Glad it was helpful, Tony!
Thank you so much for his video, this will help me relax and stop the anxiety that I have when I get in the pool. Also thanks for the tip to continue exhaling after your head surface to the top to stop the water from getting in the nose and coughing. This was some of my problems as well.
Thank you so much😊
Glad it was helpful, Indy. Is there anything else you are struggling with right now as far as your swimming goes? Email me ASAP and let me know. Write in the Subject line: 'Freestyle'. So, you never answered my question on this section. How do you expect me to do these sink downs in deep water, with no air in my lungs when the prospect truly terrifies me??
How do you expect to rid me of this terror??
Thank you, I just got back in the water after many many years (70 in December) so my recall well, there wasn't one. This really helped today, I was more comfortable with my breath.
Renee Maldonado - great to hear this helped!!
I now only take five breaths per length in a short-course pool. Two strokes off the wall followed by two breaths every third stroke, five strokes, a breath, five more strokes and two breaths before my flip turn. I can do that for an entire 800M. Only took me 25 years, but I'm there!
I thought it was 25 hours D;

That panic feeling sinks in especially when I'm winded, go to breath and get a mouthful of water. 😩
I can understand 😊
Me tooo.
Thank you for making this step much simpler.
I'm just learning to swim the front crawl AND breathing properly.....this is great help...thank you 😊
Swimming on my back no problem but on my tummy I tend rush my breathing
Thanks for the tips...
Disconnect is the correct word! I thought I was the only one with this problem. I swim with a snorkel and can swim 90 laps. Take off my snorkel and I freak out and it’s like I don’t know how to swim. Thank you for your suggestions, I will give them a try.
Thank you Mike
fantastic tips
Thank you so much! I have surf lessons soon and.. I didn't know how to swim and hopefully I learn by then!!
Good video I’m real struggling with breathing while swimming. I carnt swim, carnt breath, but I’m good at sinking ha.
But, hang on a minute, what if like me feeling absolutely terrified of having no air in your lungs, and sinking down in deep water??? That's so terrifying for me, I DON'T THINK I COULD EVER DO THAT BECAUSE IM SO SCARED OF IT.
How can I overcome this fear?? Pure terror!!
Spend more time in shallow water! At some point you ll naturally decide to give the deep a go
@@alwynpereira7363 I don't think you realise how scared I am...its obviously a fear that I think will remain with me forever....my Dad nearly died in a pool...so that's probably the root cause of it, but I really can't believe that I could be cured of it.
Plus, swimming pools for me these days seem far too cold...really don't like being in cold water either!
@@andrewcullum8437 do excuse me for being insensitive. I meant to encourage. By best wishes to you. I hope you will get over your fear one day and sometime soon.
Great video! Just a quick question. Do we breathe in through mouth? Or nose? Thanks
This video really good. Thank you!

Thank you for these tips.
Thanks, the last one is spooky but I'll try out the first three in succession and the fourth will definitely be last but trying it in front of the ladder (in comments) is a super idea for feeling safe.
Very nice points for begginers thank u very much
It really helped me....thank you so much
When I sink down, I always feel like I’m a deep sea diver.😄😄😄😄😄🏊🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️🏊🏻♂️
Mike: can you recommend one source to target an experienced lousy technique swimmer.? I have been swimming a long time in the slow, if not verry slow lane at my club. I'm sure I'm using some fairly common bad technique. What would be a good source for self coaching to identify and correct technique mistakes? Great video, by the way. Effective, uncluttered, straightforward. - Joe
Can you recommend any tips to swim confidently in the deep end of the swimming pool.
I can swim all strokes in about 1.4 m deep water but more than that I get butterflies in my stomach, so how can I do that.
Thanks in advance.
I concentrated on everything but this. I thought I did everything right but I realised much later that I was still holding my breath a little just before turning and breathing. This was tiring me out. Trust me this seems simple and not important but this is what helped me immensely. I wish I had learnt this before doing anything else.
Happy to hear this was so helpful for you, Jared.
When do I start exhaling, while doing free style swim
I used to be a boxer but quit due to a back injury,so I decided to take swimming as a hobby. Do you think it will be easier on my low back?
i need to practice this in order to swim like a pro..thanx coach...😊
Thanks mike...
When we do freestyle swimming from whear we should take breath , nose or mouth
The third is scary. The fourth is worst even while I'm looking at it. ..... n i always feel I drown before in the past life :( ...... how to help those that really has a fear for drowning ... while looking at the 3rd n 4th, I wonder if I can coke up easily. Is it easily done? Easy to be bounced back up? Or will it b halfway in the water? Thanks
Hi Zeo - give it a try in shallow water where you can easily stand up if you start to feel anxious!
I know what you’re talking about. The answer is you have to discipline your mind to try to stay relaxed when the fear and panic starts to set in. Also, realize that although swimmers make it look easy, it isn’t supposed to be!
Try to do it facing the ladder in front of you while sinking, having smth to hold on gives much more confidence
@@mustaphab.1190 Thank you for the ladder tip, excellent psychology
Thankyou
Why is that water soo clear
my running breathing and my swimming breath are very dissimilar. I don't exhale through my mouth when I run, so when I need to do it in the water, everything has changes regarding the mechanics of breathing.....
Its difficult to head up to breath while freestyle or doggy paddle.
Please kindly guide me to relief from swallowing water while side breathing
U got my point,,,,,,,,,,
Thanks .
Great vid, helps a lot
very help full THANK you
Geras video dekui uz patarimus!
Brilliant .... very very helpful.
Thx!
I’m comfortable in the water but I get out of breath after approx 25-35 meters. It feels like there is a big portion of air left in my lungs when I take the next breath
mikael resare give this a try during your next swim. Tell us how it goes. ruclips.net/video/D1f90DMBV7U/видео.html
Ok, I’ll try it....thanks😀
that's where I'm having problems
Helpful 👍👌
Glad this was helpful for you!
thanks ,its realky useful
but how we can snik easy
Glad this was useful, Nada. Do not be concerned about sinking. As this is an exercise that help you with EXHALING. If you can exhale while your head/face is under water (and inhale while your head is turned to the side), you can learn to swim freestyle and breathe more efficiently . If you need further assistance, email me at mike@swimsmoothlouisville.com. type the word 'Freestyle' in the subject line and let me know how I can help.
Thanks
Hey, I want to learn swimming and have good training on it, where can I find here in Louisville a place to get swimming lessons.
How to turn
i'm a runner, and i'm learning to swim, i can do the exercises you're talking about breathing, but when i try to swim and got tired i can't recover me, and can't breath. Once while i was trying my best, i kind of decide to not breath to be able to go further in the pool, but i got sick and have to go out because it was impossible to me to breath even out of the pool, my oxigen level was too low
When i run, my respiration is faster when i get tired and i do it only from my nose. How can i breath faster under the water when i get tired there?
Luz Zzz practice the bubble breathing.. it will help you a lot..
Thank you...I'll keep trying!
Because when running or cycling we used to inhale and exhale at big amount of air once each. But when swimming we have to exhale in the water precisely not all out at once. And must quick when inhale
Hi, wondering if you can help me find useful swimming you tube videos pls,
新年快乐
🏊🏼♂️
i cant manage my fear in the water, so i never ever cant swim in my life even i love water,
Sinkdowns look scary. How does one master that?
Ravi Sreenivasan you have to be calm and when you need to breath air, just swim calmly to the surface, like in the demonstration.
BlazingFire_07 Trying to do the same with limited success. Thank you.
good coath😜😃
is that tony hawks brother or something?
Breath out in water with nose or mouth
Hi! Thanks a lot! Where can I get the information about swimming?

No reply after 6 months, so obviously, YOU ARE NOT BOTHERED ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE ME.
Know you are not alone when it comes to fear the water. I swim with a snorkel and do a pretty darn good job. Take off the snorkel and instant “I forgot how to swim”.
I’m going to try his suggestions and try to relax doing it if possible. Practice makes perfect. I only learned how to swim 4 months ago. Maybe it will take another 4 months to learn to breathe properly without freaking out. Good luck to you. We can do this!
BUT...what if you have a WATER PHOBIA...TERRIFYING FOR ME TO HAVE MY MOUTH OPEN SO CLOSE TO THE WATER...SINK DOWNS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING FOR ME ESPECIALLY DEEP WATER..DO I NEED HYPNOTHERAPY??
M
This makes me feel so claustrophobic.
You spelled buoyancy incorrectly 😈
