I honestly don’t know why so many hate on this, is beautiful, both parts are beautiful why getting overly critical of a song that Tony wanted to write and serve it as a sequel of his previous one? Yes. Because he wanted to and did a great job.

The piano when he finally starts to remember starting with the name of the boat, The White Pearl... You can feel his memory hasn't fully come back the way it plays

I don't know why but this song gives me hope, that there is someone for me... Once I rise from desperation.

Petri Suojanen this is from an interview on September 6, 2016 with Henrik and Tony, he would be so happy to know that his continued effort to touch hearts with Black Pearl White Oceans is a success.
Elise: And there is "White Pearl, Black Oceans Part II", as well. When you write those songs, do you think "oh I want to write follow ups"?Tony: Absolutely not. It happens if it happens, basically. "White Pearl, Black Oceans" has this special place in the hearts of many Sonata Arctica fans: there are fan-fictions written around it and people have said "it should make a great movie", there are tattoos on people so it has never faded away and we have played it live as well. This idea has slowly developed to go back there also artistically, maybe write something to expend that story somehow, or continue it but at first I thought "continue what? They died!" (laughs) It's like on Titanic if Leonardo Dicaprio was suddenly swimming ashore. (laughs) But that happens here in this Part II. They are both alive. Of course a lot of other people have died. This is my personal Titanic. It was on April, I think, that I posted something on Instagram and said that I was working on "White Pearl, Black Oceans Part II" and immediately people started to comment "I want to hear that!" and I thought "good going, Tony, and now I have to really do it". But I did that on purpose to force me to get into it and get it done. I needed that kind of motivation and challenge also. I enjoy challenging myself and finding new ways to approach my work and this required it, in a way. I had to go back into a story that has a strong meaning for many people and I had to be up for it both musically and story-wise so it demanded a lot. I think pulled it off pretty ok. Mood wise it's much mellower than the first part but it continues directly where the first part left off and there's this thematic that continues as well. I think the whole thing binds together well. And maybe you have a happy ending there as well in the end, everything is fine. It's like going back in memory of that time when people go aboard that familiar ship and it crashes and a lot of people die except that one person who thinks it's partially his fault and everybody blames him for what happened and although it's not necessarily his fault, he drowns himself...but he doesn't drown.Henrik: Happy ending!Tony: I really look forward to fulfilling the plan that we have: one day we're going to play them both together. One long twenty minute song.

Personally, I think the characters in this song are different than the ones in the original White Pearl, Black Oceans. I think that the Lighthouse Keeper and the Young Mother did indeed both drown. My thoughts are that the narrator of this song is the Captain of the White Pearl, and the woman who was rescued was his lover. He went down with his ship, but floated to the surface of the sea and lived. However, he lost some of his memory due to a head injury sustained during the wreak. The townspeople shun him because he was the one who steered the White Pearl onto the reef; although he wasn't truly at fault since the lighthouse marking it burned out. Thankfully, he is able to elope with his lover and start a new life.

Of course anyone can interpret things the way they like to. But Tony has himself said that he "had to do some reviving" on the main characters from the original song. So the way he meant it, they survived. But like I said, anyone can see what they want to see despite that. :)

I love this song but disliked that it gave part 1 a happy ending. This is now my headcanon. Thank you for fixing it for me!

That theory is as brilliant as it gets. Thank you, for this wildly different interpretation than what I have considered up till now. you sir, are amazing.

I dunno. Anyone else feel that the continuation of that story was unnecessary and this "happy ending" lessens part 1?

Yes, exactly. And even the song itself, the music and the lyrics are bad. It has one good stretch of music in the middle, but the rest kinda sucks. I'm just gonna pretend this Part 2 doesn't exist.

Taking the old story that was so effective BECAUSE of the tragedy and giving it an overly optimistic spin in a sequel is about as lame as taking "Gloomy Sunday" in its original English lyrics and adding the horrible "oh I woke up and the bad stuff was just a dream" part to it. No. Just no. If it's painful and it's known for being painful, leave it as it is and don't butcher it just to make your feelings rosy.

Why not. I heard the first song thousand times and it stroke me like a lightning, I have strong emotions about it, I love the song deeply. And today when I found this one - I am just happy for him. The original story is still there and you can enjoy it separately, but if you want, you can go to this one and be like aww, there is still hope and love in this world. It's music, art, it's about feelings and meanings we take out of it :)

part II its ok,just ok,white pearl black oceans doesnt have the same impact anymore when this song was released, in my opinion it should have stayed like it was,a tragic love story of a man without any experience in the "real world" that wanted to be free and enjoy life. its like all of us,sometimes we cant do whatever we want cause of family or money, its a deep message i first heard white pearl black oceans 13 years ago, and everytime i listen, still hurts and remember me that i have responsabilities that keeps me tied in this world... sad...
