    So, i got a B60 few month ago and been playing with it. If you want less dust try steel grit media. It is heavy so it falls down fast and the only dust you have is the crap you blasted off; not the abrasive itself. Also, that gun comes with 1/8th jet, going up will speed things up if you have the compressor hp for it.

  • @bcmfarms
    @bcmfarms 3 месяца назад

    I did something like what you have here. I’ve noticed that the intake port now is rather low and has a tendency for the vacuum to actually suck up the media, so I made the intake for the vacuum port a little higher and solved the issue.

  • @maloyaircraft1174
    @maloyaircraft1174 2 года назад +1

    Great modifications. Stagnating air within the chamber is the leading cause to the visibility issue. Extra vacuum pulling the air out quicker always helps!

    So... Who's modified/changed the lid latches on their Eastwood cabinet? The springs keep popping out of mine, and I've about had it. Considered using rubber latches like on a Jeep hood or a Yeti cooler, but was wondering what other people have done.
    Great video! Loved the mods. The first thing I did to mine was change the light to a larger, LED version, and change the switch to a metal outlet box and added a duplex outlet and a light switch. Now I just hit the switch and the vacuum and light come on. (Still can't see, though. LOL)

    The only thing I would add now is a metering valve at the bottom. Only $40, easy to install, works WAY better than a pickup tube, and lets you run WAY less media at any given time. Great build!!!

      I built my own bottom feed from galvanized and pvc plumbing parts and adapted it to the bottom of my modified horrible fright cabinet. It works much better than the pickup tube.

  • @stevenmitchell6347
    @stevenmitchell6347 2 года назад +1

    A narrow slot(s) on the right side wall to provide an air wash across glass would help improve visibility. Parallel with the top and about an inch down from the corner break. You could close the rear vent completely. A cyclonic dust separator inline between the cabinet and vacuum will keep airflow high and reduce filter blockage and cleaning. Other than a bottom feed regulator for abrasive, similar to the mod for the Harbor Freight blast cabinet, to eliminate the siphon tube, that's all I would change at this point. I like the vacuum manifold and will definitely use that idea!

  • @CGT80
    @CGT80 2 года назад

    I built my own bottom feed from galvanized and pvc plumbing parts and adapted it to the bottom of my modified horrible fright cabinet. It looks like the mods here worked. Right now, my vacuum is a shop vac with a drywall filter bag and a 5 gal bucket lid separator (not the tall funnel type, but low profile) to get the heavy stuff. It might be time for an upgrade to that.
    I'm used to blasting faster with the skat blast 20-25 cfm tips and gun, but I have an old westinghouse air brake company pump on my compressor which looks about like a harley engine sitting on top of the tank. It is pressure lubricated with a real 5hp motor so it makes 20 cfm and sounds like an average quietish pickup idling vs. a screaming compressor. If only I had a silent/compact compressor that put out this much air, but this one fits my needs very well.
    These videos are giving me ideas for my shop as I have a 4x8 plasma table that I built myself and I have started powder coating my finished parts vs. using spray paint. I was a building painter for many years and could spray auto paint, but it is way too expensive and temperamental for a home shop and even for some commercial shops. There are many options for colors and types of finish. Heck, I even powder coat my cast bullets after they come out of the automated bullet casting machine that I built. After powder coating, they go through my automated sizing machine. That is actually how I first used powder coating, but I just tumbled the bullets in a plastic container to coat them with powder.
    Great videos, thanks for all the ideas.

    We added an in line air vibrator to the collector to help keep no voids in sand.

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  3 года назад

      That’s a great idea. I haven’t had much issue with voids but I wonder if it is because this is their revised model from the early cabinets. Seems other people have issues with the media getting picked up.

    If its nice enough outside, turn your water hose onto mist, then hydrate the air around you, before you dust. A tint professional taught me this trick. The water mist acts as a catch, and reduces airborne particulates. Should apply to various scenarios. Hope this helps someone 🙏 🙂

    Awesome work as always, my best upgrade to my old jobs blast cabinet was adding 3 12v vibrating motors to the tub. It shakes the media just enough to keep the feed tube always buried. Used a cheap power supply to run them and some bright led lights.

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  4 года назад

      Appreciate that Damien! That sounds like an awesome upgrade. This Eastwood redesign with the deep V hopper has never let me down but my understanding is the older units and some of the other brands suffer to get the material where it picks up. Really great job. I'm in the market to add a blaster to the garage shop in order to press on with two MGB, (British car), restorations at the same time. Your idea of moving the vac tube was great. I need to press things against the wall too. Also, I'm vindicated by you putting it on wheels!! My wife thinks I'm nuts putting everything on wheels, but when she saw you outside in the dust cloud it all became clear!! It's getting cooler here in Holland, Mi so time to order the cabinet! Outstanding job!!

    Great video, a couple of things I have recently done, 1. Powder coat the inside white, 2. High output LED flood light, and 3, removed the glass, welded studs for glass mounts for faster glass swaps, then thin piece of plexy, new glass, then plexy sandwitch and change the plexy out every couple of jobs. That said, the large vent in the rear right (looking into yours) is it open to the outside? Mine is closed, with the shop vac dust collector it is almost dustless inside the box with use.

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  8 месяцев назад +1

      Those sound like great upgrades. I’ve been contemplating getting some more light in there. The vent on the back is about 1/3-1/2 open on mine and it seems to flow best there and keep the dust down.

    I think you did a great job with the manifold but the only catch 22 of setting the original blue top piece at a 90 degree angle instead of 45 like it was previously is that the blast media is going to collect on top but it's an easy problem to solve. I just put a second airline in the cabinet to blow parts off and I just shoot the edges with the air only while i am blowing stuff off. Great build though and love your shop setup. If you didnt want to go that far you can also just hit it with your blast air and clear that edge with just a little media left afterwards.

  • @rjay1674

    Hey Phil, great job. So great in fact I'm following along in your foot steps. First I'll offer a couple of suggestions. I have been blasting with a small bench top blast cabinet for several years. I have the Harbor Freight branded media recovery setup which is identical to the Eastwood one you have. That filter has always been the biggest headache. It plugs up real quick and is horrible to clean. So first suggestion, no matter what others say, get a Dust Deputy. It keeps so much of the dust out of the filter it will extend your filter cleanups double or triple the amount of time between cleanouts. Second thing, those filters are very expensive to replace. I found the identical ones on Ebay for $40 ea. shipped. I bought 2 so now I can swap them out quickly and not need to stop in the middle of a project. Third, I found some shop vac filter filter bags at Harbor Freight for less than $5 for 3. It's a tight fit but they will fit over the dust collector filter I takes 1 1/2 bags per filter so you get enough to do 2 filters for $5. These keep that fine dust from ever even getting to the pleats in the filter and makes clean out a breeze. I can also can tell no difference in the amount of suction with these bags on the filter. Finally, because of you, I bought an Eastwood B60. I have it together but haven't got everything hooked up yet. I also loved your idea for the collector manifold so last week I ordered a Langmuir Crossfire Pro using your link and code. However, apparently it won't be shipped until sometime in May. I need to get blasting, got 2 projects going, '62 Impala and '64 Chevelle. I need to somehow get that manifold. Can we talk?

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  3 года назад +1

      Yes!! Huge fan of the ‘64 Chevelle absolutely one my favorites and you can never go wrong with a ‘62 Impala. I’m about to dig into my 66 C10 that can been seen in many of these videos.
      Really appreciate the tips on the eBay filters and the filter bags. I’ll have to give them a look because as you said the cost of those filters is absolutely crazy. I didn’t have time for it in the video but I have a very similar product to the Dust Deputy on mine. The Dust Stopper has actually done wonders to save some of the loss of suction. The clean out you saw here was from months of use. Perhaps with the filter bags you suggested I’d have a real winner here.
      CONGRATS on the Crossfire pro. That’s just a stellar unit. Let me tell you those tables open doors! If I had the space I’d definitely make the upgrade to the pro.
      As for the manifold strangely you are the second request this week. I currently have the table shut down because I’m in the middle of shooting another video but the next time I have it fired up I’m going to batch out a few and get them up on my website: thehouseofchop.com
      If you have any questions on the B60 don’t hesitate to reach out. I’ve been super happy with it.

      @@HouseofChop Happy to hear this. You know, you sure look like your having a blast in your videos. That's the way to do it! Btw, your Schwarzenegger isn't half bad. In fact, the more I drink, and if I close my eyes, i'd swear you were him...lol Hey, i'm currently building an Eastwood B60 right now. I'm making a few mods that you suggested. Also, some additional mods from the guys who build up the Harbor Freight cabinets to make them work better. For example: making it a gravity feed, and adding a dust deputy (huge upgrade). Also, relocating the air line to underneath so it's out of the way. I have a 60 gallon Quincy 5hp compressor in my shop. It flows a little over 15 cfm. Also, 1/2 inch air lines. I'm hoping this things gonna blast like a mother! I watched your other video where you rolled the B60 outside and were blowing insane amount of media, which looked like soda? out of your Eastwood filter. Here's a suggestion: consider adding a Dust Deputy to your rig. It will catch all of your media and keep your filter super clean. It's unbelievable. Check out this video and you'll see what I mean - Note: Forward about 2 minutes in. ruclips.net/video/P0Z2WBicBXA/видео.html I can't wait to get my blast cabinet working. I'm working on adding casters right now. Also, I am considering buying this cool upgraded gun that is supposed to be twice as efficient to my build. It's a little pricey but super cool (so we'll see). This guy builds a wicked vapor blast cabinet - ruclips.net/video/DPr7DY_Rhxk/видео.html I believe this custom designed blast gun can be used for wet or dry blasting, I was going to email the guy and find out.
      PS: How is the LED light holding up in there? I am considering replacing them with spot lights so that I can replace the bulb easily if they become etched. Also, how well can you see through the window at this point? It it getting all etched? The harbor freight guys mod the window with studs so that the glass can be easily replaced. I may do this down the road.
      Oh, almost forgot, if you do ever make yours a gravity feed, I found this nice waterproof hub to go into the bottom of the hinged door. www.amazon.com/dp/B0055D5N68?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details It took a while to find this thing. Most of the HF guys don't use one with a rubber seal, like this one.
      PS: I don't make money on either of these products. I am just trying to give you something back, if possible, for all of the time and effort you took to make your excellent and entertaining instructional videos, which were a big help to me. Thanks a again. G

      Just saw this cool video. This guys cabinet can switch from wet blasting to dry in nothing flat. ruclips.net/video/LlMZeMLis1o/видео.html Thinking of doing this with my B60. This guy has a 3hp and 5hp gun that works wet or dry that kicks ass. $250 for the gun, though. I am using a 3/4 manifold with a 3/4 to 3/4 brass barb to 3/4 inch ID feed line using flexilla hose this guy sells. 1/2 line ID to the gun, if I get it. I do hate spending money, but i'll bet the difference in the performance is huge, if you have a 3 to 5hp compressor and 1/2 inch air lines. Thoughts?

    In all seriousness, I'm green with envy. Would love to have those tools and, more importantly, know how to use them to their full effect.
    Enjoyed your video previous to this one and it, like this one, was excellent as well. One can only wonder why Eastwood doesn't have your videos on their website or, at least, links to these, two, on RUclips. Yours are much more informative.
    Eastwood should incorporate your modifications into their future models. If I order one from them, I wonder if they would be willing to integrate your modifications for me since, I don't have those fancy tools. ;-)

I’m far from done and I doubt I’ll ever get there but I can absolutely verify its been a blast along the way.
