Seeing ogres in a matchup got me sitting up in my chair at work

Badass, matchup you don't see ever. Turin needs to show off how badass Mel Gibson is vs the Ogres. Just full Mel rush, no other units needed. Mel IS a unit! Turin needs to go full braveheart on his next SFT. WAY outside his comfort zone using WEs for a whole tournament!
I think Payback (1999) is a closer Mel reference here. Turin is a cult classic kinda guy.

I would expect wardancers with spears being better than the base variant in this matchup but maybe he was intending to use them mostly for clearing out gnoblars

i think the ogres need something like a grail relic that takes away all BvL from enemys around it.
Would it be a terrible idea to bring a fire belly against the wood elves because of his fire damage you could probably even bring an ogre tyrant as a Lord and have the fire belly deal with the walking trees. I think house cat needed to bring a fire belly here just to deal with the treemen and also you could easily use the vortex spell to massively punish the blobs his enemy made a few times

I think lore of fire isn't very good against single entities. And the firebelly isn't a good enough fighter to actually win in melee against treemen.
He can spam fireballs on them to whittle them down, but I don't think that's very cost/time efficient.
He could probably clear out dryads fairly well though.
@@dusty0559 I do wonder if gorgers could've worked against the spearmen?
@@Wanderer-nw2so Gorgers will win against the spearmen, but it would not be an efficient trade most of the time, as the Eternal Guard will deal quite a lot of damage back to them or the Gorgers will take heavy ranged fire while occupied by the spearmen.
Gorgers cost 1000, Eternal Guard with shield(the expensive version) is 550. I do think they are better than Maneaters though. Having Vanguard, Stalk, Unbreakable and Frenzy is all very good, and they hit hard against most targets.
Burning Head against lightly armoured WE infantry does sound better than Trollguts, considering how much more the WE rely on their spear units in this matchup than Ogres do on Trollguts healing their cavalry.
Speaking of Ogre Leadership, I think one of their minor issues is the Ogre Bulls leadership of 60. It does not sound low, but considering how much damage they take when targeted, they often take huge leadership penalties(damage dealt within the last 4, 10 and 60 seconds) and route before they deal enough damage.
Ogre bulls are pretty cheap at 550 gold for a Monstrous Infantry with 40 charge bonus. I think its fair that they only have 60 leadership
@@rezada2773 Cheap for monstrous infantry, sure, but they hardly have a choice in the matter. The next option they have with better Leadership and Armour is the Ironguts at 1100 gold.
If you want something that does not immediately route when taking missile fire, while staying somewhat cheap, you want the Ogrebulls Ironfist. That is 650. And even they tend to route around 50% health after just 25 seconds of melee combat. Losing that much health, is what it is, but also routing from it so easily, is problematic, when it is the(rather expensive) core of your frontline.
Also, be careful not to overrate the charge bonus. They are a fairly low entity unit(not even half of a cavalry unit), so the amount of damage they get out of the charge is limited, and each loss have a heavy impact on their performance.
I wanna see a Kharibdyss (terror + Abyssal Howl) + Doom & Darkness fear combo by Dark Elves against Ogres.
That end to the battle was pretty poor by housecat as was their initial micro. Wonder if they were distracted or something.
Wonder why the wood elf player opted to bring in the regular wardancers when they already had the dryads for killing gnoblars. Surely the asrai spear wardancers are a better choice against ogres if you want to bring wardancers?

Quick question, I am not a knife ear lover so I have not played much elves of any type in WH3 (I did do the Imrik "tame" Miao Ying campaign for the meme😏), but what has changed in the meta/stats to my Wild Riders not as good? I remember in WH2 when I did the sisters campaign and the mp when that DLC came out that while they were still definitely a little to expensive(not saying there were great basically), but they combined well with Great Stag Knights one for speed and one for mass. Just genuinely wondering what has changed on that front as I don't have enough time to play a lot of WH3 mp right now.
Most heavy cav got speed buffs (brettonia knights move at 84 speed now). Wild riders simply don't have the speed advantage anymore

The ogres fed that spear blob mid so much.
WE got the ideal engagement on more of the points it seems. Wardancers and dryads vs gnoblars and spears vs big boys. And got outmaneuvered by the cav and the archers. Good fight by both though, a real vicious cockfight!
@@Mikester88 which is why I am shocked house cat never brought a fire belly into the mix when I think especially for wood elves is a devastating magic to go up against and especially with the treemen being used a lot here it would certainly make it a lot harder to blob up and punish their archers too.
@@Wanderer-nw2so agreed, but hindsight is 20/20. People make mistakes, maybe lose focus or maybe he's trying something out.
Why not use the Asray spears? and the Ror asray spear? Why the anti infantry wardancer?
I'm curious why the WE player brought normal wardancers instead of the spear variant.
Against Ogres I think they could have rolled them.
Probably a mix of cost(100 cheaper) and having access to that -24 melee attack/+24 melee defense ability, which would allow them to hold longer in a prolonged fight. They would also be able to wipe out Gnoblars really fast, even compared to Dryads.

Hoghly doubt, warhammer is near the end of its life and Ogres aren’t a top priority for CA. Like if rumers are correct the next dlc is 100% Cathay.

@@TheeChasteDon’t ask me that, I don’t work at CA. But from what I heard the next dlc or the one after us going to be a 100% Cathay, with the monkey king and all that. They even have Ogres but again it is for Cathay. If you want to know more go check LegendofTotalWar leak video.

Honestly surprised there's no UI element projecting who reaches 1500 points first with the current gamestate. Such a weird burden of knowledge to place on the players on top of all the micro needed.

Love seeing Ogres but it gets super tiring playing them when all of your units just trade like shit into their most defensive units. Really makes your melee faction feel worthless and makes late campaign feel terrible against most races.
I really don't get why ogre tyrants cant ride any of the rhinos or mournfangs
