Totally agree. If they not willing to pay the element that puts butts in seats, then they can do without it. Let the hondas and espns etc see how many tickets they can sell when we start turning down these events to do our own. The problem is if only one or two says no, there's someone who will say yes because they need the exposure. It has to be done in solidarity. Nobody ever showed up to a battle of the bands event because they like raising canes. They show up for the bands
You hit the nail on the head. There’s always that “MVSU” black person or black organization who goes against the grain for what they believe is their own personal gain. They don’t give a damn about the HBCU culture or HBCUs standing in solidarity for what they believe in, supporting each other. They’re more interested in self preservation and elevation. We struggle with coming together even against racist white conservatives. Let that sink in. We can’t even stand together against that. That is our unique issue and I think everyone else in America has already peeped this about black Americans, the black community are the last to figure it out.
HBCU band programs deserved to be paid for thier worth. I've seen concert bands that had worse, antequated equipment than the school I assist for. AND THE BAND WAS PUT ON NATIONAL TV! There is money being made that these bands are not getting. Pay these bands, get smaller bands, or just get a bunch of tickets and get your audience to one of these HBCU games.
I feel the same. HBCU Bands almost need to set a "Union Scale" price to garner respectful compensation for our craft. Even if bands set the scale by size collectively. But that just might be a dream.
speaking on HBCU Band; it's almost if it HBCU bands are desperate for exposure, especially when it comes to being in attendance at white spaces, like Roses parade and Macy's etc. I remember as a child the Bud Billiken Parade out of Chicago, Illinois that celebrates African American culture was a BIG thing for us, plus it was televised.
The solution to that is to put on our own events. That solution lies with us. Can't blame them for performing at things like the Macy's and Rose parade when there's no equivalent alternative. We have mlk parade, but the bands participating aren't getting compensated like that
I agree, and they _are_ getting desperate, and it’s because this new generation of bandheads think this is some popularity contest. Everyone wants bragging rights for 5th quarter comment section banter. Some of our HBCUs have completely lost their focus. Some never had it due to their poor or inconsistent leadership.
1) A band sets their schedule for non-school events, so if they know they don't have funds, don't accept the invitation. 2) ESPN paid travel expenses for the bands participating. 3) The band has to APPLY to be in the Macy's, Tournament of Rose's, and Mardi Gras parades. So if you KNOW you don't have the funds to go, DON'T APPLY FOR ENTRANCE.
Feels like a setup, just like what happen at SU.
SU wasn't a setup. Haymer is a good dude, but he admitted he fckd up
Prayers for him. I’m drained by mess
Playing for him!!

This is extremely spot on!
This is nothing but the truth!

Did TSU ever get their fair amount of money from the state? They were said to be giving the University of Tennessee money allocated for TSU.
From what I'm to understand, no
I saw this last night as was like, "I know what Luke will be talking about tomorrow.". 😎

@@majichipbone and they have to pay to attend Macy's and Rose. The Mardi gras is another great parade, but 15 miles is like the Olympics of parades. 😆
