Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on inside their head? Disney•Pixar’s original new film “Inside Out” ventures inside the mind to find out.
Based in Headquarters, the control centre inside 11-year-old Riley’s mind, five Emotions are hard at work, led by lighthearted optimist Joy (voice of Amy Poehler), whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (voice of Bill Hader) heads up safety, Anger (voice of Lewis Black) ensures all is fair and Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned-both physically and socially. Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith) isn’t exactly sure what her role is, and frankly, neither is anyone else.
When Riley's family relocates to a scary new city, the Emotions are on the job, eager to help guide her through the difficult transition. But when Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley’s mind-taking some of her core memories with them-Fear, Anger and Disgust are left reluctantly in charge. Joy and Sadness must venture through unfamiliar places-Long Term Memory, Imagination Land, Abstract Thought and Dream Productions-in a desperate effort to get back to Headquarters, and Riley.
Directed by Academy Award winner Pete Docter ("Monsters, Inc.", "Up"), produced by Jonas Rivera, p.g.a. ("Up"), co-directed by Ronnie Del Carmen (“Up”) and featuring an original score by Michael Giacchino ("The Incredibles," "Ratatouille," "Up"), Disney•Pixar's "Inside Out" opens in UK cinemas on July 24, 2015.

Pixar’s “Inside Out” took the unique concept of exploring human
emotions via characters that were actual human emotions: Joy, Fear,
Anger, Disgust and Sadness. It’s this last one that pulled at every
moviegoer’s heartstrings. Sadness was voiced by soft-spoken Phyllis Smith,
best known for her role as Phyllis on “The Office.” As “Inside Out”
played, Sadness became the emotion that Riley had to reconcile with the
most. Smith’s vocal inflection is a mix of despair, impending loss and
heartbreak. And Smith did this without utilizing things most actors have
at their disposal, such as body language and facial expressions.
Should an award be handed out for just a voice? We think so, and to
Smith.

the voice casting for this movie was absolutely flawless! The actors talk, act, and even dress like their characters! !

I find that Pete, among all the other Pixar directors, is the most capable in producing some of the most humanising and intriguing animations. My next favourite would be Andrew Stanton.

I wonder what triggered the decision to make Disgust's hair shorter. My guess is that it was easier to animate.
I feel like it makes her look a lot more prim and proper and it suits her character more if that makes sense?
shorter hair gives her hair more movement, not only that but they are trying to make her sassy, the little up curves at the end of her hair give more of that look and with short hair its easier to see that's my guess
Maybe if the emotions are supposed to have a shape of something that represents them (Joy - a star, Anger - a brick, Fear - a nerve, Sadness - a teardrop), I think that for Disgust it was broccoli and the shape was more noticable with her having short hair.

Mitzi the evil ferret it is not just easier to animate, it’s 150x easier. Often a team of 4 or more is required just to animate hair on a large production like Disney

Penguining the pengunization of the random fact: Inside out has 45 storyboard makers, animators and all, half of the average number of about 100 per team. Yes, it requires less people compared to Hollywood Films, it's mostly of a computer's work, but here's a fact. Everyone can act, that 10,000 people can all act, it is easy, but can all of them animate?

When i was a little kid i used to pronounce Bill Hader's name as Had-urr. It wasn't until I watched an ad for inside out when i realized his name was pronounced as Hay-der.
