Nathan Lane should get more props for this than he does. I know Robin Williams left us far too soon, but Nathan is still here and we should let him know we love him, too. Such a talent. Singing, dancing, acting, wearing those HEELS! Albert is the epitome of a drag queen, a diva, but somehow he also is human and not a caricature. That's why we believe the tender scenes with Armand as well as this hilarity. That's the genius of Nathan Lane's performance.
Specially made dance shoes. Maybe just for this movie and his stage scenes in this movie. A lot of professional dancers wear those those kind of heels and because he's built differently than a woman, he has thicker heels. If it were women's professional dance heels, the heel would be a bit thinner. And I bet during takes, he either took them off or rested his feet because the straps looked too tight around his ankles.
@@drafter3412 I never noticed that before, but you're right! The actor is Dan Futterman, and he's much better known as a writer than as an actor. He played Daniel Pearl in "A Mighty Heart."

I just did some quick research on the dancers Robin was citing, and he was actually spot on for all of them, albeit applying his own comedic interpretation, which was another sign of his comedic genius.
I came here to watch Nathan Lane again, but when they focused on Robin Williams it just broke my heart. Still, I was laughing like a hyena with Nathan’s jokes a second later
💚 Nathan Lanes' voice is amazing 👏 💚 such beautiful gifted singing Sir.. love you 💘 Nathan and Robin you are such brilliant actors 💚 watching THE BIRD CAGE 😆🤣 ❤👏💜 💚💕👏💜💚💙 💕💞 much love 💘 from N.Z. 😊
@0:34 There's something so dreamy and mysterious about the chromatically descending bass piano notes. (I think the run starts from the note B1 on the piano and runs down chromatically till Bb0) Those are usually either entirely missing from the other versions of the song I've heard; or not as fluidly performed.
Nathan Lane was “in the closet” in this?? 😹😹 Seriously, especially in the 90’s, he could’ve easily came out. I’m glad he played humble tho because he didn’t want his personal life to overshadow this movie. Nathan Lane is such a gem. He’s a pure diva in this and he’s killing it! I love him!
This movie was so funny, Gene Hackman in drag I did not even recognize him; I must’ve left for two weeks. Every time I remember the scene when I realize that Jin Gene Hackman was who he was that’s so funny.😂
The Madonna reference in quite a few Mike Nichols films is surprisingly consistent from Working Girl, Postcards From The Edge to The Birdcage. I'm sure there's more from later movies..
Yes, may they rest in peace. I will always remember this moment, it's priceless! "You do Fosse-Fosse-Fosse, you do Martha Graham-Martha Graham-Martha Graham, or Twyla-Twlya-Twyla, or Michael Kidd-Michael Kidd-Michael Kidd-Michael Kidd, or Madonna-Madonna-Madonna! But you keep it all inside." 🤩😆

I do love that despite his anger over the rehearsal, Albert still took the time to say hi to Val, a true parent right there lol
Because the script for this movie told him to say that. Lol
And Val returns that love by being ashamed of him and asking him to disappear when the soon-to-be in-laws come to visit.
@@JMarieCAlove you like to ruin parties i see
Val is just a typical, self centered kid. Totally age appropriate
"Sweetie you're wasting your gum."
"I don't think I get it?" "Try more gum!"
Hahahaha Albert is a straight up savage!
Or one of my favorites: “I think you better come down, he’s trying to take his chewing gum away.”😂
Albert would 100% be a fan of Downton Abbey, and the Dowager would absolutely be his favorite character
The song Albert is singing is called “Little Dream” written by Stephen Sondheim-but he wrote it specifically for The Birdcage
Which is kind of ironic since this movie is partly based on the musical that was composed by Jerry Herman.
@@jandreidrn based on the french play surely, not the herman musical? which was also based on the play
Yes. He also wrote another song for the movie that was cut.
Can anyone see Nathan Lane staring in a production of La Cage aux Folles?
I’ve always wondered, thank you ❤

True, but I think Nathan Lan does get lots of praise, both from the audience and critics and producers/directors who keep hiring him.

The best scene in the whole film. In fact whenever I think of The Birdcage I go "Madonna Madonna Madonna!"
Madonna being referenced in such a classic movie like this means she is truly legit!
and the dancer in this scene was actually in one of Madonna's tours too.
