Absolutely fantastic video and will be dearly helpful in correcting the tiny mistakes I appear to be making in my MOD-2 for unrestricted license. Retake in mid January so hoping this 4th one will be the final. Stay safe and thank you once more!
    Question though: When I am riding along and I need to move over to the other side of the road temporarily do I need to indicate right as I'm moving out? I understand it's a change of position or direction so I am therefore needing to display what I'm doing but it makes me unsure.

    • @motorcyclelessonsuk

      ruclips.net/video/ORid9WNe63w/видео.html
      However, the quick answer is "no", you don't have to indicate, unless you feel by being over to the side of the road and with other traffic or road users about, that your position could be misinterpreted and you want to make it totally clear that you WILL be moving back out again. Judge each situation on the circumstances at the time. This one might be useful too because it covers moving in and out again:

    • @anneominous7172

      In the direction you're turning both before closing the gap between you and that side of the land and just before you make the turn (one in the other direction right before never hurts, either). If you're going straight then most commonly over the right shoulder if you're checking for an overtaking car or what-have-you. A fair rule of thumb is to check anywhere a car or cyclist or whatever could surprise you. Though the above in mind, most examiners aren't likely to mark you down for too many. Your instructor will likely know your examiner by name so they'll give you the score on what they look out for and what they don't. One piece of advice I would give in another area though is when you check your mirrors move your whole head (not just your eyes) to make it obvious that you're checking your mirrors or they may assume you aren't.

      Hi, thanks for the question. Actually, you will be marked down for unnecessary lifesavers if they take your eye off the road ahead when something is happening. Choose which lifesavers to do, make them count and don't do unnecessary ones just because you think the examiner would like to see it. @davidyates1299 7 месяцев назад

    Great video as usual. Minor point - I was always taught to do a terminal lifesaver before turning left but noticed you didn't. Was this on account of your road position already blocking off anyone coming up your left hand side and having checked your mirrors? Thinking logically, this removes the need for a shoulder check...

    • @motorcyclelessonsuk
      @motorcyclelessonsuk  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, yes, you've guessed it. Choose when to do lifesavers rather than doing them just because we were told to. If our position negates the need then you'll stay safer by looking around the bend or turn, planning ahead for what's next 😊 Thanks for the question, always good to ask 👍

    Great video as always. However, I'm a little confused about you saying the pedestrian priority rule doesn't apply on main roads. • @motorcyclelessonsuk
      @motorcyclelessonsuk  3 месяца назад

      Hi, the highway code stipulates the new rule applies to junctions only. It is under the section on junctions. Not roundabouts, not main roads, but junctions. I'm afraid I can't comment on your particular example as it's hard to know what the exact circumstances were. Better luck next time though 🤞🏻😊

    • @09jtip
      @09jtip 3 месяца назад

      @@motorcyclelessonsuk Yeah, I was confused about it too. My instructor said that it was only necessary to give way if people are IN the road, and not to worry about junctions etc., although this isn't what the Highway Code says. It's a minefield! Thank you for your reply :)

    • @09jtip
      @09jtip 3 месяца назад

      @@motorcyclelessonsuk Oh, by the way, I think the rule does apply at roundabouts. It states this in:
      despatch.blog.gov.uk/2022/01/26/changes-to-the-highway-code/
      However, someone from the DVSA states that it also has to be considered whether it is safe to stop. I guess at roundabouts, this is often going to be unsafe due to cars following behind etc. Personally, I think this rule is dangerous, as it encourages pedestrians to take risks, and other vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists are put at risk when stopping.
      Anyway, my major fault was due to two people in between two cars, in a coned off area. It was a very wide road, so they were in no danger. Since one of them was disabled (in a wheelchair), the examiner stated I should have given way. I do agree with him, however, I felt it was quite harsh. I couldn't find anything in the Highway Code about people already IN the road - only about people waiting to cross at junctions.

    • @anneominous7172
      @anneominous7172 7 месяцев назад

      The former, probably not if it doesn't affect your breaking distance during the test - and to be honest in near two decades of real-world riding I almost never use my rear brake. The latter, yes. You'll be expected to cover your rear brake when stationary. It's a stability thing and is considered the 'safe' way . Any particular reason why you're biased to the right leg or is it just a quirk?

    • @superbry
      @superbry 7 месяцев назад

      @anneominous7172 I had a injury to my left foot and it can randomly give in! Hence using my right foot, I always have my front brake covered, I actually feel really vulnerable using my left and not in full control of the bike! I have really tried the other way but I just can't seem to do it, I'd say I'm quite a good and safe rider I'm just worried this will stall my journey onto the bigger bike

    • @anneominous7172
      @anneominous7172 7 месяцев назад

      @@superbry That's a bit of a tricky one... I suppose there are things you could do that could take the edge off that - thicker soled boots so the bike has less lean and so less weight on your foot, or taking your test on a bike with a low seat height and/or centre of gravity (what are you riding currently, out of interest?). You'd have to double check this with an instructor but you might even be able to list it as a 'special exception' or something along those lines as I know certain allowances can be made for, say, deaf people or people with other physical disabilities, but my knowledge is pretty thin on that one.

      @motorcyclelessonsuk  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, don't worry too much about it, and no you don't need it as a special exception. The examiner is looking for the bike to be under control at all times, so if you can demonstrate smooth and gentle use of the front brake with no harsh stops or loss of balance, and effective hill starts with no roll-back (this is harder on the front brake alone), then the examiner is unlikely to mark you down. You should however be using both brakes to slow the bike down in the correct ratios for the conditions, to gain maximum control and effective braking, this is for life, not for test. You don't have to have the rear brake covered when you are stationary, not on test nor after. If you want to have the front brake covered or applied to show a brake light behind that is also fine. There are a lot of myths and people with answers that are not necessarily accurate, so do be wary of listening to advice from "experienced riders" who are not qualified instructors.
