My first trip to Oahu was in 1976 and my last time there was in 2010. Wow, did Honolulu and Waikiki ever grow during that time.

Do it. I moved here from Dallas TX in September of 2016. Been living here on Oahu for 4 years now.
just make sure if you do move there to respect the local culture and customs, and give native Hawaiians the space they need. Do not go live on areas reserved for native Hawaiians unless they invite you, even tho the SCOTUS said it's "racist" for native Hawaiians to have rights to self-government, etc., they still deserve it.
So beautiful place to live in you know...a happy life.
