    my old man has the grimspeed top mount on is o5 wrx ive tested it driving at 40kmh around the streets for a period of time and i touch the intercooler and its cool to touch and that was on a 30deg day the splitter helps alot with top mounts i used to be anti top mount but ive seen the light

    I've just had my 5 speed changed for the sti r180 6 speed set-up. It's terrible trying to get it into 1st and 2nd gear when just starting off. The garage says this is normal but I feel like I'm forcing it in

    so Brett is saying that the billet road car will be running an oil/air separator to match the MRT intercooler without the step/"bath"?

    So what in your opinion are TMIC to stay away from. I have a Process west tmic and I have heard nothing but good things and I haven't experienced any problems. Are they an intercooler manufacturer that you believe is a good one? And how do you like the verticooler? I was going to get that one, but decided against it because for the minimal difference it wouldn't be worth it. Plus, I really don't see how changing the direction will benefit the flow. I think the regular top mount position is just as beneficial because the way the air is directing through the hood scoop, allows for air to be pressed against the whole intercooler. Also when you put more of an angle that means the bottom portion will be closer to the motor so more of a chance for heat soak. But what is your professional opinion? Also, anyone else is free to voice your opinion I am interested to hear what others think.

    Ok I have a 2016 STI and I was looking to replace my stock intercooler with a Mishimoto bran and an Air Oil Seperator (AOS) from Perrin is this a good move I am trying to avoid the oil build up in the intercooler

    What about water-cooled intercoolers? Really want to get into this. Regardless of the temp outside, fixed air density going into your engine; that would be sick!

    Would you recommend an air-oil separator to stop that blow by?

    How about top mount with water spray? Is it going to have similar performance as the front mount?

    Black is fine under a bumper but black will absorb heat due to emissivity from the engine when in traffic just like if it sat in the sun one reason why I got a silver process west one if the air in the intercooler is cooler then the engine bay it will heatsoak faster when black if the air inside is hotter it will put air out through the scoop

      Aussie Monster. What i learned in school is that silver paint gets hotter then black paint in the manufacturers torture test paint baking oven.
      Im not positive if that will relate to bare silver metal. But personally, I'd paint the frame of a bare metal intercooler with any color ceramic paint then put heat reflecting tape on it, always keeping it out if detect sunlight.
      Black or silver paint won't retain ambient heat more then one another unless the insulating properties between the two are different. And for a top mount, i cant really imagine a measurable issue.

      How much light do you think is getting on a TMIC through the scoop?
      Pretty close to none I would expect.

    Royal Purple 5w30
    Rotella 5w30
    Motol 5w30
    Liquid Moly 5w30
    Amsoil 5w30
    Subaru 5w30
    I can't buy Nulon oil in America because they dont ship it out of Australia.
    Thanks!

    why not just w2a in top mount location?

  • @KAVINSKY311
    @KAVINSKY311 7 лет назад

    That's why you should be going with a top Mount water to air.

    Brett out of interest are FMIC WRXs more laggy than TMIC when everything else is keep the same?
    The Subaru turbo location always seemed like a bad comprise to me.
    The exhaust port to the turbo distance seem very long and may introduce some lag.
    But this was offset by a short intake.
    But then if you go FMIC, both cold and hot side tracts are quite long.

      as you saw in the video not all intercoolers are created equally. I was once told by a top rally guy that the difference is about 200rpm, his testing on a tuned car, and the difference in temp was roughly 40 degrees(assuming a higher power car that was pushing the stock cooler to it's limit).. That's assuming you have made a nice smooth flowing setup and not some botched up job. Depending on the turbo you can clock them (rotate the compressor housing) to reduce piping/bends, and other things like front facing intake manifolds at the expense of A/C. I've even seen people remove their radiator support and run an intercooler under the grill overtop of the radiator, and also cutting the sheet metal beside the headlights(which I chose for my car) .

    • @DespaceMan
      @DespaceMan 7 лет назад

      Yep front facing intake manifold is the way the go if you want performance, but you lose the A/C. I'm going front facing intake but I would like some A/C so I was thinking of adapting a peltier cooling system I know it wont be good as an A/C but a little bit of cool air is better than none or drive on cool days only hehehe.

    LOL.
    Drop 30000 peso on a billet block and keep stock location turbo and cooler.
