Ugh i absolutely loved watching this show... hes such an amazing host and chef as well... miss this guy... they don't make laid back, comforting/watm, agd endearing cooking shows like this anymore, it's a shame really...i could fall asleep to this show it's so relaxing to watch in a great way
Chef Yan Kan.....still remember the days in the 1970s when you were in Calgary. I love your videos because your cooking is great, and the variety of you food is wonderful; and more importantly, done in the north American kitchen when deep frying with the hot flame can burn down the house. Keep up the good work with sharing Chinese cooking with all of us ....and happy traveling...Martin Yan's Chinatowns are da best !!!
I love his shows started watching every episode at 19 now 46 got alot of ideas what to cook like just few days ago now grandmother already last few days feels like watching his cooking program again so download alot.
I received "the Foods of the World" as a gift from my dad and this volume was from China and it had totally authentic dishes and Peking Duck was one of them and I must have watched 100 versions of this and almost all have totally different ideas of making this from putting marmalade in it to not inflating the skin which separates this iconic dish from a BBQ version of duck I have made about 10 and it takes some doing to convince Canadians that hanging the ducks for 2 days is not dangerous to our health and I have read that the original recipe from the first dishes was 50 K words but NOTHING can beat it's flavor
I'd watch the restaurant part every time I'm getting hungry. Peking duck is just delicious as heck and I really like that they use the remaining carcass for repurposing for another duck dishes.
For those all the meat lovers out there that haven't had Peking Duck before, you're missing out! One of my all time favorite dish as Martin said the best part is the skin.
I love how some ppl would say "eww. Keep the carcass. Cook it? That's gross. I would never." Oh, but you have. Not you, but your lineage. That is how we all have survived in the past. How do you think we all came out through the other end of winters, famine, disease, drought, and so on? THis is how we all live. ALL LIVE! Not just some ppl.
Yes he can when he was out here in Arizona at the Chinese culture center for Chinese New year one time he did show off his talents on that when he was asked from many fans I was pleased to see he said it and showed he was real and never lied about it.. he is a wonderful and talented man of his skills...
Enjoying your presentation... Please continue to post your recipes... I will try them out and share them with family and friends... Your Chinese Food fan from Mililani, Hawaii... Mahalo and Aloha!
Have you got any more episodes of Martin yans Chinatowns? You have a couple that I haven't got yet. I've been looking for these for years. I have about 60 all up now only missing about 5-10.
The chefs eating that duck meal next to him are probably sick of eating duck, because that's the main focus there, and they're tired of dealing with duck.
Real eye-opener! I haven’t known the “Peking Duck” can be made a soup before. I love the duck soup, but I don’t like plenty of fat swam on the surface of soup.Maybe some haws is required for my duck soup:-D
Well here's the secret... almost all the Americanized Chinese restaurants actually have and serve authentic Chinese food if you order off their secret menu... every. Single. Chinese. Restaurant. Has a secret Chinese menu that has all their authentic recipes on it...u just have to ask but sometimes its only reserved for friends and family
Huggie, I totally agree! Every Chinese restaurant these days has been Americanized to the point that it's rarely even close to authentic. Such a shame.
Ugh i absolutely loved watching this show... hes such an amazing host and chef as well... miss this guy... they don't make laid back, comforting/watm, agd endearing cooking shows like this anymore, it's a shame really...i could fall asleep to this show it's so relaxing to watch in a great way

Same I'm 50 myself and he's one of my favourite chefs
Before there was the food network there was PBS. It's where I first saw all these great food artists...and Bob Ross. Thanks PBS!
I grew up watching this guy with my grama !💯💯💯 Yan you da man!!
Ha. "The birds come home to roast." - precious.
Chef Yan Kan.....still remember the days in the 1970s when you were in Calgary. planetX15 I was born in 2002
And he goes back way before this food channel crap . Yan was doing this in the late 1970s on PBS......along with Jeff Smith.
And Julia Child, and Jaques Pepin!
I saw martin yan at the airport He is a good, friendly man
The original iron chef, Martin, Emeril Lagasse I would watch all the time. Time just flew, thanks for RUclips I can watch them again.
Still one of the best.

9:21 damm homeboy ninja chopped that so haha. thanks for the upload. fun to watch him cook. one of my childhood superstars along with Bob Ross.
Ninja my foot
He's Chinese, so more like Shaolin chop.
My uncle used to watch him and crack up. I miss my youth.
He is known in the ninja circle as "Minced Garlic"
😭😂
Classic show, from back when the Food Network was worth watching - it had shows that actually showed you how to cook real food... no longer
I received "the Foods of the World" as a gift from my dad and this volume was from China and it had totally authentic dishes and Peking Duck was one of them and I must have watched 100 versions of this and almost all have totally different ideas of making this from putting marmalade in it to not inflating the skin which separates this iconic dish from a BBQ version of duck I have made about 10 and it takes some doing to convince Canadians that hanging the ducks for 2 days is not dangerous to our health and I have read that the original recipe from the first dishes was 50 K words but NOTHING can beat it's flavor
if yan can cook so can I. 😂😆😍
i moved from northern NJ to Florida..... i used to hit Mott street 5 times a month for peking duck. I miss it so much!
Martin Yan is the MAN!!!!
One duck fooooooouuuurrrr dishes 🎻
This show was awesome and juila child I watched every week
Mr. Yan's knife skills are amazing! I mean look at the guy's precision and speed!
I wanna know what kind of tea he drinks before the show because he has the energy of a 10 year old and I love it!!
ducks just chillin' in the back.
"You can take the skin off if you like" !??!?!?!?!?
The Skin is the most important part of beijing duck
Yeah, more like - "you can take the meat off if you like".
He clearly doesn’t like doing dishes. The man can cook and entire meal with chopsticks and a meat cleaver. I love this dude and I always have
I love how he karate chops his food
If yan can cook, so can you!!!
Grandmaster chef. Doesn’t measure a damn thing but knows exactly how much he needs
When food network had shows that were good and worth watching.
I'm from San Francisco I grew up watching my guy Yan Can...
I'd watch the restaurant part every time I'm getting hungry. Peking duck is just delicious as heck and I really like that they use the remaining carcass for repurposing for another duck dishes.
lol I like how quiet they are when eating, sign of a good meal
For those all the meat lovers out there that haven't had Peking Duck before, you're missing out! One of my all time favorite dish as Martin said the best part is the skin.
In mainland china they just serve the skin and save the meat for lesser dishes.
hey i remember this show ^_^ used to watch on Saturday morning
I love how some ppl would say "eww. Keep the carcass. Cook it? That's gross. I would never." Oh, but you have. Not you, but your lineage. That is how we all have survived in the past. How do you think we all came out through the other end of winters, famine, disease, drought, and so on? THis is how we all live. ALL LIVE! Not just some ppl.
I know what he meant, but "You can actually eat tofu!" still cracked me up
Some people are skeptical about uncooked tofu
"LOOOK AT DAT!"
grew up watching Yan can cook on PBS in the late 90s, where did the time go..
He owns a restaurant in SF, California. A retired chef still cooking when he's on his spare time, and YAN CAN STILL COOK!
I watched your show when I was a kid 😄
Oh how I love this man. I learned to use white pepper from him many years ago.
I was planning a trip to Hong Kong for the sights and sounds. Now the planning is firmly for ducks and geese.
Love this dudes knife skills
Thank G-d he's not a serial killer :D
This man is a legend in the kitchen
I wish I could get peking duck here! Martin Yan is the best of the best!
Definitely, the best chef in the world ever.
i grew up watching him on his first show Yan Can Cook
That might be the first time I’ve seen the chef sit down and eat what he just created with his guest.
I heard that Martin Yan can chop onions with his eyes blindfolded.
Nazri Buang most Chinese cooks all can after doing it for years
Yes he can when he was out here in Arizona at the Chinese culture center for Chinese New year one time he did show off his talents on that when he was asked from many fans I was pleased to see he said it and showed he was real and never lied about it.. he is a wonderful and talented man of his skills...
Back in the day when life was much simpler
I replayed the "mince the garlic" part for at least 50 times, never get how he did that 'phew!' thing.
Enjoying your presentation... Please continue to post your recipes... I will try them out and share them with family and friends... Your Chinese Food fan from Mililani, Hawaii... Mahalo and Aloha!
Loved the first minute of bad puns
Duck is my favorite game bird. I like turkey too
Yan can Cook the original man.
Have you got any more episodes of Martin yans Chinatowns? You have a couple that I haven't got yet. I've been looking for these for years. I have about 60 all up now only missing about 5-10.
This brings back a lot of memories. Thank you for uploading. I still remembered when i was young and this show was on air. It's been a while, hah?
If Yan can cook, you can too!
They should really bring his show back.
Looks very delicious! One Duck 4 dishes!
He's the best
Classic Chinese cooking my lil brother watched him cook
And he did learn some of his dishes.
My cooking teacher every 5AM years ago!!!
very memorial music
Nice to hear you speaking Cantonese. Top chef.
For some reason when he looks right at the camera and says that I'm his special guest, I believe him...
Awesome :) Just wondering how many people lost limbs or lives trying to 'mince garlic like this' :D (9:19)
Just put it on my bill...oh god I'mma use that one lol
The chefs eating that duck meal next to him are probably sick of eating duck, because that's the main focus there, and they're tired of dealing with duck.
Real eye-opener!
I haven’t known the “Peking Duck” can be made a soup before. I love the duck soup, but I don’t like plenty of fat swam on the surface of soup.Maybe some haws is required for my duck soup:-D
If duck is ever on the menu, I have a hard time ordering anything else.
The Best!!!!!
Push it down push it down and cut it up cut it up!
Hoisin is the secret sauce
+kenny Roberts its called "Tian mian". sweeter than hoisin.
Cool, most use Hoisin for that
maybe in america or any other countries. But in China, we use tian mian:)
Cool, thank you. I didn't know that. I'm from Canada. Near Toronto
you are very welcome. I live in Vancouver :)
Amazing how he can say the "L" sound properly.
Oh, man - that's duck soup!
Wow... have to order duck for duck dinner.
I second what Yan says at 5:14...ive done it myself many times
9:19 So that's where Issac Toups got the trick
Here is the restaurant Peking Duck House
www.pekingduckhousenyc.com/
4:00 Keep playing this over and over...
Omg!!!!! 😂😂😂💲💲💲💲
Damn I need to find a *real* asian restaurant. Not these americanized ones they have around here.
Find an asian sounding person reviewer and look at their reviews
Just look for the restaurants with asians in it
Huggie, I totally agree! Every Chinese restaurant these days has been Americanized to the point that it's rarely even close to authentic. Such a shame.
Also look for places that specialise in one country (or region, especially for large diverse countries like China)
Love real Chinese cooking👍
I love watching people cook. That"s a good way to learn. But I'm sure it must take more than just that
Man that making me hungry as hell
Hello there!
How did the chicken cross the road?
Somebody threw the chicken egg across the road and the egg became the chicken.
Lol?
ETN...
Action Bronson brought me here.
Excellent
He is good contonese chef
4:29 for real he actually said “Ching Ching pong Ching”
He meant clear soup or broth...simple
Ctfuuuuuuu!!! Ayoooo you're stupid!! I musta played that part 100 times!! As me as we tease Chinese people he actually said it!!!😂😂😂😂😂
I wonder if he meant pull instead of push
Whoa! I didn't know about the air injection to separate the skin. Is there an easy technique to do that at home?
Mike Trieu no
Aram K I dunno, I think I might be able to rig one using an air compressor and a food grade sausage nozzle.
Mike Trieu or you can just go to a Chinese restaurant.. lol whole thing’s a hassle
Aram K The point is to learn a personal skill. Some people actually take joy in cooking. That's what Martin Yan was trying to teach.
Mike Trieu yeah let me know when you have that special roasting oven installed in your house as well
What is special sause?
