I like the Katsu designs for sure. They have good prices too. Looks like. Hell of a buy honestly.
It also performed very well and the edge is unblemished and just as scarey sharp.

Damn. After swearing no more knives this month because I already spent to much this month, I just went and bought one of these. I have and love the carbon fiber version. Like you, my only gripe is no pocket clip. really like the convex grind. Then you went and showed us this gem, and of course, I just HAVE to have one! 😂

I already have the CF version, and love it, but no clip and I'm not fond of the sheath it comes with. I did buy a custom leather sheath that I set up for cross draw, and that improved the ability to carry greatly. However, I still would've preferred it had a clip. When I saw you do this video with the titanium version, I didn't hesitate to buy one. I didn't even finish the video yet when I jumped over and bought it. I must say, I am in love with this new version even more than the old one! What an awesome knife! I love the convex grind! I have several fixed blades with a convex, and they perform so good! I appreciate the heads up on this one brother!!
Now that is definitely one that has hit the spot in my tiny mind that starts me dribbling, I would have bet that it was a Rockstead as it just screams it so loudly so it’s a great soul filling piece until you get that amount of money needed for a real deal Rockstead 🤤🤤 have a great day J&k stay safe and healthy both 🫵😘👍
Great looking knife! I'm tempted!
This is a very elegant looking knife and I ordered one after Your informative review. ZDP189 steel has about 20% Chromium and should not be prone to rust. The blade has a ZDP189 core and is therefore more affordable. Anyway I can't wait to have this one in my collection. Thanks.
zdp gets a yellow patina over it over time, you can kind of see it on my rockstead, which i keep clean however if not the blade turns yellow

@mtcisme so it's just a tint, and I think it's just patina from finger prints over time getting wiped off, it's not major and most wouldn't even notice, if you keep it clean, oiled often it will be just fine

I am liking that front flipper.. just seeing it in action I can tell if he able to do it. I’m not good with the front ones normally. ZDP189 is nuts too, I had it on an Endura 4 and it was to much for me. Under a bright flashlight it looked like millions of little diamonds stuff was crazy. Hitachi is the only company that produces that steel btw.. kinda neat factoid.

Both the budget and premium version seem to be a good value but $200 might be a lot for many.
IMO, the budget variant could be much more popular if they would make a V2 with the following changes:
Get rid of the sheath. Even though it seems to be quality, almost no one carries their knives in large belt sheaths like this anymore.
With the money saved on the sheath, get rid of the lanyard hole and add a Ti pocket clip like on the premium version.
If they would just do that, I'm pretty sure they would sell much more of the budget variant. I know I would buy one.

I was wondering the exact same thing. I wouldn't mind getting it but I would have no clue how to sharpen it since I don't do free hand sharpening.
It's best to keep them stropped before they get too dull. Convex edges strip beautifully. You can sharpen it on stones, it takes a bit more technique, you need to vary your angles and then strop to finish it off. If you keep it maintained on a strop though, it should last an insanely long time
I just ordered one, now the wait. I’m hoping it meets the hype. Quite a departure from my VG10 Delica, and the wife thinks I’m an idiot for dropping the money…So please Katsu, throw a dog a bone and send me a great knife!
Hello Mr Knives, Im a 19 year old Student in South Africa and I recently started a knife sharpening business of my own using the worksharp Ken onion edition machine. Could you make a video highlighting the process by which you started your business and give some tips and whatnot. Also on another note could you test and see if the Ken onion can bring an edge down to hair splitting sharp. Thank you for your time

Ok, zdp at that Rockwell, at that price... That's an automatic purchase for me. I've been wanting a Rockstead for years. But I know that if I got one, I'd never end up using it. This however, satiates my appetite enough that I could hold off on the Rockstead a little longer. Thanks for the heads up! (I'm still gonna want that Rockstead tho🤤) Lol
That would be awesome if they offered it with the pocket clip in the zdp-189 steel but with the carbon-fiber scales like on the old one

Would these be any good for regular use cutting cardboard or would the edge be too fragile for that?
I went to get the titanium version but it wasn't available so I got the carbon fiber version. I love it. I can't stop flipping it. There's just something about it. I have since been able to get the titanium one ordered. I've never played with a Rockstead. Is there really an $800.00 difference in the knives? If so, what are they? Love the channel. Check it daily.
All we needed was a pocket clip. Didn't need to more then double the price

Greetings again! I have scratches on the upper areas that are above the main blade after cutting cardboard. I thoroughly washed it down and Ktl'd it and the next day I saw them. What ever the outer coat is, it's not very resistant to cardboard!
I'll be cut testing it against my TwoSun Vanguard with the new V1 steel.

A rockstead would be my grail knife… but I figured I try this first. Added benefit: for 180$ I’m inclined to actually use it. A 1000$ rockstead maybe not so much.
@@CristoffelBonorandI have a RockStead Higo X, and it is my grail knife. I'm going to buy this knife though... My Higo sits in the safe, and only comes out when I'm feeling poor.
This thing will get used everyday, and I can practice stropping and sharpening.

I have a couple of katsus and they are both very nice knives... but both of them have a big issue, the ball bearings rust inside and make a mess. My two models are older models, JT01 in VG10 and KS01 in AUS-8, maybe they fixed this issue by now, but it would be great to see a disassembly of this new model to confirm.
Buy some ceramic bearings and replace them. Theyre pretty cheap and its an easy upgrade for diy'ers.

so far its been decent, its difficult for me to really tell without a controlled test which i have not done with them, sharpening can give you an idea but its not perfect i did some of there zdp which was pretty good or atleast it seemed pretty good

its actually made in japan, with a real hand done zero ground convex, some of the tightest tolerances of any knife while being glassy smooth, theres a lot of reasons they are still 2 different levels
Do the titanium ones really weigh over 8 oz? Everywhere I’ve looked says it’s in the 9 oz neighborhood

The knife looks very very good but the branding on the blade and espetially on the pivot is too much... :/
Yeah that’s an instant turn-off.. the pivot having that makes it look cheap even though it’s not. I’m pretty sure Amazon has been suggesting these to me for like a year now too lol. I search “folding pocket knife” at least once a day.

It was a Katsu knife that sucked me into this whole world of knives 2 years ago, my gateway knife if you will. This one looks enticing for sure
Ive always thought Rockstead were way too overpriced for what they are. Just not enough there to justify the price.
