'Paris street in rainy weather' was simply ethereal, peaceful and calming. Simply beautiful! What an amazing painting! And yes, the 'Café terrace at night' by Van Gogh is mesmerizing! It has some unusual, unexplainable, feel to it. 'The sleeping gypsy' was quite heart stopping. 'The wanderer above the sea of fog' gives you a sense of anxiety. 'The flower carrier' has a certain juxtaposition with flowers, its weight and the man being heavily loaded and burdened due to it. Thank you so much for this wonderful video.

Interesting and lovely selection; i know most of them, having had a real education, but there were also some new ones. Many thanks -- including the portrait of Van Gogh without a beard, which I don't think I've ever seen.
One name that I would want to suggest for another such collection is any work by Stevan Dohanos, if you are including Norman Rockwell as illustrator; SD's work was far more interesting, and with more profound view of and love for the USA life at that time. His parents Hungarian immigrants on the "wrong side of the tracks" [sic] in steel making Ohio, he iliustrated the famous Grapes of Wrath, for one, and became the person who chose the art for America's stamps for many years, using it to support and launch many young artists. A great artist AND great hearted man, not always together in this world.

Of course there are so many to choose from. I would have included two Monet masterpieces, The Magpie and Garden a Ste. Address. In the first, the cold is palpable, the whole scene is beautifully rendered, and I love the lone bird of the title on his own. The latter, you can feel the wind blowing, so alive.

I am always enchanted when I see ‚Sergents Lady Agnew of Lochnaw‘ (10:55) and right after it ‚Nighthawks‘ of my favorite painter. I wish there would be more of Hopper and Waterhouse, but otherwise a beautiful collection. The only paintings I didn’t know yet were ‚The Gross Clinic‘ of Thomas Eakins (4:46) and ‚Christina’s World‘ of Andrew Wyeth (6:07), both pretty impressive in their own way.

i worked in the nyc art scene for years.
one day my pop told me to deliver a frame to a gallery on 59th, but dont touch anything when you get there,j just deliver the huge frame.
the dealer, anxious as a bedbug, and quite visibly so , says to me, my client will be here in 3 hours, where have you been etc, and then says to me , " ok, fit the piece " . i said, i cant do that etc etc...he said , ill give you $300 to fit the piece, and im like, ok, and out comes a diego velasquez measuring about 72x48. i gulp for air. i remind myself its no different than anything else, really, and proceed to clear space on the red carpet, moving ornate chairs and tables about the room,, as his fitting room was a mere closet. so , i ask for tools and hardware, proceed as usual , fit the art properly , as usual, smile , collect . Great set! Of course, it`s difficult to make such a compilation from all the times and art styles. You`ve done a great job! But I feel the lack of Chagall, Delacroix, Georges de La Tour, Toulouse-Lautrec, Francois Boucher, Cezanne and many Russian artists like Surikov, Ivanov, Bryullov, Vastetsov. A lot of Van Gogh but too little of Salvador Dali. But I like it anyway)

Exactly. The Battle of Issus for instance has such a landscape that I wondered how big it was, but is not that big after all. Guernica in the other hand does not look big and it is enormous. I also agree with you about The ninth wave unprecedented beauty.

This is another form of art that impresses me and excites me. Painting is the visual art that captures the imagination of both the horizontal and vertical thinkers, though it is time consuming to do and entails more work ethics, once a masterpiece was achieve, it's worth the time and catching, money.

Its a great list.Obviously, Da Vinci and Michelangelo stand out. After those two,it really becomes very subjective, very hard to select best artists in descending order. You can really only pick personal favorites after Da Vinci/Michelangelo.I would choose Mantegna,Van Gogh,,Caravaggio,Vermeer, Manet,Degas,Cezanne,Bronzino,Modigliani and Klimt.
As far as greatest paintings go I would select 1.Dead Christ Mantegna 2.The Last Supper Da Vinci 3.Sistine Chapel Michelangelo 4.Mona Lisa Da Vinci 5.Portrait of Lucrezia Panciatichi Bronzino 6.Cardsharps Caravaggio 7.Potato Eaters Van Gogh 8.Folie Bergere Manet 9.Girl with a Pearl Ear ring Vermeer 10.The Kiss Klimt
Most over-rated for me personally might be Picasso and Dali, although both are undoubtedly great artists.
