNES. One that didn’t get a shout-out but deserves a mention: Lufia 2.

Shining Force 2 might be my favorite rpg of all time. Definitely, my favorite SRPG.
This episode was pure Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Please, someone, what was that amazing closing music!? Whatever it is, I'm playing that one next.

Not even a mention of Breath of Fire 3 for the ps1 or Dragon Quest 8 for the ps2.
Well this is an episode I’m watch a couple of times and contemplate.
Baldur’s gate 3 , persona 5 , persona 5 : royale
Elden Ring is definitely an RPG. Just as much as Mass Effect lol.
Will always love hearing the shoutout to my fav RPG, Ogre Battle 64, even though it was hard not to mention that one considering the lack of RPGs on the N64
Witcher 3 ofc ❤
Jade Empire Yes I'm here for that. Such an overlooked gem.
You guys Foret to mention for the PlayStation

Xbox 360 was a banger for rpg and jrpgs. Lost odyssey blue dragon infinite undiscovery just bangers. The Western rpgs was also bangers. They need more time on the 360
Where's the love for Dreamcast? Phantasy Star Online, although episode 1 + 2 on Gmecube also wasn't mentioned. Otherwise a scoop gem.
Peer! 🎉❤
For PS2 sad that Xenosaga was ignored.
LOOOOOVED this episode :D Would love some spin offs for best platformers, action games, etc!
Great cast. Next time you've gotta at least do each decade of RPGs on PC. Also, what were they referencing at the very end?
Missed lunars on Sega cd/PlayStation and some amazing RPGs on the Sega Saturn. Shining force 3!
Chained echoes and jack move are stellar rpg for all platforms 👌....soon sea of stars
WHAT IS THE OUTRO MUSIC!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!
I'm trying to figure that out too! Daemon usually puts the name of the game but I'm guessing this isn't from a video game.
Its Shining Force 2!

Radiant Historia on DS. A fantastic Atlus game. Fun combat and an incredible soundtrack from Shimomura.

Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks chaps!
Gotta give it up to 16-bit dungeon crawlers like Shining in the Darkness on Genesis and Arcana on SNES.
The DREAMCAST?!?
No nods or mentions of either Xenogears or Legends of Dragoon on PS1? When talking about RPGs with a story that keeps escalating and keeps getting more complicated , crazier and bizarre the longer you play it, Xenogears is way up there. Also a really fun combat system too.

Saturn: Shining the Holy Ark, Shining Force 3, Panzer Dragoon Saga
Dreamcast: Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Phantasy Star Online
The Friday scoop crew are here
You guys think Final Fantasy 16 is more of an RPG than Witcher 3? I love both games, but that's just factually wrong.
The Lunar Series (granted it was Sega CD) started on the Genesis.
Woah woah woah, was the Saturn completely skipped? Panzer Dragoon Saga has made top 100 game lists of ALL TIME not even just RPG's. You also had Shining Force 3, Dragon Force, & many others like Lunar, Grandia, etc if you count the JP library.
Great cast but boy did Peer struggle to get a word in edge ways at the start 😂
Persona 4 mid mentioned but not peak shin megami tensei nocturne or DIGITAL DEVIL SAGA
Hamptons of Noreath was awsome
Telengard on C64 and the Eye of the Beholder games on PC we’re my early favorites.
Fire Emblem Sacred Stones was the best! The GBA titles were much better than what was to come
Shadowgate on NES! 😄

No Sega Saturn? Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force 3, Shining the Holy Ark, Dark Saviour...
N64 was covered but no Saturn?
What was the ogre battle on PS1? With the big fold out with all characters leveled up pictures etc…..
Scoop! 💜 what a cast!
Elden Ring not an RPG? What a crazy take.
Peer on Gamescoop!!!!!
No Sega Cd mentions for games like Lunar? No Dreamcast either with Sky’s of Arcadia/Phantasy Star online. Nice that Sky’s got a mention with GameCube but would have expected Dreamcast to be covered.

Poor PSP and PS Vita. 😞
The lack of Falcom games is outrageous
Ys Viii and Trails of Cold Steel 3/4 are top tier bangers
No mentions for any From software title tut tut (ARPG is still RPG)
Missing Gregg , Brian and Marty and its Dream team....love it!
We’re going back now. Throw in a bit of Goldfarb or Jarred Petty in there. The cast rotated a lot in those days. 👍👍

Kotor 1 and 2 for sure for the Xbox era.
