I just wanted to say thank you for these videos. I used your videos to help lead me through a lift install on my 1997 80 series. Even using a floor jack and jackstands, I was able to do the entire process in about 3 1/2 hours.
Thank you for taking your time making this video. Very detail. I myself own a 1996 j80 for 25yrs. And is time to give her something back for the years of service it provided for us. Your videos will help me and others to look forward and work on it. Thanks again
When pressing out/in control arm bushings….using some heat from a torch really helps. Just make sure to move the torch all the way around the outside of the control arm bushing hole.
@ 6:42. There might be a place on the frame and the lower part swing where you can use a small jack to push out for clearance for the new spring. I enjoy your videos. Appreciate you.
Awesome video, I love the fact that you didn’t edit your video and showed the all the flaws, that makes us human :). Keep up the grate work and content!
Just did the rear yesterday following your video. The bottom bolt was the easiest thing to come over. It was almost effortless! Now onto the front.
Just did the front install yesterday and it was a cinch compared to the rear! It took about 1.5 hours for both, doing it alone. For the driver side upper nut, I used a non deep socket 17mm and then put a swivel + long extension to an electric impact. I then used a big vice grip to grip the dust cover. The swivel was maybe half way in (Could not use a deep 17mm). It came off with ease after a couple short bursts from the electric impact. Once the sway bar was loosened, the shock just dropped! Turns out, my driver side shock had no nut at the bottom and half of the stud broke off (It looked super rusty), so it was not connected to the big hole. Yikes.
What a great set of videos on the front Nd rearmate. Thanks so much!
I want an 80 series some day
I have one for sale....with lockers!! ;-)
Nigel Naughton
I just bought 01 LC and 02 lx 470
I have to wait! Haha
haha...I think you are set for a while..nice rigs!
Nigel Naughton I hope so!!

Great video, about to throw the same kit on my 80 series!
Great video! Thanks for posting it.
Do you have another video about fzj80 steering gear box.
Does changing the SHIMS in the vertical hub bearings affect the castor?
Nope, the shims only affect bearing preload and axle centering.
is what your calling a Pan Hard rod the Toyota pt # 48740A? I am getting my parts list for my 97 Landcruiser together. just going back OEM. if it lasted 25 yrs doing what i do with it its good enough for me.
I was wondering where you placed the jack to raise the front of the truck from the start. Also, which piece is the radius arm and does this have to be loosened to replace the shock only. Thanks in advance!
We put the lift arms right behind the radius arm bracket to lift it. Doing it on the floor you'd jack from the axle on each side and jackstand under the frame. You don't need to loosen the radius arms to do the shocks. The radius arm is the link going from the axle to the frame on each side.
hello where can i buy the lift kit for 1996 Toyota land cruiser
Sweet I know know how to install lift kit in my driveway!!😂 Thank you 😀
good video but can you put the canmera somewhere so you aren't between the camera and what you are doing
Do you use anti-seize on the nuts and bolts? I find it works amazing especially if you are anywhere near the rust belt. Will you do a ride update with that suspension set up? Trying to decide on the slinkys or the Dobinsons. 2" would be nice.
The shock bolts get antisieze. The control arm bolts all got red locktite as we torqued them.
if you loosen the frame side bushings before the spring install you will find that the suspension becomes alot easier to deal with; it should be reset anyways as part of the lift procedure to center the bushing in its rotation (all bushings should be left slightly loose until the weight of the vehicle is on the tires, then torque them to spec). also, you put the ratchet strap on the wrong direction for install of the panhard rod.
Yeah, it's easier to do the bushings first. You can't get to them on the lift I was using. They got reset when I did the radius arms in the next video.
@@OTRAMM i wondered about that. i usually don't torque the suspension until the vehicle is sitting on the alignment rack.
@@jbcowherder6210 We torque them once it's back on the ground and we've settled it some. Wish I had a drive on rack for stuff like that😁
Great channel for owners of the 80 series have LX 450 1996 and am changing out the front shocks. Is it as simple as undoing the 2 bolts/shock without any restraint on springs or removing the front wheels.Your advice greatly appreciated.
Yep, it's just pulling the nuts off of the shock studs top and bottom. It's easiest with the wheel off and the axle drooped but you can do it with the wheel on and the truck on the ground.
@@OTRAMM Thank you glad I found your channel when is your next chat stream?
@@inver22wade3 if I can get the new software working we should be back to our normal chat schedule Tuesday at 6PM EST.
how did you loosen the bolt for the driver side panhard rod bolt/nut? I only have a 22mm deep socket but I might give a shallow one a try
I honestly don't remember. Likely a regular 22 socket.
@OTRAMM yup I was able to fit a regular 22mm socket.
Cool video! Thanks for sharing
AWESOME VIDEO
Very good video thanks for sharing
What castor plates were used? And what lift slinkys were these? 75mm? Looking at doing the same, but looks like 5 degree plates are too much castor?
I don't remember which they were. I think 75mm slinky's and I want to say 4 degree plates but I'm not positive.
Question my front lower passenger side shock mount rusted off ? What do you suggest I do. Trying to find a part to weld to axle or suspension bar
I'd try and find a complete front housing. If one mount rusted off the others likely aren't far behind.
Do you need an adjustable pinhard rod if you are putting a 3" lift on it?
You'll be a bit off center, maybe 1/2" or so. Probably not enough that you'll really notice.
Thanks for getting back to me on this. Would getting one help and if install how can I figure out the center or how long to set it at?
@@hmongamerican5080 yes it would help. You can use Trig to get a rough idea of length for your lift. Beyond that you just keep adjusting until the axle is centered.
Thanks a lot!
@@OTRAMM what's the easiest way to adjust the axle, especially if you don't have a lift?
Thanks. V useful
Awesome
Leaning slinky for my 80, are you still happy with it? I'm looking for around 2" of lift to fit 295/75r16 (33.5") BFG
Hi, Can you install those tires without lift it?
@@daslangroupremodelingsolut2332 check out ih8mud
im putting a 3 inch lift in my hzj80 wagon..what stuff do i need to keep the diff in a straight line.
You'll need either adjustable panhard bars or the Delta panhard bracket. The shop you get the kit from should have a complete set up.
Are you sure that you have put the springs in correct way and not other way around?
Yes
I don't think they'll even fit upside down.
what inch lift is being installed on the video? 4inch?
I'm not sure. The customer brought the lift. I want to say 3" but I'm not positive.
Can i get away with not extending my brake lines for a week untill they come in the mail ?
Where are you located so you can help with my truck? Thanks
We're in Bealeton, VA. About an hour outside of Washington, DC.
Hi! what did you torque your panhard bolts to??
The front is 127 foot pounds at both ends. Rear is 130 foot pounds at the frame and 181 foot pounds at the axle.
@@OTRAMM Thanks very much :)
What springs are these?
They're "Slinky" springs. I believe Endless Horizon Outfitters are the guys importing them. They are nice.
Poor Crash 🤣
I need a crash right now🤭🤭🤭
lol, literally why I came inside from the garage to see how he did this part
