As weird as these cars can be for maintenance & how sensitive they are to mods. I truly love working on my 08' LGT. It's something about these cars that make us go to this extent to make them work right. That's truly loving the car itself for all it is & you showed that perfectly! Fantastic story man I'm so happy for you & the Subi 💙
Me too, I'm in the same boat with a 98 coupe I found for pretty cheap with a big hole in the block. I'm soaking up all the info I can about the GC and GD chassis for my upcoming swap, great video!
Man I just bought a 96' GC8 WRX that I'm gonna import when I go back to the states from Japan. But man I really miss my Bug eye Impreza. She will always be my 1st love. I think I'll buy her again!! Lol
The LGT was an automatic. I also swapped over the LGT front subframe to accommodate the up pipe for the turbo including the steering rack and I also swapped over the LGT steering wheel and column.
I did the auto to manual conversion on sf forester back in October with the factory harness... wasn't fun but I got it done. Now I plan to do my 06 na impreza
Oscar Noeth those are actually the OEM option gauges. They usually stay up on the dash but can be relocated there. I’ve never seen anyone else do it but I tried it and they fit great there.
Hi buddy. I have a Subaru Baja automatic, but my transmission just end. So I wanna swap to manual. Can you explain to me what parts I really need? Sorry and thanks. You did a great job 👏👍👍👍👍😃
Your best bet is to find a Baja with a manual that has body damage or engine issues. Not 100% sure on what exactly you need to swap but a few things I know would be wiring harness (unless you want to splice your current one), ECU? you’ll have to add a clutch pedal/clutch cylinders, swap transmission crossmembers, remove TCM, might have to mess with some ignition wires, you’ll probably need axles, rear diff, driveshaft, and other miscellaneous things. If you’re somewhat mechanically inclined, then it’ll be pretty easy to swap. And there’s plenty of info nowadays on the web about these older cars.
Well I bought the donor car for about $400 and took most of the manual swap parts off of that so I saved a good chunk there not having to source everything individually. Total quick guess off the top of my head is around 7-8k for everything completed, I also did all the labor other than the paint/tuning so I saved there a bit too.
Question concerning the trans to gearbox swap. How did you get the vehicle to get out of limp mode? Because am sure the ECU was still looking for the transmission and not the gear box.
So I tore apart my Subaru Baja and I’ve been trying to get it back together. That was 8 months ago. I swapped an entire LGT harness into it. However, for the life of me I can’t seem to make heads or tails of the dash wiring. I’ve had no prior electrical or technical skills. Yet I’ve gotten throw a couple of n/a swaps since November 2019. COVID-19 gave me a lot of down time and I chose to learn/teach myself a lot about crs, specifically Subaru’s. I have the complete harness I took from a 2005 LGT. It’s in the Baja. I’ll have to do some retiring to some connectors. I have the LGT rear diff in and a LGT 5 speed manual transmission in. I’d just like to get the harness connected to the steering column and figure out the ac system and heating. After that I can pretty much do everything else. Thanks for your time.
qoq pop I’m assuming you’re using the LGT ECU? Subaru’s are kinda like LEGO’s, they’re really interchangeable. The wiring harness you put in from the LGT, was that out of a manual or auto? I’m not exactly sure how different the ignition/steering column is between the Baja and the LGT but I think you should be able to swap out all the wiring off the LGT column into the Baja column. The clips might not line up exactly but it should still be close enough to fit decently I assume. My swap was a lot easier because I went from an Impreza into another Impreza so it was really just a direct swap.
It’s really not that hard just takes time & patience. You have to fish the whole harness through the driver side access hole because it’s all one piece. Make sure you remove your HVAC box there in the center, you won’t be able to get the wiring across that bridge without removing it.
Did your speedometer end up working? I know most of the time the only issue is the speedometer wires don't match from the 4eat to manual. Any reason why you didn't build the 4eat?
I swapped the cluster. I didn’t want the PRNDL on the cluster, even if it would’ve worked. I’m not an auto guy, I like 3 pedals. I know you can build and tune the 4eat and could probably run better 1/4 mile times than the 5spd but that didn’t interest me.
No, the engines are practically the same from Manual and Automatic WRX’s. The automatics don’t have the timing belt “keepers”, but that’s not a big deal.

Make videos, I have an 08 LGT too🤘🏼
My 2008 Nissan Xterra has had zero issues and my 03 Forester had many but I love the Forester so much more than I do this car. I'm going back soon
@@mryork_ I'm on the 2nd engine replacement at this point & LGT still giving me shit... What we do for these freakin cars, what I'd tell you 😅😂😂
recently got an 04 wrx wagon that’s an auto. gonna manual swap her down the line. 2500 usd. love these cars
I absolutely love them bugeyes
I would have gotten a vanity plate that said XPRNDL or something. Nice video!
okay so im so proud for this man. this shits amazing he built it himself

This is really motivational
Seriously I’m over here like fuck it auto to manual swap 😂😭💯
Better than those negative who said u can't do this to that shit... Now I'm motivated
Awesome video man! I plan on building my own GC8 in January. Going to have to do a manual swap so wish me luck!

Love it! Thanks for sharing your story.
truly amazing. I have an Outback XT that's going through serious work at the shop and this is making me very happy and hopeful for my turbo Subaru

qoq pop yea looks like you’ll probably have to mess around with splicing some wiring to make that manual transmission and automatic wiring coordinate.
@@flatfour3935 hey bro do you have anymore parts for the subaru wrx 02-07?

Was it expensive I have a 07 na impreza and I wanna manual swap it
First! Awesome video, keep them coming. The Subaru looks clean👌🏼
Proud of you man.

awesome bro, planning on changing my gx to a wrx, too keen to start the project
making me wanna save my ver1 96 impreza
I really wanna learn how to do this myself bc I plan on buying a wrx for parts for my na impreza
torqueing with a wireless battery drill… hope she’s still together 🙏🏻
Good job bro, looks great!
i had mine since 2004, now im thinking about swapping it into auto.....lolol gettin old
If you haven't swapped to an auto I'd trade drivetrains with you!
Love the video!

nope, they just screw in perfectly where the storage cubby usually is.

How much in total did you have to spend? Not including the car cost. Just the parts and except with the exterior cost as well.

@@flatfour3935 thanks mate.
Hey can you tell me which wires had to be spliced for the manual swap? As far as the neutral lockout and the park lockout?

You couldn't just adapt the existing harness?
I am wondering if the throttle body is the same for manual and auto transmission?
Yea, they’re the same. Very minor differences on the actual engine/assembly itself.
did you have to add any adapter to the automaic engine fitting to the manual trans
Nope it bolts right up.
An engine from an automatic though won’t have timing belt guides on the timing cover. Not a big deal but worth mentioning it.
Is it necessary to do the whole dash harness when going from auto to manual?
No, I just found it easier since I had the donor car and I like OEM wires.
That's really cool how you manage to do that. How long did this project take you to do?
Couple months. Wasn’t working on it full time. Paint also took like 7 weeks or so.
Hey can you help me with mines!!? I’m doing pretty much the same thing!!
Do you really need to swap the whole harness to do the manual swap?
Definitely not, but it was easier for me because I had the donor car. No wire splicing hassle.
What website(s) did you buy the vehicles from?
how long did this take and how much did you put in?
About to do a 5 speed swap to my 06 wrx. About how hard/challenging is it to do the wiring harness that’s the only thing I’m nervous about?
It’s really not that hard just takes time & patience. You have to fish the whole harness through the driver side access hole because it’s all one piece. Make sure you remove your HVAC box there in the center, you won’t be able to get the wiring across that bridge without removing it.

Heyyyy whats wrong wit prnd🙃😩😂 ik I’m just a regular ☹️ soon will get a wide body hatch in manual lmao

I did because I had a donor car. It’s possible to splice the auto wiring to make it work but you have to know what you’re doing.
@@flatfour3935 okay true because other than that it doesn’t look to hard
