LOL, Lex gets it right every time. It is totally White Stripes and a modern version of Zep. I have never once disagreed with her takes. She has insight.
It's really amazing - she also doesn't waste her time or energy trying to 'figure out what the song means' - she just has a natural feel for music and ALWAYS knows what the band is going for.
The "glitch" is a pretty simple technique, but done well produces a very cool result. Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) is well known for his usage.
On a two pickup guitar, you turn one up, the other all the way down. You play a note with the enabled pickup selected, then use the pickup selector switch to toggle between off and on sounds.
Glad you guys checked out Wolfmother, such a great band.
My buddy at work once said a new Wolfmother album was coming out. I had never heard of them. I listened to one of their songs for 30 seconds. In the next 30 seconds, I purchased the album "Victorious". Been listening ever since. Good stuff! Wolfmother is basically one guy that plays all the instruments and sings!
You're right to liken them to Zeppelin and the white stripes. They are of that same underground, raw, indie type sound.
To me that fits, but I always felt it was more like new Sabbath.
Wolfmother is f'n rad!! Their first album as a 3 piece, before the line up changes, was the coolest shit ever in '05. Albums after are great too, but the self titled = A+.
When I seen ACDC concert in Perth, Western Australia, wolfmother opened up for ACDC
That would have something to see
Wolfmother! Cool. This is a great track from the I think their debut album. It has elements of good 'ol classic rock like Led Zeppelin.
Lex has amazing perception. There is another band that gets overlooked when talking about Zep/Sabbath -era influences: Deep Purple. This song knows Deep Purple.
This whole album is a masterpiece I highly recommend checking out the rest of it!
Andrew Stockdale (Wolfmothers singer) and Slash recorded "By the sword" on the first album Slash album
Ive seem this live here in Australia, and it sounded just like the studio version, but bit more breathy of course.
Man, Australian rock was going through some cool things in the 2000s
I loved Silverchair and the vines early 2000's and now it's "tame impala, king gizzard and the lizard wizard and Amyl & the sniffers! Great Aussie music
The sound of the organ accompanying the guitar melodies is reminiscent of Deep Purple.
For me they are one of the best bands to debut in the last 20 years. I won the first album in a contest in 2004. I didn’t expect much but when I popped the cd in my truck after I left the party, all I thought was holy shit! I have bought every album since and through all the lineup changes and drama, I love all their releases. They’re helping to bring back sounds of the 70’s hard rock we haven’t heard in long long time. A few more bringing back some 70’s sound/groove in a big way is Dirty Honey, Crown Lands, Fuzz, and Elder to name a few. Rock n roll, especially real hard rock, is not going away anytime soon. More people just need to discover and promote these great hard rock bands.
0:16 LOVE IT WHEN LEX REALLY GETS INTO THE MUSIC! Cutest girl in the whole wide world!
Lucky Brad!!!
Wolfmother is, for me, only behind White Stripes for new rock bands of the last 20 years. It was a sound that I was missing for a long time. The retro classic guitar rock sound my ears drool over.
This entire album is great
Wolfmother is awesome, they have a lot of great songs. I heard someone describe his voice as being a mix of Robert Plant and Ozzy Osbourne
Yes, the best Aussie-Band, love them they got great tunes, good old rock, love it, thank you. Check out, Woman, White Unicorn, 10000 feet.
I love your channel because you listen to all the early 2000's alternative rock I grew up with! Great stuff
I had such high hopes for this band, but they faded into obscurity.. or at least left my radar.... I'm old but this is what Rock should sound like
Wolfmother 🤘 White Unicorn, Cosmic Egg, Woman🤘🤘🤘
+1 for White Unicorn
Wolfmother's first couple of albums are cool. If you want to hear some more great retro-rock/metal check out "Iron Swan" by The Sword.
Kuyss all you need
This band has an amazing catalogue. And they are awesome live, I've seen them heaps and would go back again and again. You should check out Mind's Eye next, for that 70's vibe.
Gr8 Aussie trio, raw
the wolfmother song that most have heard, but they got some really good songs from same album...check 'em out!
The whole album was fire🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of the best rock bands of the 2000's
This song is used on the DC Villians Lego game title screen and it's absolutely perfect. I used to love playing it on Rockband years ago, now I get to jam to it again with my 5 year old daughter. It's a timeless banger.
Lex's White Stripes comparison was pretty good!
Y'all should do Woman by Wolfmother if you haven't already. It's one of my favourites. The first time I heard it, I turned to my friend and said "Idk why, but I think this song just made me gay." Then, I came out a few months later. So, everytime he hears it, he jokingly talks about how it was the song that turned me gay.
Wolfmother: Apple Tree
Love the reactions guys!!
Lex is feeling that crazy flow of electricity. The thief in the night is always after the prey. Enjoyed this one. :)
I think this would be considered kind of Garage Rock. The Strokes, Hives, White Stripes, Jet, etc. The 2000s had some great music, or maybe I am just nostalgic because I grew up then.
Yeah, I had Jet and White Stripes in my head during this, too!
Didn't know I knew this song, but recognized it immediately. VERY cool sound! Are they still around?
Maybe they should hear a Strokes song, early Kings of Leon, too, especially for the southern vibe. Alt rock, Baby...still rocking!
Wolfmother-Woman!!! And then Priestess-Lay Down!! Both absolutely killer songs!!!
This album put my faith back in new rock coming out. Listen next to “Dimension” by then. 🎸
Such an underrated band from that time. Quite a handful of hits to choose from
Like literally every track from Wolfmother, the 1st album
If you ever go to a sporting event they play this song during the warmups at a lot of stadiums
I'm pretty sure Andrew Stockdale, the lead singer, is the only original member left.
Great band, great song. This used to play at all the football games. Unintentionally great stadium song. Hugely Influenced by Soundgarden
a mix of influences.. John Lord and Deep Purple.. White stripes... Zeppelin... Ozzie and Black Sabbath
Most played song at sporting events since Rock and Roll Part2. Mainly college football. Go Dawgs!
Yeah from the first album. Saw them live a few times back in the day. If Andrew Stockdale didn't keep firing band members they could have been ok. As it was the faded away. Used to do a great cover of communication breakdown by Led Zep live though.
I really enjoyed the old-school throwback rock of this time, the obvious Nlack Sabbath influences being my favourite. Check out How Heavy This Axe by The Sword. Or Prehistoric Dogs by Red Fang.
Great suggestions! Both great bands.
I was dating a girl back then that worked at a record store and told her I liked Wolf Mother. She was unimpressed and pointed to The Sword "Age of Winters" instead.
Both great tunes!!!
The Joker and Thief are the main characters in All Along the Watchtower? Nope. Two different characters altogether. Good tune!
Aussie guys! Now you have to do All along the watchtower Hendrix/Dylan. The reference to the joker and the thief
Caroline by Wolfmother is also a great song.
when i first heard this song i thought it was white striped. looove the vocals and the guiter/beat in this song is perfection.
I'm going to listen to more of Wolfmother, I seem to have let them fly by me.
I am not sure why this band is not bigger, they are absolutely awesome!
Takes me back to the old school Need for Speed games
My favorite band. Lead singer is Andrew Stockdale. Seen them twice in Boston. They are Australian. Andrew is always changing members. I've liked all his members. If you can play White Feather next.
A 10/10 debut album, paying homage to black sabbath and led zep. They sound amazing live too, shame they never lived up to the heights of that first album again, bar was set too damn high i suppose.
I love Love LOVE This song. I think Volbeat's song "the Devil's Bleeding Crown" is strangely similar in musical composition.. It's a must compare.
love the excited girl's smile
Hello from New England..WOLF MOTHER has a very throwback sound..They have a DEEP PURLE sound going on the the B-3 organ and a kind of stoner rock vibe..Btw could you guys do some stoner rock vids..I think you'd like the music because you like BLACK SABBATH when you did vids..Peace from the Northeast...
The lyrics of this song reference the Jimi Hendrix song All Along The Watchtower
Lexie is 100% correct, this song sounds EXACTLY like The White Stripes, from the guitar to the vocals... there is a very good reason Wolfmother would copy Jack White's sound, because he is AWESOME ! ! !
Need check out White Unicorn...so good!
She is definitely right, in that the singer sounds like Jack White.
I thought I knew this song, but I must've been thinking of Hendrix.
Ah yes the 'guaranteed speeding ticket' song
This reminds me of Kate Garroway dropping the 'Wolf Mother 'on Never Mind the Buzzcocks' just as everyone undeerestimates her as a breakfast show talking heAD!
seen them live a number of times in Melbourne. Even better live!
An even more Led Zeppeliny type of band "Greta Van Fleet" has a similar sound to Wolfmother. I didn't see anyone mention their song Woman which is my favorite.
This song will always slap!
I love Wolfmother this is a great song and they have many others you should get to glad you got to this one
Lex, you kill this! Bouncing off Brad as usual. Really like your interpretations and chemistry.
This a good modern rock group. Very heavy, fuzzy blues psychedelic rock. A little garage rock. Throwback to old Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin. True about White Stripes. See their videos, too. Trippy. Yall probably heard this song on Hangover movies. Also "Woman" is another good one to listen to from Wolfmother. Lex would probably like The Darkness and Greta Van Fleet, other modern rock groups that's throwback. 🕵
I have seen this band twice live , two times a party !!!
Lex is so quick to make comparisons I couldn't come up with for years. But I agree very white stripesish
Great Song
Great song to be your first
Fun Jam too
Saw the original line up when they first supported the album
Went by myself, met a ton of people, and basically rocked out
Another great band like this one is Dead Meadow
Tracks to check out by Dead Meadow? I’ll check them out.
@@JLSmith-zd3nk Ain't Got Nothing to Go Wrong
Indian Bones
Slippery Silver Door
Drifting Down Stream
Even if you don't, you'll feel stoned after jamming these guys. Not the greatest vocalist, but damn they rock
Also, one of the best heavy psych bands live
King Buffalo
Blaak Heat Shujaa
And Kyuss are very worthy
Shit, The Black Angels
Are also an amazing listen
I could do this for days
this song hits just right at an NHL game
Intro song for the 2013 Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team.
Their entire debut album is amazing. The song woman is great
Do you mean "Woman" ?
Think you're thinking of Danzig
Thank you yes I was thinking of woman not mother! Edited my comment
similar high pitch vocals as white stripes and drilling almost militaristic marching beat as seven nation army
This whole album is a collection of bangers. Not a weak track on it. He never reached those heights again, but there are other cool stuff too.
Can you check out a group called "Endeverafter". They were only around for 5 years and made a handful of songs but they never got the opportunity to make multiple albums. Sadly they've been disbanded and probably aren't going to reform ever again.
I can't believe u reached to this
U two have great taste
my best friend and his band played with these guys and they said they are awesome dudes
There is a rocking song from a popular Canadian band The Trews - Hold me in your arms. I'm sure you will like that one...classic rock!
Great GREAT BAND!
You're learning, though, Brad! When I first encountered your channel, you were pretty stiff and lost on the instrumentation stuff. But as I have watched your video's, your getting better at it. Keep punching away at it man! You'll get there. You just watched a lyric video and didn't read the lyrics...You focused on the music! Progress, man👍😁 Great reaction as usual 😊
Hi B&L., Lyrics: "Said the Joker to the Thief" is in a Bob Dylan song; "All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix.. ♠W.G.
I definitely hear the similarity with white stripes
It's been my ringtone since the day it came out
Great album but White Unicorn is the diamond of this record.
That’s a great song, but I lean to Love Train. That shit got me dancing hard.
@@JLSmith-zd3nk Great one too 👊 more smoothier.
This makes me want to watch The Hangover haha
I saw wolfmother open for queens of the stone age in 06 amazing night!
On one of my fav albums of all time
Also need to listen to: dimension, woman, apple tree, love train
If you seen the movie The Hangover then you've heard this song before.
Love this song! It's used as the Hype song for Nebraska men's basketball team.. As bad as they were, maybe another hype song is needed (LOL)... Lex's comparison to the White Stripes is spot on! Sure sounds like Jack White.
Lex's analysis and analogies are so on point that I am starting to think she has actually been into rock and metal from an early age.
Johnny Knoxville is gonna jump the entire lake... he’s amazing
You need to do "Woman" by Wolfmother!
Definitely reminds me of the white stripes
Mike Patton doesn't like Wolfmother but I'm ok with them. (Someone out there knows what I'm referring to, I know it. lol)
Agree with Lex here too. His voice does kind of remind me of Jack White, just a bit higher in tone.
Yeah he hated them playing while being interviewed at a festival. I prefer him tbh
RHCP don't like FNM, whatya gonna do?
@@justinatest9456 stick with faith no more
Best song you've watched by far thank you
Now that you mentioned it, parts of the song really sound like the Raconteurs 🤔
One of my favorite modern rock bands is the Raconteurs, please check out "Steady as she goes" one of Jack Whites' bands. Dual singers & guitarists. Thx.
