    For me the R41 and Nacet are the perfect combination and is my daily driver with Castle Forbes Lavender shave cream. I am thinking of an adjustable but why bother when the perfect shave is obtained with the R41, truly a modern classic razor.

    Great shave Kevy! I knew you'd like the r41 this time around. The r41 you sold to Arthur is the same as the one you have now not the 2011 The credit is yours and your improved technique 👊. The 2011 had slightly different top cap to the one you used to own and the one you have now. You've tamed the beast lol. Have a great weekend mate. 😊👍

    A very nice, informative and detailed video! Thanks a lot!
    Just one hint: It's "Mühle", not "Muhle", and if you don't have an "ü"-key just write "ue" instead.
    "Mühle" is pronounced "Mü-Lay" instead of "Miool" ("ü" being pronounced like the French "u" - so a halfway house between "ee" and "oo").
    Not using Umlaute (Ä, Ö, Ü) both in pronuciation and written form can lead to massive missunderstandings.
    E.g.:
    Schlosser = locksmith BUT Schlösser = palaces
    Masten = masts BUT mästen = to fatten
    schwul = gay (homosexual) BUT schwül = muggy

    Bar = bar/pub BUT Bär = bear
    Dosen = cans/tins BUT dösen = to doze
    Schussel = scatterbrain BUT Schüssel = bowl
    schon = already BUT schön = beautiful/handsome
    etc.
    Best regards from Vienna, Austria

    You know they lessened the aggression of the R41. I believe that was done in 2013 which could account for your better shave if you had one of the pre-2013 models the first time you owned one. I have the current one and have never had a problem with the aggression. That looked like an excellent shave, and of course you can never go wrong with a Frank Shaving brush. 👍👍👍

    Great shave as always, nice intro😊
    It’s good that the R41 worked good for you, in my opinion the R41 always works better with mild blades, but you’re right also there is a bite to the blade and needs to treat with respect.

    If you purchased your old R-41 around 18 months earlier, it's the exact same R-41 you used in this video. This time around with the R-41, your technique has improved and your skin has toughened up. I had the exact same experience as you did with the R-41. First time around for me was unpleasant. 2 years later and now the R-41 is my favorite razor.

    Great shave Kevy, you’ll probably get to sleep in the house tonight as good as you look. 👍😜 you are right about what you said about razors and products that are seen in videos we watch because that’s how I’ve accumulated 13 razors , 12-13 soaps and creams, shave bowls , and of course there is balms and splashes which I have quite a few of. At 71 I’m having a great time with my new hobby and my quiet time in the bathroom relaxing and shaving. Thanks to you and Paul and ken and several others I’m really enjoying shaving for the first time in my life....although I’m still a tender face as I’ve only been doing this sense the last part of April. Now on the positive side my boys won’t get any money when I die but they will get some very nice razors and accessories. The down side of that is they both have heavy beards and don’t like to shave, 🥴.

    Kevy's happy! You had your audience expecting amateur facial surgery. All kidding aside, you took all necessary precautions with good cause. The R41 wasn't bestowed its reputation by marketing alone. My never having owned one is an admission to every cautionary tale I read and heeded. Then again, I find the Fatip Grande plenty efficient. The end result of a 5 day growth start was spectacular! You were left with smooth, BBS result. I too have heard the hype that the R41 underwent redesign to a milder version. I would like to see the comparison with the 2011 model sold to Old Chops. If there IS a difference, I would be disappointed. However, I reside in the camp that your technique, and well executed prep domesticated the German werewolf of DE razors. Not to mention your skin has become acclimated after these last years of steadily improved pressure, angle, and finesse. If the comparison is equal, you can be pridefully gallus. Cheers for this session! Sir Kevin Parr: Dragonslayer of the the Scots.

    Good evening Kevy! Awesome intro...building the drama for the Muhle R41 action. I like the look of the Rose-gold handle. Your lathers always impress. My water must be super hard as I never get my lather at home to look as yours. On my trip to Asia, I loaded for about 10 seconds and got a lot closer to what you have there. Must be the water, eh? To me, the R41 is very blade dependent for a smooth, comfortable, and forgiving shave. I like use Crystal blades. Nacet blades would be a decent choice for me as well. Riding the cap is a must IMO. It does deliver a superior shave, but not as a daily...it was my only DE for a period of 3 months in the beginning. Once the irritation develops, you do need to wait about 3 days to recover. So, not a good choice for a daily IMHO. It does excel in the way you are using it now, removing the days of growth with ease. I think the Blackland Dart gives the same sort of efficient shave. Thanks for sharing the return of the Muhle R41. Happy shaves! Take care.

      @kevyshaves4109  5 лет назад

      Hi Todd. Have you tried ,athering with bottled water to see if it is your tap water? The Muhle R41 was a great shave with a thick growth but your right, much too efficient for a daily use razor. Cheers. Kevy 😀

    • @toddf9321
      @toddf9321 5 лет назад +1

      @@kevyshaves4109 Yes, bottled water solves the lathering issue completely. Tested it upon my return from Taiwan. You inspired me to shave with the Muhle R41...outstanding shave. Loaded a Brazilian Gillette Platinum Plus and used a TOBS cream. 18 hours later still BBS.

    I was using a $2 Gillette DE razor, plastic handle for the last 10 years or so. Not doing anything special, just the aerosol shaving cream. It was really damaged over the years so I got the R41 thinking those last 10 years were experience. I could never be more wrong. It was rough first month or so for me. Definitely a worthy introduction for Mühle "the Shark" R41, 2011 edition! 😀In addition, Kevy's proficiency with a razor of such firepower is by all means noteworthy. Honestly, I found this Proraso line very very disappointing, scentwise, especially if compared to other products of this historical brand. Cheap and popular stuff, that's sure, but generally more convincing overall, as far as I could say. Regardless, a very nice shave for a very nice Scotsman. Here's a thought: perhaps, you have X number more months or years shaving experience, more knowledgeable in/with technique, your skin has become conditioned or more precisely "seasoned" to the touch of a very sharp blade, your muscle memory is locked in and most importantly--self confidence and self assurance has matured and that is why the Muhle R41 feels smoother and you understand why others said what the said previously....

    Great opening Kevy 😂 Great to see you were brave enough to return to the 'beast' and mastered it👍

    I think those large tubes of Proraso can last forever! My Wood & Spice cream just needs a very small string to whip up a tremendous lather. No more than a half inch (1.25 cm) is necessary.
    Next up for you is the Fatip Piccolo open comb with a Feather blade! I think you're right about the angle with the aggressive razor. I hold the Fatip at a steeper angle and it's a bit more comfortable. The Piccolo has a nice bite to it I think the Fatip Grande OC is even more aggressive. I'm surprised you didn't get the Muhle R41 Twist which is heavier at 90g. Yours is 64g. I've read the R41 Twist is bit smoother because of the added weight.

    • @kevyshaves4109
      @kevyshaves4109  5 лет назад

      I love these Proraso creams. They are really excellent. Funny you should mention the R41 twist being heavier. A couple of people have said to me to try the R41 with a heavier handle as it shaves better for them. I'll need to think about trying that sometime. Cheers. Kevy 😊👍

    Hey Kevy your back to trying out the R41 good for u I should go back to my R41 I have the (2013) head I’ve gotten well over a hundred shaves with mine don’t mean to brag about it but I got some great shaves but my go to razor is either the Karve razor (D plate ) and the Rex Ambassador although I just bought myself a Viking Crusader adjustable razor Black and Bronze but actually it’s describe as a Black and Cognac very nice razor just like a Gillette Fat Boy razor. Got mine on Amazon.com. There is a shaving video out on those razors by a Mark Szorady on You Tube good shave glad u went back to it. Cheers

      J. C I agree, I have a Muhle 41, have never had a problem with it, I LOVE how ultra fast it is for my shaves...but I agree, this razor is what you use if you want to do ONE pass with cleanup. It’s for people who want to spend as little time as possible shaving daily. 3 passes is too much and is not the right razor for those who do these long meditative shaving sessions. I do only 2 shaves per razor side before I replace (ensures you always have a sharp blade), do minimal prep (no warm water soaking my face) and do one pass and cleanup (not even needing to go slow, just don’t use much pressure and you won’t nick). That’s it. So much faster than a cartridge.

    I have the R41 twist - I prefer this style of changing the blade. Still only use it if I do not find the time to shave for a week or so and have to get rid of long hair. I dont cut myself with it but it irritates my skin a little usually.

    Leaving straight razors due to a stroke. Everybody is making too big a deal on this razor. I use mine every morning and have been trying sample packs of DE blades. If your afraid of it leave it alone. Try a straight razor and see which is more aggressive. For me I love the Muhle R-41!!!!!!

    I got some of the pre shave oil that you used on this shave. My local Home Bargain has finally started selling it. Been going if for the last few months but they didn’t sell it until now. Kevy Shaves I used it yesterday when I shaved with my Rockwell 6S. I think there may have been a bit more slickness/easier to cut the whiskers feel. But it wasn’t a night and day difference.
      I’m going to try some next week, when I will be shaving with my R41. I’ll post an update 🙂👍🏻
