Great review! I have been eyeing this model for a while and the fact that reviews of it are still coming out, tells me I need to hop on the train! Glad they also offer halflinks now too. Keep up the fantastic content! Appreciate you putting out what you can while also working a big boy job :)
I enjoy doing it. It's a good little side-hobby outside of family and work. At first I enjoyed the watches but I've found that I actually enjoy the editing part the most. I like being able to communicate the way that I want in a way that resonates with me🍻
Very good review. Like you I had to get one myself just to silent the nagging voice, lol. After the legal action by IWC and having the images taken down, my burning curiosity forced me to order one without much description, hoping they will send this version. And maybe the last batch of this specific design that they will make. Got it last week! Just some references for collectors/addicts. Better than my Sinn, upper tier Prospex, and IWC Mk XVIII; equal to my Longines and Tudor’s; and below pieces that are above 5k. Some micros like CW, Kurono, and Ming are also near equal. Very versatile to wear. Another compliment, I was wondering about the “antimagnetic” on the back. Thank you for opening the case and showing the Faraday cage!
Very good insight, thanks. I was wondering why it was no longer available directly from IXDAO. I had to buy it from a third party seller on AliExpress. Maybe that's their work around to "selling it without selling it". Whatever the case is, I'm very impressed with what they've done. If they were to ever focus on making something original, they'd be hard to beat.
Nice response KC....... I have also just pulled the trigger on this for the same reason....Expect it to arrive in the next week hopefully and will be doing the same comparison against my more expensive watches... should be interesting and looking forward to getting it on my wrist.
@@darrwal-pv9sp I think it will be very disruptive in how you will perceive and accept legacy brands. Mine is grey, versatile and ab easy dumb reach. The extra half-links made the fit perfect. Let me know what you think:)
I own also the IXDAO Engineer with the black dial and can agree to the result of your report. When I made my order, I have decided for the PT5000. This clone from Hongkong Precision offers for my oppinion the same quality as the Sellita SW200, or even the ETA2824-2 and mine is running accurate with 1 1/2 seconds minus per day. All together a great watch and I love to wear it.
I see the case has a Faraday cage, but I'm curious if the cage is complete on the dial size. Like if you get the MOP version, is there a soft iron plate under the dial as well? If there is, I'm shocked at how thin they were able to make these watches.
Wow I'm actually astonished that it has the antimagnetic enclosure inside of it. I bought one a few months ago and have been wearing it. I got it for a pretty sweet discount at the time, just about 200 dollars (pt5000) shipping included. Best bang for buck in a watch I've ever seen. The only complaint I have is that the buttons to release the butterfly clasp opens with very little pressure. A couple times I've gone to the bathroom and go to open my fly and I've released the clasp. Luckily I have not dropped it in the toilet yet.
Excellent and thorough review, Dude! While Chinese sweat shop watches aren't my thing, I can certainly see the appeal of this one. Great specs for the money in a well finished package. Looking at my cost for an SW200, I don't think I could build something similar on my own bench for this price.
"Chinese watch" is such a broad term when explaining quality. You've got the sweatshops, then you've got the high end, and then you've got somewhere in the middle where the quality and efficiency of production is, in some ways, putting the Swiss market to shame. I predict that if that "somewhere in the middle" industry steps away from blatant copies and focuses on legitimately original designs, they will be unbeatable.
@@degenerateWA I 100% agree with you about the different levels of Chinese watches. However, I'm very familiar with the cost of components in the Chinese market. So for me, it's a simple math problem to work out the cost of components versus the final retail price to get an idea of the manufacturing cost. Once you figure out the manufacturing cost, you can then make a solid judgement on which level of the Chinese watch industry built it.
@@Msgt_Slim Very true. I've had brands reach out to sell their product through my channel; it was eye-opening to find out what the "actual" cost was compared to retail. I always knew there was a difference, I just didn't expect it to be that extreme. This is why I don't dwell on "value". Too many variables and its definition changes vastly from person to person. All I can control is: do i like it? can I afford it? if yes to both questions, then I'm fine with that.
I know the PT5000 is a ETA2824 clone, but so is the SW200 so realistically I don't think any normal person is going to notice a difference. The PT5000 is capable of COSC accuracy so it's more than capable.
Thank you for introducing me to the word 'kayfabe'🍻 And yes, very telling. Although I understand it. If I were a designer/business owner, I'd do the same thing. Regardless, IXDAO has made something incredible👌
@@bertholdbach4959 they're all the same to me. Whatever you want to call it is up to you; I won't take it personally. Objectively, based on the evidence available to me and compared to all of the watches I've experienced, this is a very well-made watch.

My wrist is around 7.75". Hard to say if it will fit; completely up to your preferences and comfort level. Personally I think it'll look fine but that's just me.
Mine stopped working after only 2 months of purchase and only 5 times of wrist time total. But even before it broke, the winding felt like grinding sandpaper and wheel balance rattled around on my arm like crazy. Now The watch is useless, official IXDAO web page refuses any responsibility and tells me to contact ali express store where I bought the watch directly from. And the Ali express page tells me to send it back to them on my own dime for repairs. Well. I just went to the post office and the postage fees are 100 plus dollars to get it back to china with tracking. Which, there is no way I am gonna pay. Long story short. Stay away, they are not dependable, and they will try not to deal with you whatsoever if they can. Now with 150K subscribers I feel tempted to make a video about these fools, however I am not a watch channel, it feels tempting for sure.
