You're right Jocelyn, there IS something about a jar of buttons! I replace buttons on my kid's and husband's clothes at times because they always seem to fall off. I'd probably buy a jar and keep it near my sewing kit.
My grandmother told me before they threw out clothes they used to cut off all the buttons. My grandmother was a seamstress and used them when she made clothes and my doll clothes.
Of course they did! Just because your smallclothes developed a hole in the bum is no reason to chunk away perfectly good buttons that could go onto another union suit. Buttons cost money!
I would love to start a Jeanette Iris and Herringbone Collection. My Mother was so proud of all her Iris and Herringbone pieces. As a young lady she would help take care of her nieces and nephew and in return her sister would give her a piece she didn’t have.
I want the buttons… I love looking through them. I wish I would have saved mine and my kids and grands over the years. I do have some of grandma’s and my mom’s. Fun and great jars and a good price.

To get the discoloration off of old porcelin, hit a real beauty supply store. Buy high-test hydrogen peroxied. Let the item soak in it overnight; the soak should turn brown and the piece should be whiter. Not recommended for the really fragile stuff or anything held together with glue, but it works. Takes the tea stains out of teacups.
I don't understand how your Goodwill pricing is so drastically different. I'm in PNW, and I swear those milk glass pieces would have been priced at $9.99, at minimum! It's kinda mind blowing
I’ve seen them used sometimes on coats. It’s probably to protect the fabric, otherwise the threads might go through due to the weight of the outside button.
At 5:21, I'm wondering if the jack-o-lantern was interchangeable to go with the cover and underplate immediately to its left. The jack-o-lantern cover could be used in October and then the clear glass cover in September and November.
“Stroud’s” is not a name from someone but it means syrup.🤗 It is so funny,I am 68 and I used to play with all the buttons my mother had collected for many years..😄
I think that long box of little rectangular ceramic-like things are for the old gas heaters that are in the wall. We had one growing up, and those sit in front of the flame and hold the heat. Could be wrong…but that’s what I think!
Hope you are better today. Yesterday’s sale was epic. Great things at this Goodwill. I love milk glass and the buttons. Would love to see a booth video. I was at a different Goodwill today, same region, and saw the same milk glass for 9.99.
They were called under wear buttons because they were put on the underside of cloth when sewing on buttons, especially large buttons.
I’ve seen them used sometimes on coats. It’s probably to protect the fabric, otherwise the threads might go through due to the weight of the outside button.
Oh, that makes sense!
