    I really appreciate you talking about how a lot of people couldn't evacuate even if they wanted to. So many people are ignorant and think its as easy as packing up and going. There's food, medical equipment, transportation, pets, medicine, etc that would have to be brought with as well.

    • @kellycosnowski8728
      @kellycosnowski8728 2 года назад +1

      I do agree, where could a lot of people go? Yes some or most have family out of state, but by the time everyone got out of the danger zone it would been too late. Traffic gets way too backed up, the storm changes directions at anytime. So probably best to stay where you are or try to get to a shelter/hotel in the area. Yes hurricanes are and can be scary if you're not sure what to do or never been in one.

      I live in PR and we have been through hurricane irma, maria and fiona and a bad storm. Here there's shelters open for everyone that needs it even if you have to take pets etc and they give u food etc they should do that over there cuz hurricanes are very serious and thank God they are ok and save but there's times houses don't hold up.

    I’m from Fort Myers, totally agree with you Heather about evacuations. People who don’t live in Florida don’t understand what its like trying to drive out of the state during evacuations. And yes we didn’t know we’d get a direct hit until the day of, they kept saying it would be more north and even the timing of when they said it would hit was off, it sped up at the last minute. And if you go to an emergency shelter in your town and have a pet, you have to keep your pet crated the whole time which some people don’t even have crates for their pets and you have to bring your vaccination paperwork for your pets, otherwise they won’t let you bring them in, so some people can’t go to those shelters unless they leave their pets at home which is horrible! I would rather stay and risk my life than leave my pets behind.

    I went through Harvey here in Houston a few years back and lost everything! So I understand exactly why y’all didn’t evacuate. When water started coming inside our house we then made the decision to pack what we could carry on us and walk to a family members house around the corner. In chest deep waters. I will NEVER forget that in my life! My prayers are with everyone affected by Ian! Decisions aren’t easy to make especially when Mother Nature is unpredictable.I’m happy y’all are safe!

    It’s so crazy, I saw so many people asking Floridians ‘why didn’t you evacuate?’. Not everyone has the money, or transportation to do so. Also some people don’t even have a place to go, so many hotels were booked.

    For us everyone flocked to the Superdome….the roof ripped off and it flooded. Storms are so unpredictable. Last year we went through hurricane Ida, we stayed, had minor damage, 6 days no power. Had to drive and hour 45 minutes to Mississippi to get gas, get food. Sat in traffic on the interstate just to get there. No storm is the same. Glad y’all are safe, and in the grand scheme of things, y’all have minor damage. Prayers for Florida

    I remember Hurrican Katrina were they said it was not going to hit the part of South Florida where I lived and it was not supposed to be a CAT 5. That storm changed direction and speed at the last moment. It was devastating and too late to go anywhere at that point. No power and water for two weeks and houses destroyed. People who have never experienced a hurricane don't understand how difficult it is to evacuate when the storm can change directions and speed at any point. Glad you all safe and pray those affected.

    I live in South Texas, hurricane Ian was so destructive that our beaches are closed because the water was up to our dunes. With Florida you only have north or south to go, in Texas at least we can go more inland. People who don’t live in a hurricane state, will not understand a hurricane. Good Job fighting for others Heather! I stand with you!

    Its always easier for people to criticise and judge when they are not walking in your shoes. No one has to justify their reasons for staying put or leaving. The main thing is your safe. Also everyone copes differently with different situations, some people will be overwhelmed, be more distressed whereas others will humour themselves through it because under the surface they maybe anxious. Gosh these days you cant be anything that is not perceived by those individuals to be right!
    Thinking of everyone who suffered loss of life or homes in the path of Hurricane Ian, love and thoughts with you all xo

    I live in south cape. Very tip of south cape. Have yet to get power. We are ripped apart, homes down and swept away. And she is right, every state has something go wrong. Hurricanes is florida. Hurricanes have a mind of their own. We do not know where it is going until it is at our door. We flooded 9 feet storm surge with 195 mile an hour winds. We sat on the bathroom floor for twelve hours with no clue if we were even out of the storm. Barely could even call my uncle in indiana for him to tell us where and when it would stop. No power. Cold showers. All fast easy foods, cereal most nights. My life has been torn apart in a day and all you can do it wait it out. No school, no work, no life. Stores close at five and curfew is 6. The city is dark, cold, and empty feeling. My hometown of 20 years is gone and will never be the same. Streets are flooded with down power lines and trees and even boats. Cape coral and sanibel are suffering right now, and if anybody can help we would greatly appreciate it. Food, water, shelters, anything we could use. I sat in line yesterday for gas for 11 hours. On E. Nobody understands it until you are in it. So I’m tired of being and hearing we should have evacuated. We were boarding up our house a day before when it shifted. Lmk if you can pack up your entire house. Lanai, and garage as well as drive ten to anywhere hours north. It’s impossible. All I see and hear is helicopters, sirens, and boats allover everywhere. And it is completely devastating. Please help in every way you can. Food, water, etc even donating. Florida could rlly use some help right now

    2 weeks is too far out to judge. I 100% agree with you. We have 24-72 hours typically. We were set for a direct hit then hurricane paused on the Bahamas then started towards us then a sudden 90 degree turn up the east coast. We hardly felt it. This one we were supposed to only get tropical impact. Nope we had the eye go right over us. This storm was so massive everywhere was effected and still effected by the rising water. Clearly they have not lived through evacuating. It is a night mare. We evacuated going just 3 half hours north. On the road for 20hrs with 2 babies in the car. People were crazy ran me off the road with the babies and pets in the car. This is Texas. Did not hit our area it was for nothing. Luckily we had relatives we could stay with. But it is still expensive.

    It definitely won’t be the same. I rode out hurricane Michael and it looked like a bomb went off. It’s been 4 years and I still don’t recognize things and it’s my home town. But you build stronger and every one learns for the next time. It also brings a community together in ways you would never imagine. The gas also does not get better for about a month or two and same with stores.

    I don’t understand why ppl get so upset about the jokes. Yes what happened is devastating, tragic, and traumatic. I send prayers to everyone in Florida. But there is nothing wrong with joking about the situation you are facing. Why is it so wrong to try and have a little positivity in your day instead of constantly focusing on the negative? If you can find something positive in that negative then you’re amazing!! Some ppl have to joke to cope!! I hope all is well for your family, you’re keeping safe, and you can continue to find positivity in your days despite the terrible things you have to endure.
