"he manages to get himself out of bounds unexpectedly just by holding backwards..... Sometimes it's just that easy". Looks like we all owe Ready Player One an apology.
A casual streamer called Zephyr recently played through the last of us and completely skipped a long and brutal fight in the sewer system place, just before the area with the sniper's house. This happened just in December. I have no idea if there's an active community on it but its defo a find. Footage is on her youtube channel, but i'll describe it below too. She did it at the start of the fight by doing the following all at the same time: - Being attacked/killed by a runner, - Killed by a clicker - Killing that same clicker with an upgraded melee weapon. The camera glitched out of bounds, then a second later all he enemies were gone and a blood patch appeared on the ground where the action took place, and the characters moved on.
I used to follow that streamer a lot. Its an in-joke based on a comment he got on one of his Sonic 06 speedruns on youtube (either that or a glitch showcase). The guy didn't know how to speak english well and was trying to ask how to properly record Sonic 06 on his PS3 while keeping the recording quality high. The comment ended with that infamous quote which has been on the bottom of his stream ever since...

A lot of old games do this due to the memory limitations of the old consoles. Since you're never actually supposed to see it they can use that memory elsewhere
I was thinking it was that the spawn point was slightly clipped into the wall. If you move forward and then back, it doesn't work. (I'm the guy in that clip.)

@@Linkums It's probably that then, with the level designer just doing barebones testing of "I don't get stuck in the wall, and I can play the level, done" and not realising you can just walk backwards.
An idea for the Dynamite Headdy glitch - this may have been caused by the Genesis keeping certain contents of RAM, therefore leading to a glitchy side effect. Something similar is possible with the Sonic games - if you get into debug mode in S2 and then unplug the cart, put S3 in, and then hit reset, the game keeps the fact that a debug menu was active and actually lets you access debug in S3. Just a hunch.
Awesome stuff. Even ended up covering more of the Cadence of Hyrule Ganon Quick Kill than I had expected! :) To give people an idea of how unlikely it was for Rat to actually have this happen: The game spawns random enemies during the ecounter. You had to specifically get a bomb fairy and a fire wizzrobe to spawn. The wizzrobe had to burn something adjacent to the bomb fairy. (as hitting it directly would just blow it up) The burn also had to apply at a very specific beat in relation to when you do the last hit on Ganon during Phase 1 or 2. The bomb fairy then had to be right next to the stage as it blew up. For all of this to align by mistake is pretty miraculous, and just one month after the game came. I don't think anyone ever replicated this, even while actively trying to do so. Explanation of bow method for those curious: In the game there's this tech called "Bow Cancel", where you through some method cancel the bow so that it is fired by itself. When you bow cancel, the bow is fired, but the arrow does not travel anywhere, only hitting the tile right in front of you, hence why you have to hug the stage. Prior to patch 1.1.0 (released December 18th), bow cancel had the side-effect of hitting targets at any height. If it wasn't for this glitch, setting things up would have required several additional items & a lot of setup to get the player up to the same height as Ganon. When a cutscene starts you will automatically Bow Cancel since you lose control of the character. So the bow is fired after cutscene starts, before it is Ganon's turn, hitting Ganon from below, killing him. The footage shown in the video where there is a big fireball traveling towards the stage is actually of a 4th method, using Din's Fire. It works like the bottled Bomb Fairy method, but uses Zelda's L ability (Din's Fire) instead. Key difference is that you had to get hit while channeling Din's Fire so that it starts moving toward the stage by itself, as normally you'd control it. It was the go-to method for almost 3 months.

During his first playthrough of the game, he fell OOB repeatedly in certain spots then looked to replicate it later on (really long playthrough that's on RUclips, notable instance of this would be about an hour and a half into the third part of his playthrough). The previous WR had no OOB skips in it iirc, but Lobosjr (and his chat/community on Twitch) managed to find 4 different points in the game where OOB could be helpful and consistent. While OOB, walls aren't fully loaded but items typically are (with some exceptions, due to old-school PS2 loading triggers). Best of all, though, is that the doorways and triggers for loading into new zones are typically still reachable, and you can effortlessly fall back in bounds as long as you walk over a loaded path and fall in from the ceiling. While the game isn't very competitive (a scrub like me actually holds WR while using an unorthodox route), it's hilarious that the OOB skips were found on accident, multiple times, and then allowed for Lobosjr to achieve WR times on his first or second run of the game once they were honed to be consistent. The entire game is a beautiful mess. The US version has a line of dialogue in a cutscene that cuts short, the voice acting is peak "2001 bad voice acting", the visuals are dated as all hell, and the story is a convoluted mess; but somehow the only real jank in the game is being able to have enemies brute force you through gaps/corners in the walls. Honestly, really fun game to play though and easy to get into running, if you have time for a run that's over an hour, imo. Most of the difficulty just comes from understanding the few necessary bossfights, movement, knowing how to setup OOB skips, knowing the route, and menuing.
It's insane to see how even now, ocarina of Time still has secrets that are being discovered. I wasn't sure if there was a speed run that incorporated wrong warp in Majora's mask, but it'll be cool to see where the code editing takes it
It would have been helpful to just display the runner name and game on the entire screen before each clip. Some of the runner names are really hard to guess the spelling and it took me a while to notice that the runner names were being briefly overlayed in the upper left.

The amount of times confused people said "hello" as a response to what's happening is kinda funny
I accidentally discovered a skip to 2020 during my 2010's decade speedrun
It's insane to see how even now, ocarina of Time still has secrets that are being discovered. I wasn't sure if there was a speed run that incorporated wrong warp in Majora's mask, but it'll be cool to see where the code editing takes it
It would have been helpful to just display the runner name and game on the entire screen before each clip. Some of the runner names are really hard to guess the spelling and it took me a while to notice that the runner names were being briefly overlayed in the upper left.

You've done it. You've finally done it.
You've gotten me to disable ads on my phone. That was ridiculous!
Congrats on Icarly WR !!!!!!!
I love how everyone's reaction to finding a glitch is to yell out "hello" like some puppet master behind the strings is pulling a fast one on them, haha
nobody:
the speedrunners: Hello?
Yes! Actual explanations! (please fwd to Glad Jonas with byline: 'Nope. Zero idea what i just saw there, but i'll take it on trust that it was skilfull/surpising/unusual'.)
Stop saying "Hello" when a glitch happens 2020
"hello? I had to report a accidental skip moment"
Comments section is rife with angst, lol.

Ass
Why call a human filth? Kind of odd insulting your own species.
Hello? What? Hello? This is so weird. Hello? Hello? What? Wow. Hello? Hello?
