Yep, it's officially pronounced "Gladys" but as most fans pronounce it "Glados" and "Gladys" when honestly, it's just a woman's memori- basically a core that controls aperture.

They were called fizzlers during development.

Tier 3 is actually the Portal technology. When Cave Johnson became ill, he developed a three tiered plan, the first two of which were horrible failures. The first tier was to prevent people from receiving the Heimlich maneuver when choking, the 2nd tier was to buy wishes from terminally ill children who were part of the 'make a wish' program, and the third, of course, was portals.

Surprise that you missed the fact you can find the cake before the end credits. I haven't played it for a while, but there is a part after the test chambers where you can jump down the metal structure into the depths of the Aperture Science basement, where you are greet by lots of empty cores and the cake. Just remember to leave a portal open at the top cos you can't climb back up!

Betty was going to be a device that looked like a core strapped to a desk lamp on wheels, which would roll into the test chamber and say that Aperture is not able to be sued if you die or get injured in the test chamber. It was also only planned in the beta stages Portal 2. And the fact that GLaDOS was created by Cave Johnson's scientists and contained Caroline is only discovered in Portal 2, again.

In the game Terraria, there is a companion cube pet.
As a homage to the games line: "the companion cube will not threaten to stab you," if in complete darkness with the companion cube active in the pet slot, the player will take 1 damage put of nowhere, as the companion cube has stabbed them.
