    Here in the far northern part of Cali, people without grid tied solar and battery are paying the power company 4 hundred dollars a month and more just trying to stay cool. Can't imagine what will happen when everyone begins to plug their vehicles in as well!

    Hi Bob, we used to have to run our generator once each week in winter untill we put up some more panels. It was more panels or cut down some shade trees. We have 600ah of lithium and 2500w of panels and live off grid running all mod cons just not all at once. Life is good down here in sunny South Australia. Enjoying your content. Thanx for sharing.

      I just added panels instead of cutting trees myself. Doing just fine. Glad you're doing well buddy! Aloha!🤙

    Looks great . Some new battery's coming out. Zinc ION . They figured how to make the old Carbon-Zinc battery into a ION rechargeable. Just building the factory to make them now. Newer LiFePO4 getting to market now. Smaller ! and soon lots more cycle life. Some starting batteries (LiFePO4) out now. NOCO has some. Getting one for gas scooter . Won't be long now. No more lead acid starting battery . Ryobi has inverter generator like the Honda but has Bluetooth and electric start from one plus 18V Li-ION battery the tools take. Great stuff hitting the market now and soon. Time to rethink how we use power and battery now. And testing has been done on the Mini 100AH LiFePO4 . It is true power AH . The RV people love them. Just insulate them . Even the cold temp ones. You do not want them to shut off when you need them. Great protection they have . stop charging in cold. Some times you have to charge in cold. Just insulate them. and they make heated type . Problem solved.

      It's going to stay an exciting time with all the new stuff coming out. We will always have the old ways to remember how it used to be, and just how great it is now! Aloha Roberto!🤙

    Very nice Bob !
    Easy transition from one day to the next.
    Question: What happened to the 4 100 AH mixed battery equaling 48 Volts experiment? My understanding was that it was going to be deployed into an everyday power supply.
    Aloha my friend 🤙

      Mahalo Andy! I don't keep much gas around anymore. I just don't need it. Maybe a few gallons stored for worst case. I start the generator every now and then just to keep it lubed up is all. Aloha!🤙

      No one seems to be in agreement about the 80% charge for LIP vs ion. Personally, for storage over a few weeks, i run mine down to 80-85%. For my LIP batteries that I use on a regular basis like at least once a week, I keep fully charged.

      @@donbrloks3959 it seems to me it takes a lot of effort and power to get the last 20 also most auto EV recommend charge to 80. It also runs up the cycle count 😁

    • @offgridwanabe
      @offgridwanabe 3 дня назад +1

      @@donbrloks3959 I may use the term 80% but what I actually do is charge to the point where the capacity is mostly full and the current drops off it actually is about 90%.

    bob what size battery montro do i need 75 amp or 100 amp?

    • @Gary-wh7ce
      @Gary-wh7ce 3 дня назад +1

      You need to know your load and voltage to answer this question. 3000 watts / 12volts = 250 amp, so a minimum 300 amp shunt for monitoring. Victron Energy just released a 300 amp smart shunt for $71 US. Gary in SE Michigan

    • @dheller777
      @dheller777 3 дня назад +1

      Your arrays do much better than mine. I have an 800 watt array with a Victron 150/70 controller with a 4000-watt Giandel inverter and two 300 ah Litime lipo4 batteries. My panels never deliver much more than 450 watts to the controller, even on a full dunny day. I only have one freezer as a load on that system. I turn on the inverter early in the morning and shut it off about an hour or 2 after dark as the batteries are down to about 13.3 volts at that time. I might have enough battery power to run 24/7, but with the batteries being that low at about 8 pm, I don't know if I might run them to low before good sun the next day.
