severa jones we have always been bad, they invaded us for 22 years after we became independent from Spain, after 22 years we became independent of them. That has a lot to do with why we Dominicans do not want the Haitians in large numbers in our country. we are a country of 10.8 million inhabitants. We have 800,000 Haitians and most of them are illegal and we do not like that at all. since many are dedicated to doing bad things besides crossing the border illegally. And that is why we do not like Haitians, many countries think that it is racism because they are completely descendants of Africans and we are of different races. We just want to maintain our autonomy and culture. I hope it helped you something.
By the way, this never gets mentioned, but Dominicans don't consider ourselves white either. Our genetic makeup is about 20-40% African and 50-60% Spaniard, and a little indigenous. So most of us consider ourselves mixed. Which is correct. In USA culture they have this racist 1-drop-rule mentality, in order for whites to feel superior to anyone who isn't pure white. But that makes the black race look cheap and easy to replicate, and I don't think black americans should subscribe to that mentality, it's honestly an insult to black people.
As a Dominican and mix person that's I try to explain my Americans friends, we are a mix country black, taino and white, we now just exist 3 or four different races in the world but as a mix country we can just represent one and forget the rest.
