  • The recent tragic suicide of primary school head teacher, Ruth Perry, following an Ofsted inspection has sparked a debate about the effectiveness and impact of school inspections. While some argue that inspections are necessary for accountability, others believe they can be a source of stress and anxiety for teachers.
The former head of Ofsted, Amanda Spillman, defended the inspections, stating the importance of holding schools accountable for the well-being of children. However, there are calls for reform in the inspection process to ensure a more collaborative approach.
The discussion around Ofsted inspections raises important questions about the role of accountability in education. Steve Chalke, founder of the OASIS Trust, which oversees 52 academies in England, emphasizes the need for regulation and inspection in schools. He acknowledges the stress that inspections can induce but underscores the importance of accountability in ensuring quality education for students.

My kids have left school. If I did I again then wouldn’t of gone. All it did was fill their heads with bollox.

In the private sector, everyone's performance is assessed. Why does the public sector, which the private sector pays for, think that they shouldn't be assessed?
In the private sector, the customer can easily change brand or just not buy the product. From this, market leading suppliers gain recognition from potential customers. In the public sector, there is little enough choice as it is, and there is no publicly available information on their success regarding customer satisfaction apart from exam results and Ofsted reports.
So how can the customer choose the best supplier for the education of their children?
Of course politicised, shirker teachers want to avoid being found out for not doing the jobs, that they we pay them for, very well.
Ofsted are a defence against these otherwise unemployable activists.
By all means tighten up the Ofsted criteria to ensure schools deliver well educated, employable children, but dropping inspections is a hard no.

Not just that, one of the teachers primary jobs is to assess people. This is all because they know nothing about the real world, or they are hiding something.

Teachers are voting with their feet - almost 10% of Teachers leave the professional every year, to retire, change career or drop down to TA status. The job IS more stressed than ever, but a questions has to be ; what is the calibre of person Entering the profession ? Take the following as truth ; I know of 2 new teachers who've quit the profession after THE FIRST TERM !!! I find that pathetic tbh. I also know of an under-graduate who did not know when the 2nd World War was. Is the solution higher wages ? Perhaps. But some sort of psychometric test might help too.

Think schools/colleges/universities should have more inspections considering the last couple of generations they have churned out , could do with a few more male role models in our classrooms as well .

Hypocrisy of these teachers...they expect the kids to be tested...but not themselves...

    • @stephencartledge8622
      @stephencartledge8622 3 месяца назад +1

Teachers do not expect kids to be tested. The whole testing system is flawed and children should be judged in primary schools on the progress made not whether they pass a test in year 6. Unless you are in a school people have no idea about the pressures that are put on teachers in school that have nothing to do with children's learning. They come in for two days (at the most) and think they can make a judgment about what has gone on the previous few years. It is a nonsense.

because teachers are children who have never left school and never grow up.. most of them arnt even very good at the job. All they have to do is teach the same thing year after year. after a bit of experience, how hard can it be.

yes. I've been to school and could count the good teachers on one hand. And they were the teachers that came to teaching later. The career teachers are pretty much like career politicians.

I saw a funny meme recently contrasting the Teachers of today with those of 30+ years ago; Picture 1 of a respectable lady addressing her class " Welcome back Class 2. Hope you had a nice Easter Break. Today, we're going to learn about Maths". Picture 2 of a pink haired angry 'woman ; "Welcome back. Today I'm going to teach you about my gender, sexual desires and my politics !!!!" I'ts only half a joke......many Teachers today really ACTIVISTS.

Most tutors don't mind ofsted visits. The silly amount of paperwork and box ticking is what stresses them out. Most tutors think this amount of paperwork is outrageous, when much of it is repeating what's already been said. This and ofsteds insistence that all the insane paperwork is ticked and in order. A bit of collaboration and common sense is needed, like 15 years ago. On top of this is people sat in offices and meetings, coming up with more ideas for even more irrelevant paperwork.

I’ve had to home educate because of the state of my sons previous school and their failings and ofsted did nothing despite numerous parents raising many things and the risk to kids there and still have a good rating so I don’t trust ofsted anyway and it’s dangerous schools not being checked up on at my sons previous school there was a child who’d managed to self harm on school grounds on at least 3 occasions in my sons year group there was a knife incident and school tried to cover it up bullying was rife so if schools are unregulated our kids are more at risk with schools such as this who try to hide what they do wrong and act different whilst ofsted are there then switch back once the inspection is over ofsted need to do more unannounced visits that would catch more bad schools out for a start I’m just glad my sons out of there but we shouldn’t of had to go down the road we have because neither ofsted or the school could do right by the kids and put them and their needs above the schools reputation so many have decided to home educate and pull their kids out if that school since last year it’s beyond loads of teachers left and many subjects have to have substitute teachers or even some who have no knowledge of the subject schools are failing our kids and only thinking of themselves

      "Extreme stress" 😮
The good ones tend to be the silent conservatives. The rest are leftie ideologues who don't like to be measured and also were very happy to push for a longer lockdown caring not for the pupils but their own Activision.

Allow teachers to teach what? Marxism and every crazy left wing activist theory that is designed to destroy society? The teacher union is left wing ,the children are taught that Britain’s history is shameful and every white person is racist. If teachers want to educate children properly in the subjects that matter then they will get people’s full backing.
