wow i still can’t believe that those arial shots aren’t really arial shots and just small sand dunes. It was very creative and done very well. So convincing that I still can watch it knowing that it’s not arial.. but still looks like a massive canyon, and a massive cliff. Just incredible.
Wow Luke! The fact that you are sharing 60 minutes of excellent tutorial FOR FREE is absolutly incridble! Paying for this would be fine since the amount of information and tips shared can be used forever and can inspire many. This is mindblowingly kind of you and your team, thank you!!
I just wanted to give people a look at what they can expect if we decide to do this again. I love sharing but it has to be worth the effort (this was a lot of effort).
This was also a paid thing for a very long time. Making it public was overdue.
this makes me feel like I can actually achieve all of the things I convinced myself I couldn't do. Thank you.
Wow this was unexpectedly long episode. But so good
Only few will know this video's worth but who does he/she knows it's a pure gold mine
Thank you so much for sharing!
thank you for sharing... i have not seen a BTS tutorial like this ... very comprehensive - you have motivated me to go out and create... very inspiring.
Thank you, this is kind of our blue print going forward.
One of the most comprehensive tutorial I've seen in a while. So good! The quality of the content is mind blowing. Really inspired me to stop making excuses and be creative with the least amount of gears and assets. Thank you so much!
This is absolutely one of my favorite things on RUclips.
This channel is so stupidly underrated. Also, why aren't these guys producing high level content for studios?
Thank you, we do produce some stuff for other people quite a bit :)
Outrageously kind of you to post this extended tutorial. It's pretty cool to see how talented you are on such a wide range of programs. Great ideas for working on a low budget. Thanks for inspiration!
THIS WAS AWESOME!!!! Thanks so much for this inspiring behind the scenes look.
INCREDIBLE video! Very informative. Please make more of this kind of videos! I love watching behind the scenes / making of videos and learning new techniques and get inside the creative mind of more filmmakers
Thank you for taking the time to make videos like these!
HEY. Oregonian here, always good to see my homestate represented in art. well done.
"You're about to get out where not man have ever set foot before."
"Cool!"
Best dialog ever xD
What I say - I want this wonderful world to continue to improve throughout the end of time.
What my alter ego secretly desires - for reality to suddenly change into some sort of science fiction.
What I believe - Something world changing has yet to come.
(this damn video has been in my recommendations for too long.)
wow! that's awesome, clearly a proof of the new era of filmmaking! one person can make it all.
and the music is astonishing!
Lots of great info in this! I loved how you were hesitant about the VFX but took the plunge anyway. That salt flat is amazing! I'd love to check it one day when I ever get down to Oregon.
Love behind the scenes stuff!... This was great! Thanks!
WOW. Just WOW! I'm a total beginner at this filmmaking thing. I've created a few shorts, but i've definitely learned a lot here. This was amazing!
Very interesting and useful, far too many tutorials get bogged down in irrelevant detail whereas this really just points the way for people to do their own thing and covers so much ground without getting boring.
OMG it's insane how talented u guys r to handle everything internally! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely amazing! It's really awesome and creative the way you used the sand to create the aerial shots.
Thank you so much for taking your time and sharing. This is great!
This is super inspirational! A good reminder that anything can be done with the right mindset
Thank you for your work and sharing them!!
Excellent! Thanks for the depth you go into and the moments you shared. Real great stuff here. :)
it was so cool to see your workflow. the many positions you undertake in your productions is impressive. I love the fact that you prove it doesn't take a full production team to create inspiring imagery. Thank you for your hard work and sharing.!
Man, this is some cool stuff, that you explain so well. I am already a fan! Thanks for your great tutorial; much appreciated!
It's the best approach to sci-fi film making.
those shots of the alien landscape using just sand was genius.
simply amazing, incredible helpful resource.
Great behind the scenes mate. Really enjoyed how to explained the entire create process and your workflow. Would be awesome to watch a follow up episode where you talk about budget, your crew, a bit more on your equipment, etc.
This is awesome! I learned so much. Thank you taking the time to do this
This is amazing. Thanks for the tips and resources.
"No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking." (Voltaire). You guys are talent, intelligence, and initiative rolled into one. No problems, only solutions. Nice work.
John Deggendorf Thank you John!
This is just awe inspiring! Thank you for sharing this wealth of knowledge.
What an absolutely beautiful tutorial. This was so in depth it felt as if I was in the room with you as this was all coming together! I cannot tell you how beneficial this was to me not only from a technical (almost hands on experience) kind of way... but also from a motivational (I can do this too) kind of way. This was invaluable. Thanks so much, keep up the good work! I've shared this with all of my filmmaking colleagues and friends.
Ethan Tradup Thanks and hope this gives you reason to tune into future ones :)

Groovy as hell. I'm way too new to understand many of the tools, but I still learned a lot. I'm sure I'll come back for more once i'm more familiar with After Effects. Thank you for your time, and your art, and I hope we get to see the remaining episodes eventually
I'm really lucky to have stumbled upon this, truly brilliant insight. Thank you.
Dear god this video is amazing. Such a great view into the entire process.
This is more a sort of "making of" than a turorial. But very interesting, thanks.

Thank you so much for sharing all of this, I know how timeconsuming a project like this is and to also do such a comprehensive BTS along with it.. Kudos man. Thank you. Can't wait to see more episodes!
Thank you, it's awesome to have Marika documenting all of it like this.

Thanks for sharing! You made amazing looking shots with great taste. There's no plugin for that!
Thanks man.
Wow, the aerial desert shot was done like that? Cool.
great video!!!
I am lost for words on this. You have produced a GREAT BTS here. And to top it off, you seem really humble about it. There are not a lot of people who like to let their creative process out of the bag, and I commend you on this. I look forward to actually watching the Beacon now...lol. Thanks again...
Shane Rushby Thanks for the kind words.
My pleasure
MAN!!!Thanks!!!!!Love you!!
I enjoyed this I have no plans wanting to make a Sci-Fi film (who knows it might change) but seeing some of your techniques inspires me a lot. :)
Very cool behind-the-scenes. That's some seat of the pants grading, without scopes or anything. I guess no Lumetri tools in AE at the time? Your grade for the scene you featured looks a bit like old Technicolor 3 strip, I dig it. Your work over-all is awesome. That look of the "non cliffs" is epic.
Chosen Idea Yeah, this was 2014 ish so not a lot of that in Adobe yet.
Haha! I live about 2 minutes from that Fred Meyer you guys shot at. I would have never though to use the sand as an alien world.
OMG I'VE BEEN TO THOSE DUNES
very impressive guys!
This video should have a lot more views! A very interesting video. Great job.
Scott Waldron I don't think narrative stuff like this is super popular in RUclips right now. Maybe it will make a comeback
great job
parabens, muito muito bom.
Great!
