  • Want some top tips on how to sew beautiful, even gathers? Well, look no further, we've got you covered.
    Gathering is a sewing technique that pops up in loads of different sewing projects. Put simply, gathering involves reducing the width of one piece of fabric so it can be joined to another piece. You'll often see this in skirts and dresses where flowy skirts are gathered to join a waistband or bodice.

    THANK YOU for this concise and clear video. I have no patience for fifteen-minute videos with lots of talking.

    I’m mind-blown at how easy you made this look and how easy it was to do. Thank you 🎉❤

    This one video shows what others take 2 or 3 videos to explain. Thank you!!

    first time gatherer here! was wondering how to get it the right length. Well this makes an entire heap of common sense I was missing LOL - floundering around for an hour last night faffing with a tape measure and getting annoyed! Once you see someone else do it it's so obvious isn't it! Thanks!

      So can you tell how much excess fabric we need to get perfect measurements after gathered sewing. ?

    • @5h4mp00
      @5h4mp00 3 месяца назад

      Depends on how much you want to gather. Could be 2times or 4times the 'normal' length you'd need. Depends on the pattern or your liking. If you search for 'how much fabric for gathering' there should be pictures showing the differences.

    Hi,
    Thanks for detailed video!
    But one question... The stitched end is fraying how do we make it clean?

    Thanks for all the tips. I'm making a dress with a similar structure to this one and I really don't know about a good way to hem/finish up the raw hem inside. My material is really thin and frays very easily so I don't want to leave it undone. Do you know a good way to finish it up without making it too bulky? Thanks again!

      How about a rolled hem. You might need an attachment for your sewing machine in order for you to do it. Practice first on a same scrap piece of fabric of garment you are making. Good luck 🙂

      @@katzwhite5962 Thanks! I ended up switching it up a little and instead of a gather I made sort of pleads, this one I could handle better. But I'll definitely use your tips in the future!

    I've made this dress now but my gathers keep moving around. I've stiched over them twice with a stitch length of 2.5. I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong?

    Thanks so much! I have a dress similar to this but somehow the waist is elastic. Any tips for making the gathers elastic?

      I’m assuming that you’re talking about shirring. If that’s the case, then I happen to know a tutorial for that: ruclips.net/video/rPp6Nn4mmYk/видео.html

      I've been looking for that too! I'm just guessing, but i think they make an elastic casing, or stretch out the elastic while sewing which gives a sort of gathered look? Sorry if i'm wrong!
