@WylocksArmory Might try putting hot glue along the supports facing the open end of the box, then close the box and tape it shut. Open the other end by cutting drawer holes with a razor blade leaving the top(or bottom) of the hole uncut to act like a hinge.
As someone that's watched a *lot* of Adam Savage Tested, there's a healthy love and respect for boxes and storage solutions. I think he often says that's just as important as the item it's holding. It's just super important to the work flow.

Sometimes, you build something like this which isn't sexy or exciting... but the amount of times it'll come in SO useful is incredible!
Sometimes, functional but useful is best.
Simple content is not bad content. As long as you do as you did here and not try to stretch 6 minutes of content into 12 minutes. Short and sweet and helpful. Nice job.

Never underestimate the usefulness of a cardboard box! In earlier years, when money was really tight, that is how I made my dungeon tiles. And yes, a second one to hold and transport them. I do love the idea of adding shelves for organization!
Solutions like this are great. I craft in my basement but play games in my living room. I have been hiding my terrain behind a couch. Having a box like this - especially if it is decked out in a D&D design - would be useful and get the players excited to see what's coming out of "the magic box" or some other name like that. :D
Just a solid idea. Sometimes we get so wrapped in the solution that we forget to find a way to make a solution usable.
Sometimes "just a cardboard box" is a lifesaver!
Honestly, it didn't even occur to me that this might be a "filler episode" till the stinger at the end because I never know how to transport terrain to the gaming table if it's in a store or another house or something, and this is a killer idea that I'm embarrassed I didn't think about!
My first instinct for decoration is to look for some contact paper that speaks to you! You can get it with wood grain, marble texture, or just about anything else, and it would probably take paint or other decoration pretty well, depending on the finish.
Or get some 1/8th" thick nicer grain of plywood... Would add a fair amount of weight, but that's a good thing IMO, would make the box look sweet and be much tougher/resistant to mishaps.
Anyone who said "he just created a whole video about a cardboard box" doesn't understand how valuable simple content is. Things like this seed ideas and help use find simple ways to make our lives better. I do something similar but still wanted to see your approach to get ideas of little ways I can improve.

Creating your own custom storage has always been a part of the hobby. This was a great video.
I love it when someone shows something this simple. I'm going to complicate it a bit more, but not much. A carry handle on the top and maybe full drawers for each section. Seriously, this is the best way to transport terrain I've seen yet. Thanks!!!
I love the matter-of-fact presentation and managing the process of terrain is just as important to smoothly running the game as anything else.

Pretty cool use of a cardboard box though. I mostly play online, but when I have played IRL, I’ve used a similar approach. I had all the tiles and scatter for each area grouped together, but rather than in a box, they were just laid out under the over hanging table cloth next to me.
This is a great system for dungeon tiles. Most of our terrain is outdoor scatter, and we have a ton of it. When the DM calls for initiative, we all cooperate to lay out terrain for the encounter, and often we players just put stuff wherever we like, and the DM adjusts if needed. Letting everyone pitch in to set up the battlefield mitigates the problem of wasted time. Our combats are long and complicated, our battlefields are big and complicated, and we all like it that way.

Dude... storage and efficiency, it's the force that drives all Crafting. Dig into it!
Very valid concept. I do the same for demos with the tiles I use for it; have them stacked last to first in the box put together then pull as they hit rooms. Wyloch's concept does a better job of maintaining 'fog of war'.

Love that you can pull out only one room at a time so the players don't know what's beyond the door/hall until they get there.
Storage and secrecy are key things to keep in mind as a crafting GM. It's fun to surprise the players with a miniature or piece of terrain. If you need to hide everything in a toaster box, then definitely hide everything in a toaster box. Now I wonder if I have an appliance box to do this with. 😁
Oh I can not wait to see what you do with the box! I LOOOVE those "not important" stuff. Like make DM screen look cool not ONLY practical.
This is great for a more linear style dungeon crawl. I organize my stuff by type: I have a tray for dungeon scatter, town/tavern scatter, hidden stuff you'd only find if you searched successfully (hidden doors, treasure, etc.), and so on.
Thanks for this idea. I DM at one of the players homes, and bringing my stuff was always a hassle. Not in the least because i pride myself in displaying a decently immersive table (lots of garbage and models).
I took your advice to build a Staging box. I didn't take a cardboard box, but a wooden case. I attached a handle (for carrying) and a latch to keep it shut.
The interior was build similar to yours, with simple shelves (although made from thin MDF-board). And i chose to make some simple drawers, instead of cardboard slides. A few coats of paint to make it look nice.
I like the result. Its a bit heavy when stocked. But i guess the car won't mind carrying it for me. Next monday i'll be putting it to the test.

Back when I was still making stuff actively, I built out a small set of your locking 1.25" scale tiles, and since I worked at a hospital IT department at that time, I had access to boxes of all sorts. I wound up using a box for a desk phone. Perfect height for the 2.5" tiles, and it holds like four or five rows plus leftover space for decor. Not prime for staging unless you stage by slots, but you'll still have to set stuff of in the moment, rather than pull out rooms wholesale from the box.
That really solved a problem I had with games like d&d "Let yourself be surprised....No, players, we're definitely not going into this dungeon I built today." Sometimes simpler is better. Thank you for the inspiration. greetings from Germany
I love boxes!!! There is nothing wrong with a good box storage solution. I DM away from home, and everything needs to be portable for me, so I'm not entirely sure that this would work for me... that said, it has given me some ideas!!
This is one of those underrated and very useful crafts that I like to think of as "practicool".
I wouldn't say desperate for content. This is a side not often seen in tabletop crafting videos. I think you're the only one I've seen (or remember) dedicate a video or two on how to store or transport your crafts. I've made a storage box based on the video you made years back, and I definitely will make one like this. This makes things much easier than laying everything out on a separate table and covering them with paper sheets. xD

I use an Essex Rolling Cart that I bought on sale from Michaels (since I mostly play at home). The mixture of shelves and open space I filled with similar storage spaces means I can roll up to the table with my laptop on top to control Syrinscape/look stuff up, and stage everything underneath.
If you are desperate for content, this was great. This gave me some great ideas for storing all my Joe McCullough games.

I have a cheap shelving unit behind my chair that works like this on steroids. It was a "some assembly required" pine type unit. I bought two and doubled the number of shelves on one. Still, great reminder to be describing what is in the room as I'm setting it up. Also, because I have the space, my pre-sets have a tendency to be bigger. I need to reduce a little. Thanks!

I've been looking for a good way to transport my Warhammer figures without having to spend a bunch on supplies. I think using this and cutting out a hole the size of the figures base should work well. Thanks Wyloch!

This is a fantastic idea, extremely well executed, that I will be stealing - I usually lay my dungeon rooms out on a table in another room, and have to constantly chase my players away from accidentally seeing exactly what they're getting themselves into as they get up to use the bathroom or whatever lol THIS IS MUCH BETTER
4. I just wanted you to know, that you have Pavlov'd me. Every time I'm anywhere with my wife, and someone says anything about a good selection/great selection, I instinctively and without warning go "including all True Tiles lines"

Last time I was DMing I was using flat terrain for a dungeon. So I did a similar thing using labelled file folders.
As for what to decorate the box, I suggest simply painting it like your wooden crates. Its your mystery box after all.

this is a great idea to speed up the set up times! Don't know if its been been said before, but I might add a drawn diagram of the room/map on the card/tray and maybe even the "boxed description" to read off of as I'm setting it up.

DId I miss an episode where Wyloch describes how he makes little hanging loops for his brushes, so they can hang to dry and nor have to sit point down (thus mushing the points) or point up (thus letting liquid pool inside the ferrule, ruining the shape)? I have a new "hack" to follow up on now. Brilliant.

Huh.....I have a much larger cardboard box beside the table, that I use to hold the computer (and secondary monitor) for my game table's digital display. Now I am thinking that I can make it do double duty, Thanks for the inspiration, dude!
I did more or less the same. In my case I built a modular structure using MDF in which I inserted trays made of foamcore, with 3D-printed PLA handles. In the end I have 6 "short" trays, 8 "medium" trays and 2 "tall" ones. It's pretty handy for storing all the parts, well divided and easy to grab
Well now I want to make one of these for each dungeon! Brilliantly elegant.
Suggestion: add a small tab at the front edge of your pull out. Easier to get out that way. Otherwise, spot on!

This is great. I use a lot of varied terrain sources and I feel like I'm always scrambling to put it together while trying to keep it hidden. I have a wooden wine crate that I think might work great for this!
Decorating the exterior:
Not sure if this would be a problem when Youtubing sessions; but I like to use photocopied maps as wallpapering cover on my storage boxes and pen holders from cans.
I would add a small lip on the back of the tray. When you pull it out it ensures nothing stays in the cubby
